Fishing Report 26-042012

FISHING REPORT – 26-04-2012

BASS

The Bass are a
bit scattered at Cressbrook Dam at the moment, however there have been a few
fish caught on Blades and soft plastics in the main basin and over towards Deer
Island as well as in parts of the Bull Creek arm of the dam. Boondooma Dam
has again produced some quality Bass over the past week, casting soft
plastics, Jackal’s and 3/8oz Blades
around the points and timbered edges has produced good numbers of fish, trolling
hard body lures in blue, green and yellow and silver colours in 15 to 30 feet
of water in the main basin and the Stuart River arm of the dam, has worked quite
well also, while anglers using live bait in the Stuart and Boyne arms have
landed some quality fish as well. Small numbers of Bass this week at Bjelke
Peterson dam, with the majority of fish taking live worms and live shrimp. Somerset
has slowed a bit over the past week, with most of the fish coming out of the
deeper parts of the dam, on blades, soft plastics and ice jigs.

YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby Dam has again
produced the odd Yellowbelly, and a few Jewies, frozen Saltwater Yabbies, live
Shrimp and Crays have landed the most fish. Yellowbelly can be found in much
the same areas as the Bass in Boondooma
at the moment, the majority of fish are being caught trolling hard body lures
in around 15-30 feet of water, and for the bait anglers, using live Shrimp in
the Stuart and Boyne arms, has produced some quality fish. The Ballone River
at St.George has seen good numbers of Yellowbelly and a few Cod, caught mainly
on live bait. The Macintyre
River at Goondiwindi has quietened over the past week, due to a rise in the
river, but if you put in a bit if time and effort, you should pick up a few
Yellowbelly on live shrimp and lures. Glenlyon Dam has again fished quite well
over the past week, with a few Cod, as well as good numbers of Yellowbelly,
Silver Perch and Jewies, being caught on live shrimp, frozen saltwater yabbies,
and deep diving lures. Very similar to last week at Coolmunda, some nice
catches of Yellowbelly, and the odd Cod being landed, with bait bringing the
best results at the moment. And finally to Leslie Dam, good numbers of
Yellowbelly and some nice Cod around the 12lb mark, being caught on live
shrimp, frozen saltwater yabbies and lures.

Somerset,
Cressbrook and Boondooma are still producing a few Redclaw, with overnight soaking
producing the best results.

GOLD COAST AND TWEED

Offshore
fishing has been a bit quiet this week, however there has been some quality
Cobia on the 18’s, while the eastern 50’s has produced some nice Snapper. Inshore
fishing has produced Trevelly in the Tweed River, Bream off the rock walls in
the Tweed as well, Whiting around the Council Chambers and in the mid to upper
reaches of the Tweed, quality
Flathead at Kalinger and Gold Bank’s, a few Tailor at the Pin, School Jew and
Swallowtail off the beaches, Gar around Wavebreak and Crab Island’s in the
Broadwater and there has been good numbers of Muddies around most of the creek
mouths.

SUNSHINE COAST

Plenty
of Spanish Mackerel at 12 Mile and North reefs, while 9 Mile, North and the
wider Reefs have produced good numbers of Sweetlip, Snapper, Amberjack and
Cobia. Inshore fishing has produced plenty of Flathead off the Boardwalk at
Caloundra and also on the drift in the Noosa River. Trevelly and Tailor at the
mouth of the Noosa River, Whiting around the Power Boat Club on the run out
tide, Bream off Military Jetty and around structure in the Maroochy River, also
in the Maroochy River, Jewies starting to show up, taking live bait, Queenfish
in the Pelican Waters canals and the beaches have produced some big whiting and
Chopper Tailor.

HERVEY BAY

Longtail
Tuna just off Fraser Island, with some good reports of Snapper about on the
inshore reefs, while fishing off the beaches has produced some nice Whiting.
