FISHING REPORT – 17-05-2012
BASS
Some reasonable
catches of Bass coming out of Cressbrook Dam at the moment, soft plastics seem
to be producing the most fish, while the points in the main basin and over towards
Deer Island, as well as parts of the Bull Creek arm of the dam have been the
pick of the spots. At Boondooma Dam, try the edges for bass, using soft
plastics and smaller blades, and the Stuart and Boyne arms have been producing
some Bass in the deeper water, mainly on plastics and trolled deep diving lures.
Bjelke Peterson dam has produced a few Bass over the past week, the best
methods have been, casting Spinnerbaits to the edges and trolling hard bodies
in the deeper water. Somerset has been a bit quiet over the last week or so,
even finding fish has been a bit of a battle, but if you do find any, try
targeting the fish with soft plastics and blades.
YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby Dam has again
produced a few Yellowbelly, frozen Saltwater Yabbies and live Shrimp have
landed the most fish, while there has been the odd one landed on trolled lures.
In Boondooma Dam, the Yellowbelly have settled down with the cooler
weather coming in, however the timbered areas of the Stuart and Boyne arms of
the dam have produced a few fish on live bait . The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has produced some
quality Cod between the 50 and 70lb mark, Yellowbelly are still a bit quiet,
but there has been some big Silver Perch
about, with bait proving to be the most successful. Still a few Yellowbelly coming
out of the Dumeresq River, around Texas, but there has been a few undersize
amongst them. The Cod fishing has quietened a little, compared to the last few
weeks. Bait fishing has proven to be the most popular this week at Glenlyon
Dam, the fish have moved into a bit deeper water, where Yellowbelly and Silver
Perch have been the prominent species, while there have been a few smaller Cod
in amongst them. Coolmunda has gone a bit quiet as well, with a few Yellowbelly
taking live Shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies. And Leslie Dam, has seen a few
Yellowbelly being caught around the timber on frozen saltwater yabbies and live
worms, it’s also worth trolling Spinnerbaits, deep past the trees, as there has
been a few Cod showing up around them
.
GOLD COAST AND TWEED
Offshore
fishing has seen some quality Snapper and Yellowtail Kingies at Fidos Reef, the
18’s have produced a few Squire and Cobia, while the wider reefs have seen some
quality Tuna landed. At the Tweed, inshore fishing has produced big
numbers of Chopper Tailor off the beaches, early morning, on the run in tide,
quality Bream around the river mouth and some nice Flathead in the upper
reaches, while up around Southport the Seaway is producing Tailor and Trevelly
on the run in tide, quality Flathead around the Broadwater and Kalinga and Gold
Banks, Bream on soft plastics, casting around jetties and there has been quite
a lot of Squid about as well.
SUNSHINE COAST
Some
nice Cobia and some schools of medium sized Tuna out wide, while there are
still good numbers of Snapper, Pearl Perch and Sweetlip on the closer reefs. Inshore
fishing has again produced plenty of good size Flathead and Bream around the
Boardwalk at Caloundra, Flathead also around the edges of sand flats in the
Maroochy and Noosa Rivers, the Noosa River has also seen good numbers of Jewies
and some big Bream off the rock walls at the river entrance, the Maroochy River
has seen good numbers of Chopper Tailor and it’s worth a try in the canals for
a few smaller Trevelly, using small blades and soft plastics.
HERVEY BAY
Most
of the reefs have produced good catches of mixed reef fish, with reports of
some big Cobia as well, while the Tuna have been very active around Fraser and
the beaches have produced some smaller Tailor.
