FISHING REPORT – 31-05-2012

COOL CONDITIONS FOR BASS ELECTRIC AT CRESSBROOK

29 anglers braved the chilly but calm conditions at
Cressbrook Dam for the 2nd Bass Electric to be held there this year. 14 anglers
presented bass to be weighed but blitzing the field was Phil Fitzgerald with
his 2/2 2.36kg bag. Phil also took home the big bass title with a healthy
1.29kg bass. Phil said that his fish did not come until 12 midday when he had a
10 minute window where he boated his 2 bass. Phil was using a 3/8oz Evergreen
Little Max blade. Phil caught his bass on a point in the main basin opposite
the boat ramp. 2nd place went to David West with 2/2 1.88kg bag. David also
caught his bag at 12 midday but was up the Bull Creek arm of the damp. David
said that he was sitting in about 30 foot of water and around midday he saw
some fish come through on his sounder and again had about a 10 minute window
where he caught his 2 keepers. Shaun Falkenhagen placed 3rd overall. Shaun also
fished the Bull Creek arm of the dam and was using a Jackall Ice Jig. Shaun
caught 5 legals and 4 undersized bass for the morning but said that he caught his
2 biggest bass at 11.30am. By all reports 11.30 to 12 midday was the best time
for the bass.
It was good to see that there were some good fish
caught and the future is looking good for Cressbrook. The next Bass electric at
Cressbrook, will be held in September. The fishing should be awesome.

BASSIN SERIES HEADS TO SOMERSET THIS WEEKEND

The Bassin Teams Challenge heads to Somerset Dam for
the second Queensland round this weekend, these tournaments provide you with
the chance to get a feel for competition fishing, anglers competing against
each other, the clock and the bass. Tournament fishing is exciting and a great
way to meet new people. They are a very social event, where families can fish
together, a couple of mates can have a
go, or a fishing club can use it as part of their event calendar, set up their
marques, flags etc and just have a great weekend. These events have a social
feel about them, but will also cater for the needs of the more seasoned
tournament angler, with lots of cash & great prizes on offer. I have fished
quite a lot of these tournaments since they started, and they are always a very
enjoyable weekend, for more information check out their website at www.bassintournaments.com.au.

produced a few Yellowbelly around the rock wall, with frozen Saltwater Yabbies

bodies. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has again produced a few Yellowbelly
on frozen saltwater yabbies and prawns while spinnerbaits have worked quite
well in the town reaches. Glenlyon Dam has gone a bit quiet, with a few Cod
about in deeper water and not much to report as far as Yellowbelly go. Coolmunda
has produced a few Yellowbelly on frozen Prawns and Saltwater Yabbies and it’s
worth trolling dark coloured, deep diving lures for Cod. And Leslie Dam, has

.

FISHING REPORT – 24-05-2012

BASS

Still some
reasonable catches of Bass coming out of Cressbrook Dam at the moment, soft
plastics seem to be producing the most fish, while the points in the main basin
and over towards Deer Island, as well as parts of the Bull Creek arm of the dam
have been the pick of the spots. Boondooma Dam, try the edges for
bass, using soft plastic, mask vibes and spinnerbaits, and look in the deeper
water for schooled fish, these are best targeted with plastics and ice jigs. Bjelke
Peterson dam has produced some small Bass, off the edges, casting ¼ oz Blades, Somerset
has again been a bit quiet over the past week, even finding fish has been a bit
of a battle, but if you do find any, try targeting the fish with soft plastics,
ice jigs and blades.

there has been a few undersize amongst them and it’s still worth casting
spinnerbaits around snags for a nice Cod. Bait fishing has proven to be the
most popular again this week at Glenlyon Dam, the fish have moved into a bit
deeper water, where Yellowbelly and Silver Perch have been the prominent
species, while there have been a few smaller Cod in amongst them. Coolmunda has
seen a few Yellowbelly taken in the deeper parts of the dam and you could also
try trolling hard bodies near the timber, and as far as the Cod go, try casting
heavier spinnerbaits around the timber as well. And Leslie Dam, has seen a few Yellowbelly
being caught around the timber on frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms, it’s
also worth trying lighter Spinnerbaits in the same areas.
