FISHING REPORT – 31-05-2012
COOL CONDITIONS FOR BASS ELECTRIC AT CRESSBROOK
29 anglers braved the chilly but calm conditions at
Cressbrook Dam for the 2nd Bass Electric to be held there this year. 14 anglers
presented bass to be weighed but blitzing the field was Phil Fitzgerald with
his 2/2 2.36kg bag. Phil also took home the big bass title with a healthy
1.29kg bass. Phil said that his fish did not come until 12 midday when he had a
10 minute window where he boated his 2 bass. Phil was using a 3/8oz Evergreen
Little Max blade. Phil caught his bass on a point in the main basin opposite
the boat ramp. 2nd place went to David West with 2/2 1.88kg bag. David also
caught his bag at 12 midday but was up the Bull Creek arm of the damp. David
said that he was sitting in about 30 foot of water and around midday he saw
some fish come through on his sounder and again had about a 10 minute window
where he caught his 2 keepers. Shaun Falkenhagen placed 3rd overall. Shaun also
fished the Bull Creek arm of the dam and was using a Jackall Ice Jig. Shaun
caught 5 legals and 4 undersized bass for the morning but said that he caught his
2 biggest bass at 11.30am. By all reports 11.30 to 12 midday was the best time
for the bass.
It was good to see that there were some good fish
caught and the future is looking good for Cressbrook. The next Bass electric at
Cressbrook, will be held in September. The fishing should be awesome.
BASSIN SERIES HEADS TO SOMERSET THIS WEEKEND
The Bassin Teams Challenge heads to Somerset Dam for
the second Queensland round this weekend, these tournaments provide you with
the chance to get a feel for competition fishing, anglers competing against
each other, the clock and the bass. Tournament fishing is exciting and a great
way to meet new people. They are a very social event, where families can fish
together, a couple of mates can have a
go, or a fishing club can use it as part of their event calendar, set up their
marques, flags etc and just have a great weekend. These events have a social
feel about them, but will also cater for the needs of the more seasoned
tournament angler, with lots of cash & great prizes on offer. I have fished
quite a lot of these tournaments since they started, and they are always a very
enjoyable weekend, for more information check out their website at www.bassintournaments.com.au.
YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby Dam has again
produced a few Yellowbelly around the rock wall, with frozen Saltwater Yabbies
and live Shrimp landing the most fish. Bjelke Peterson dam has seen some nice Yellowbelly
landed in the timbered area of the dam, using light brown Spinnerbaits and hard
bodies. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has again produced a few Yellowbelly
on frozen saltwater yabbies and prawns while spinnerbaits have worked quite
well in the town reaches. Glenlyon Dam has gone a bit quiet, with a few Cod
about in deeper water and not much to report as far as Yellowbelly go. Coolmunda
has produced a few Yellowbelly on frozen Prawns and Saltwater Yabbies and it’s
worth trolling dark coloured, deep diving lures for Cod. And Leslie Dam, has
seen a few Yellowbelly and Silver Perch being caught in the shallows, mainly on
frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms
.
GOLD COAST AND TWEED
Offshore
fishing has been a bit quiet over the past week, there was a few big Spanish
Mackerel caught trolling and drift baiting, while the 36’s has produced a
collection of Snapper and Cobia. At the Tweed, inshore fishing has
settled a bit also, with a few Tailor caught around the river mouth, using
Halco Twisties and there has been the odd Whiting landed around the shallow
sand bars, using live saltwater yabbies and sandworms, while up around
Southport the Seaway produced small Jewies and Chopper Tailor, quality Flathead
on plastics around the Pin, a few Bream and Sand Crabs throughout the Broadwater
and the bar entrance at the Pin has seen some big meter plus Jewies landed on a
mixture of soft plastics and live bait.
SUNSHINE COAST
Very
quiet offshore, due to rough conditions, however there were a few Snapper and
Sweetlip caught on the closer reefs. Inshore fishing has been a bit quiet as
well with small numbers of Whiting and Bream in the Maroochy and Noosa River’s,
a few Flathead on plastics in the passage at Caloundra, some small Jewies just
outside Bells Creek and there’s been some Trevelly and Tailor throughout the
Noosa River as well.
