FISHING REPORT – 26-01-2012
COOBY DAM CLOSURE
Cooby Dam is closed to all water-based activities, due to high levels of E.Coli, which were present in raw water samples taken from the dam for routine testing. The outbreak was first detected last Thursday and council moved to close the dam to all recreational users on Friday. The dam is expected to be closed for a number of weeks, depending on weather conditions.
BASS
Cressbrook Dam is still fishing quite well, with good numbers of fish, still out from the boat ramp and near the buoy line, soft plastics and blades have provided the most fish, but there has also been the odd one taken on trolled hard body lures. The Bass are scattered throughout Boondooma at the moment, trolling hard bodies and casting Jackalls, soft plastics and blades in deeper water have given the best results. Again, the fish are scattered in Bjelke Peterson, but there have been a few Bass caught on bait, in the deeper water, around the points.
Somerset has had a flow into it over the past week, which has resulted in the water becoming dirty. The Bass have gone quiet around the timber, but there has been a few caught in the deeper water, casting Jackalls and Blades.
Yellowbelly and Cod
Still good numbers of Yellowbelly in Boondooma, trolling hard bodies and Jackalls has given the best results. You could also try casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits, working along the steeper banks, and for the bait anglers, using live Shrimp in the Stewart and Boyne arms of the dam should see you land a few as well. The Ballone River at St.George is producing quality Yellowbelly on live Worms and Spinnerbaits. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has been fishing well for Yellowbelly this week, they have been mainly taken on bait, with only a few coming on lures, due to the water still being a bit dirty. The Dumeresq River is fishing well, up and downstream of Texas, with good numbers of quality Yellowbelly being caught, mainly on bait, but it is expected to slow over the next few days, due to a predicted rise in the river. Coolmunda has seen heaps of large Silver Perch and good size Yellowbelly, caught mainly on live worms and frozen salt water Yabbies. Leslie Dam has produced a few Yellowbelly, using frozen Saltwater Yabbies and trolled deep diving, hard body lures. Glenlyon has again fished well over the past week, with heaps of fish about, throughout the dam. There has been good numbers of Yellowbelly taken on bait and also trolled purple and black lures. Most of the fish have been caught in the afternoon.
GOLD COAST AND THE TWEED
Offshore, has been quiet, due to poor weather conditions, but those who have managed to get out have managed to pick up some nice Snapper with a few Cobia in amongst them. Inshore has produced good numbers of Jack’s and Trevelly around structure in the Nerang River and also in the Seaway, using live bait and soft plastics. Nice Flathead, on soft plastics, throughout the Tweed, Garfish around Wavebreak and Crab Islands, quality Whiting near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River, also off most of the beaches and throughout the Tweed River and there has been good numbers of Sand Crabs in the Broadwater, particularly around Wavebreak Island.
SUNSHINE COAST
Offshore fishing is still a bit tough at the moment, but there has been a few Spotty and Spanish Mackerel about, and also some quality Coral Trout and Cobia on the inner reefs. Inshore is producing plenty of Mangrove Jack and Trevelly in the Noosa River on soft plastics, and also on live bait and trolled lures in the passage, quality Whiting on live sandworms and surface poppers, throughout the Noosa River and near the Power Boat Club at Caloundra, Flathead and Bream in the Maroochy River, and Flathead also at Noosa and around the bar entrance at Caloundra.
