FISHING REPORT – 03-05-2012
It should be a good weekend for fishing this weekend,
even though it is going to be a bit cooler, we have a full moon on Sunday night
and it should be a good opportunity to get out and wet a line.
BASS
Still a bit
quiet at Cressbrook Dam at the moment, however there are still a few fish being
caught on Blades and soft plastics in the main basin and over towards Deer
Island as well as in parts of the Bull Creek arm of the dam. Boondooma Dam,
at Pelican point, the junction and the Stuart arm is producing quality Bass on
Soft plastics, while Jackall’s and Little Max 3/8oz blades have been very
popular with the schooled fish, along points & timbered edges, casting with
a very slow retrieve or slow troll has produced the best results. Also this
week, Yellow & Brown, yellow & green & silver SMAK deep divers are
working in 19 - 25ft of water trolling the banks in the Stuart River & the
main basin. Bjelke Peterson dam has been a bit quiet this week, with no reports
of Bass being caught. Somerset has seen a few Bass landed on Blades and Soft
Plastics in 15 to 30 foot of water around the Pelican Point area, and there has
also benn a few fish coming out of the deeper parts of the dam, on blades, soft
plastics and ice jigs.
YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby Dam has again
produced a few Yellowbelly, with the odd fish getting up around the 50cm mark;
there has been a quite a few undersize fish in
amongst them, so remember the minimum length for Yellowbelly is 30cm, frozen Saltwater Yabbies and live Shrimp have
landed the most fish. In Boondooma Dam, the Yellowbelly have been biting in the
coves throughout the main basin, as well as working the drop-offs and holes, live
Shrimp have proven to be the best bait. The Ballone River at St.George is
still producing good numbers of Yellowbelly and a few Cod, caught mainly on
live bait. The Macintyre
River at Goondiwindi is still fairly quiet in the town reaches, but if you
venture out of town a bit, there has been a few Yellowbelly landed, with the
most success coming on bait and smaller hard body lures. Plenty of Yellowbelly
and Jewies coming out of the Dumeresq River at Texas at the moment, and it is
also worth casting Spinnerbaits around the logs and snags for Cod. Glenlyon Dam
has seen some nice Yellowbelly landed, mainly in shallow water, around 5 to 10
feet, with the odd Silver Perch and Cod about as well. There were some nice Cod
up to 78cm taken last weekend, which were all caught on bait. Very quiet this
week at Coolmunda, however the creeks up and downstream of the dam have
produced some nice catches of Yellowbelly on bait. And finally to Leslie Dam, still
a few Yellowbelly being caught on live shrimp, frozen saltwater yabbies and
Spinnerbaits throughout the dam.
GOLD COAST AND TWEED
Offshore
fishing has been a bit quiet again this week; however there has been some
quality Cobia and Snapper on the 18’s and Fidos Reef, while there has been a
few Tuna getting about 9 Mile Reef. At the Tweed, inshore fishing has
produced a few Chopper Tailor off the beaches, and the river has seen some
quality Bream around structure as well as a few Jewies and Trevelly at the
entrance, while up around Southport, the south wall of the Seaway is producing
some nice Jewies and Squid at night, quality Flathead throughout the Broadwater
and Bream are becoming a bit more active.
SUNSHINE COAST
Plenty
of Spanish Mackerel at 12 Mile and North reefs, while Brays Rock has produced a
few small Squire and Cobia. Inshore fishing has produced plenty of good size Flathead
around the bar entrance at Caloundra and also in the Maroochy River. The
Boardwalk at Caloundra has seen a few Blackfish and Bream landed, Bream also
around structure in the Noosa and Maroochy Rivers, the Noosa River has also
seen good numbers of Whiting landed and the beaches have produced some nice
Tailor and the odd Dart.
