FISHING REPORT – 07-06-2012

TOUGH CONDITIONS FOR BASSIN TEAMS CHALLENGE

Thirty teams braved the poor weather conditions, as
well as a tough bite in the fourth round of the Bassin Teams Challenge Series,
which saw a total of 84 Bass weighed in at an average weight of 925 grams. The
overall winners were Wayne Blundell and Matt Johnson who finished with 10/12
fish for 11.940kg. The lure of choice for Matt and Wayne was a Jackall in Bone
colour which also secured Wayne Blundell with the Mullet Gut Marine Big Bass of
2.200kg. Finishing in second place, was Callum Munro and Steve Otto weighing
10/12 for 9.34kg. Third place went to Steve Chang and Allan Price weighing 7/12
for 8.070kg. Luke Draper took out the Skeeter Champion Junior Angler for the
weekend with a 0.650kg Bass.
With weather conditions far from ideal, tournament
organiser, Bruce Anderson, would like to thank all the Anglers who fished the
event. Congratulations to all the winners. For full results, check out the
results section at bassintournaments.com.au

As far as the other Bass impoundments go, Cressbrook
Dam is still producing some quality Bass in reasonable numbers, with the points
throughout the dam proving to be the best spots to fish. A range of lures,
including soft plastics, mask vibes, blades and ice jigs have been successful. The
Bass have gone a bit quiet at Boondooma this week, try targeting the deeper
schools with ice jigs and soft plastics.

YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.

Cooby Dam has
produced the odd Yellowbelly on frozen Saltwater Yabbies and live Shrimp, with
the deeper water holding the most fish. Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have again seen
a few Yellowbelly landed in the timbered areas, using live bait. The Macintyre
River at Goondiwindi has again produced a few Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater
yabbies and live bait, there has been a lot of Jewies about, so getting to the
Yellowbelly has been a little difficult. Glenlyon Dam is still a bit quiet,
with a few Yellowbelly and Silver Perch taken on bait, around the edges. Coolmunda
has produced the odd Yellowbelly on frozen Prawns and Saltwater Yabbies and
it’s worth trolling dark coloured, deep diving lures for Cod, around the
timbered area of the dam. And Leslie Dam, has seen a few Yellowbelly and Silver
Perch being caught in the shallows, mainly on frozen saltwater yabbies and live
worms, the deeper water has been holding a few fish, however getting them to
bite has been difficult.

.

GOLD COAST AND TWEED

Offshore
fishing has been very quiet over the past week, due to the poor weather
conditions, however, for those who ventured out, there were a few Squire caught.
At the Tweed, inshore
fishing has also been a bit quiet, with a few Tailor caught around the river
mouth, and there has been a few Bream and Flathead taken off the rock walls and
jetties, while up around Southport the Seaway produced some Chopper Tailor,
Bream and Gar have been the main catch throughout the Broadwater and the sand
banks have produced a few Flathead.

SUNSHINE COAST

Again
very quiet offshore, due to rough conditions, however there has been some nice
Snapper caught around Coffee Rock and 5 Mile Reef. Inshore fishing has also
been quiet, with a few Flathead at Military Jetty, on the sand banks in the
Maroochy River and some bigger specimens at the mouth of the Noosa River, some
nice Tailor have been taken off the beaches and after the rain, there were some
nice fish landed throughout the Noosa River, including Golden and Giant
Trevelly, as well as some Mangrove Jack.
