FISHING REPORT – 19-04-2012
BASS
Cressbrook Dam
has produced a few Bass, caught mainly in the shallows, on lighter spinner
baits and shallow diving minnows, you could also try soft plastics around the
edges and lipless crankbaits in the deeper water, for the larger Bass. Boondooma Dam
has been fishing relatively well for Bass, casting gold and silver Jackal Mask
Vibes and 3/8oz Blades around the points and timbered edges has produced good
numbers of fish and trolling hard bodies in 15 to 20 feet of water at Pelican
Point has worked quite well also. Again very similar to last week at Bjelke
Peterson, quite a few Bass have been caught around the 28 – 33 cm mark. They
are being caught on a selection of live worms, live shrimp and still the odd
one being landed on Blades. Somerset Dam has again produced some good catches
of Bass over the past week, with most of the fish coming on Blades and trolled
lures in about 30 feet of water, around the Pelican Point area of the dam.
YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby Dam has
agian produced some nice Yellowbelly up to 49cm, and quite a few Jewies, frozen
Saltwater Yabbies, live Shrimp and Crays have landed the most fish. Much the
same as the past few weeks at Boondooma, the majority of fish are being caught
trolling hard body lures in around 15-20 feet of water, and for the bait anglers,
using live Shrimp and Worms around the junction and balancing rock has produced
some quality fish. The Ballone River at St.George has seen a few
Yellowbelly and Silver Perch caught mainly on bait. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi
has quietened a little over the past week, but it has started to pick up, with
bait fishing off the banks producing the best results. Thanks to some decent
rain, at the time of writing this report, Glenlyon Dam was over the spillway,
but it has continued to fish quite well, with a few Cod, as well as good
numbers of Yellowbelly, being caught mainly on bait, while it has been a bit
quieter on lures. A few anglers have bought back some nice catches of
Yellowbelly at Coolmunda this week, the fish aren’t very long, but they are solid.
Cod have been a bit scarce, but there has been the odd report of some being
hooked in the deeper water. And finally to Leslie Dam, even though it has had a
lot of pressure over the school holidays, there was good catches of
Yellowbelly, Silver Perch and the odd Cod being caught throughout the dam, on
bait and lures.
Somerset,
Cressbrook and Boondooma are still producing a few Redclaw, with overnight
soaking producing the best results.
GOLD COAST AND TWEED
Offshore
fishing has again been rewarding on the inshore reefs this week, with some nice
Wahoo and Spanish Mackerel caught on trolled deep divers and out wide, there
has been a few reports of Blue Marlin and Dolphin Fish getting about. Inshore fishing has produced Trevelly and Tuna,
off the walls of the Seaway, Whiting around the sand banks throughout the
Broadwater, quality Flathead around the Pin on Plastics, plenty of Tailor
off the Tweed Coast beaches and there has been plenty of Trevelly, Bream and
Blackfish off the rock walls at the Tweed River entrance.
SUNSHINE COAST
Plenty
of Spotty and Spanish Mackerel on trolled lures around the closer inshore reefs.
Inshore fishing has produced plenty of Flathead on soft plastics, off the
Boardwalk at Caloundra and also in the Maroochy and Noosa Rivers. Trevelly,
Tailor and Jewies off the break wall in the Noosa River as well, Whiting and
Bream around the Power Boat Club and on live Yabbies in the Maroochy River and
it’s worth a try at night on the surf beaches for a few Jewies.
HERVEY BAY
There
have been some nice Tuna and Mackerel taken on the inside of Fraser Island and
some good reports of Snapper about on the inshore reefs.
