FISHING REPORT – 26-01-2012
COOBY DAM CLOSURE
Cooby Dam is closed to all water-based activities, due to high levels of E.Coli, which were present in raw water samples taken from the dam for routine testing. The outbreak was first detected last Thursday and council moved to close the dam to all recreational users on Friday. The dam is expected to be closed for a number of weeks, depending on weather conditions.
BASS
Cressbrook Dam is still fishing quite well, with good numbers of fish, still out from the boat ramp and near the buoy line, soft plastics and blades have provided the most fish, but there has also been the odd one taken on trolled hard body lures. The Bass are scattered throughout Boondooma at the moment, trolling hard bodies and casting Jackalls, soft plastics and blades in deeper water have given the best results. Again, the fish are scattered in Bjelke Peterson, but there have been a few Bass caught on bait, in the deeper water, around the points.
Somerset has had a flow into it over the past week, which has resulted in the water becoming dirty. The Bass have gone quiet around the timber, but there has been a few caught in the deeper water, casting Jackalls and Blades.

Yellowbelly and Cod
Still good numbers of Yellowbelly in Boondooma, trolling hard bodies and Jackalls has given the best results. You could also try casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits, working along the steeper banks, and for the bait anglers, using live Shrimp in the Stewart and Boyne arms of the dam should see you land a few as well. The Ballone River at St.George is producing quality Yellowbelly on live Worms and Spinnerbaits. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has been fishing well for Yellowbelly this week, they have been mainly taken on bait, with only a few coming on lures, due to the water still being a bit dirty. The Dumeresq River is fishing well, up and downstream of Texas, with good numbers of quality Yellowbelly being caught, mainly on bait, but it is expected to slow over the next few days, due to a predicted rise in the river. Coolmunda has seen heaps of large Silver Perch and good size Yellowbelly, caught mainly on live worms and frozen salt water Yabbies. Leslie Dam has produced a few Yellowbelly, using frozen Saltwater Yabbies and trolled deep diving, hard body lures. Glenlyon has again fished well over the past week, with heaps of fish about, throughout the dam. There has been good numbers of Yellowbelly taken on bait and also trolled purple and black lures. Most of the fish have been caught in the afternoon.








GOLD COAST AND THE TWEED

Offshore, has been quiet, due to poor weather conditions, but those who have managed to get out have managed to pick up some nice Snapper with a few Cobia in amongst them. Inshore has produced good numbers of Jack’s and Trevelly around structure in the Nerang River and also in the Seaway, using live bait and soft plastics. Nice Flathead, on soft plastics, throughout the Tweed, Garfish around Wavebreak and Crab Islands, quality Whiting near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River, also off most of the beaches and throughout the Tweed River and there has been good numbers of Sand Crabs in the Broadwater, particularly around Wavebreak Island.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing is still a bit tough at the moment, but there has been a few Spotty and Spanish Mackerel about, and also some quality Coral Trout and Cobia on the inner reefs. Inshore is producing plenty of Mangrove Jack and Trevelly in the Noosa River on soft plastics, and also on live bait and trolled lures in the passage, quality Whiting on live sandworms and surface poppers, throughout the Noosa River and near the Power Boat Club at Caloundra, Flathead and Bream in the Maroochy River, and Flathead also at Noosa and around the bar entrance at Caloundra.

Fishing Report 19-01-2012

FISHING REPORT – 19-01-2012


BASS
Cressbrook Dam is still fishing quite well, with good numbers of fish, still out from the boat ramp and near the buoy line, soft plastics and blades have provided the most fish. The fishing is a little steady at Boondooma at the moment, the fish are a bit scattered and you have to put in a bit of work for them. Trolling hard body lures in lighter colours, casting soft plastics, mask vibes or blades have given the best results. Again, the fish are scattered in Bjelke Peterson, but there have been a few Bass caught around Bass Point, on ice jigs and mask vibes.
At Somerset the Bass are quite scattered throughout the dam, try targeting these fish with Blades, Soft Plastics, Jackalls, and trolled hard bodies, and you should pick up a few nice fish. There has been a lot of Bass caught in around the timber as well, on Blades and Soft Plastics, casting near the trees and slowly working the lures back to the boat has been the most successful. It is also worth a look around the edges as well.

You could also try casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits, working along the steeper banks, and for the bait anglers, using live Shrimp in the Stewart and Boyne arms of the dam should see you land a few as well. The Ballone River at St.George is producing quality Yellowbelly and a few Cod, up to 20lb, at the moment live Shrimp, Yabbies and Worms have produced the most fish. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has produced heaps of Yellowbelly this week, they have been mainly taken on bait, with only a few coming on lures, due to the water still being a bit dirty. The Dumeresq River at Texas is fishing well, in the town reaches , as well as downstream, with both Cod and Yellowbelly being caught on bait. There was a 38lb Cod caught downstream of Texas. Coolmunda has been a bit quiet this week, but there are still a few Yellowbelly being taken on trolled lures out from the boat ramp. Leslie Dam has produced a few Yellowbelly, using frozen Saltwater Yabbies, and the odd Cod, caught on trolled, deep diving, hard body lures. Glenlyon has again fished well over the past week, with a few Cod caught on Spinnerbaits around the Caves area of the dam, there has also been good numbers of Yellowbelly, taken on bait, trolled hard body lures and Jackalls.

Offshore, has seen good catches of Spotty Mackerell out off Palm Beach and around the gravel patch, dolphin fish and Yellowfin Tuna on 9 Mile Reef and some quality Blue Marlin have been caught out passed the 40’s and wider. Inshore has produced good numbers of Jack’s and Trevelly around structure in the Nerang River and also in the Seaway, using live bait and soft plastics, nice Flathead, on soft plastics, throughout the Tweed, Garfish around Wavebreak and Crab Islands, quality Whiting near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River, also off most of the beaches and throughout the Tweed River and there has been plenty of Muddies getting about the Coomera and Pimpama Rivers, as well as good numbers of Sand Crabs in the Broadwater.

There have been big numbers of Mackerell throughout the Bay, and the rivers are producing good numbers of King Salmon and Mangrove Jack.

Fishing Report 12-01-2012

FISHING REPORT – 12-01-2012


BASS
Cressbrook Dam is still fishing quite well, provided you can locate the active schools of Bass. Trolling and casting blades, Jackalls or Spinnerbaits have been producing the best results, with most fish holding around 15ft. It would also be worth trying the edges early morning and late afternoon, with surface and reaction lures. Boondooma Dam is still fishing quite well, with good numbers of fish still being taken throughout the dam, hard bodies, like SMAK 12’s, 19’s and Golden Child have proven to be the best lures for trolling, while casting Spinnerbaits and Jackalls at steeper banks has also produced some quality fish. Bjelke Peterson has again produced a few Bass around the points on live bait and trolled hard body lures.
At Somerset the Bass are quite scattered around Pelican Point, try targeting these fish with Blades, Jackalls, and trolled hard bodies, and you should pick up a few nice fish. There has been a lot of Bass caught in around the timber on Blades and Jackalls, casting near the trees and slowly working the lures back to the boat has been the most successful. The Redclaw have been on the move, with large quantities being caught close to the edges, using cat food for bait.

Yellowbelly and Cod
Still good numbers of Yellowbelly in Boondooma, trolling hard bodies and Jackalls has given the best results. You could also try casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits, working along the steeper banks, and for the bait anglers, using live Shrimp in the Stewart and Boyne arms of the dam should see you land a few as well. The Ballone River at St.George has produced plenty of Yellowbelly over the past week, the fish aren’t huge, but they are certainly there in numbers. Small hard body lures and live Shrimp and Worms have produced the most fish.
The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has fired up over the past week, with heaps of Yellowbelly, and Cod up to 20lb being taken, casting or trolling Spinners, Spinnerbaits and hard body lures, however, it has been a bit quiet for the bait anglers. The Dumeresq River at Texas is fishing well, in the town reaches , as well as upstream, with both Cod and Yellowbelly being caught on frozen Saltwater Yabbies, Morme and live Shrimp. Not much activity for the lure anglers this week, as there is a slight flow in the river and the water is a bit dirty. Coolmunda has fished quite well this week, with most fish coming on lures, out from the boat ramp, or up around the timber. Leslie Dam has produced a few Yellowbelly, trolling diving lures around the rock wall, or using peeled prawns and frozen Saltwater Yabbies off the bank. Glenlyon has again fished well over the past week, with some nice Cod around the 20lb mark, as well as plenty of Yellowbelly, caught mainly on Jackalls, Blades and trolled hard body lures, with late afternoon being the best time to target the fish.

Inshore has produced good numbers of Jack’s and Trevelly around structure in the Nerang River and also in the Seaway, using live bait and soft plastics, nice Flathead, on soft plastics, throughout the Tweed, Garfish around Wavebreak and Crab Islands, quality Whiting near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River and also throughout the Tweed River and there has been plenty of Muddies getting about the Coomera and Pimpama Rivers, as well as good numbers of Sand Crabs in the Broadwater.

Inshore is producing plenty of Mangrove Jack and Trevelly in the Noosa River on soft plastics, and on live bait and trolled lures in the passage as well as the Maroochy River, quality Whiting on live sandworms and surface poppers, throughout the Noosa River and near the Power Boat Club at Caloundra, Flathead and Bream in the Maroochy River, and Flathead also at Noosa and around the bar entrance at Caloundra.

HERVEY BAY

There have been big numbers of Spotty Mackerell to 6kg around Moon Point. The reefs have been a bit quiet, but have produced some Parrot Fish and Cod and there has been a few Golden Trevelly and Cobia around the Fairway Buoy.

FISHING REPORT – 05-01-2012


BASS
Cressbrook Dam is still fishing quite well, with good numbers of Bass around the 30-40cm mark, being taken on Soft Plastics, Jackalls and Blades.
Bass fishing has fired up at Boondooma over this past week, with plenty of fish being taken throughout the dam, hard bodies, like SMAK 12’s, 19’s and Golden Child have proven to be the best lures for trolling, while casting Spinnerbaits and Jackalls at steeper banks has also produced some quality fish. Bjelke Peterson has again produced a few Bass around the points on live bait and trolled Mask Vibe Jackalls, there are a lot of undersize fish being caught, so remember, the minimum length for Bass is 30cm.
At Somerset the Bass are schooled up around Pelican Point, Queen Street and around Kirkleigh, try targeting these fish with Blades, Jackalls, and trolled hard bodies, and you should pick up a few nice fish.

Yellowbelly and Cod
Still good numbers of Yellowbelly in Boondooma, trolling hard bodies and Jackalls has given the best results. You could also try casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits, working along the steeper banks, and for the bait anglers, using live Shrimp in the Stewart arm of the dam should see you land a few as well. The Ballone River at St.George has settled a bit over the past week, this has resulted in some good catches of Yellowbelly and Cod throughout the river, with live Shrimp and Crays proving to be the best bait.
The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has fished a bit tough over the past week, however, if you can find a patch of fish, you will certainly land some quality Yellowbelly, with frozen Saltwater Yabbies, live Worms and Shrimp proving to be the best bait. The Dumeresq River, downstream of Texas has seen good catches of Yellowbelly and a few Cod, mainly taken on live bait. Fishing has been a bit patchy this week at Coolmunda, with some anglers bagging out, while others have struggled, but there has been some good quality Yellowbelly and a few nice Cod around the 65 – 70cm mark caught on trolled hard body lures and frozen saltwater yabbies. Leslie Dam has produced some quality Yellowbelly, Silver Perch and the odd just legal Cod on frozen saltwater yabbies, as well as trolled hard body lures. Glenlyon has again fished well over the past week, with some nice Cod around the 90 – 100cm mark, as well as plenty of Yellowbelly and Silver Perch, caught mainly on Spinnerbaits, trolled hard body lures and live Shrimp.







GOLD COAST AND THE TWEED

The seas have settled a bit offshore over the past week, so there has been heaps of Spotty Mackerell out off Palm and Mermaid beaches, Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo at 9 Mile Reef, Wahoo, Dolphin Fish and Marlin on the 36’s, and good numbers of Snapper around Cook Island and the 24’s. Inshore has seen good numbers of Jack’s around Sovereign Island and Paradise Point, Tailor, Yellowtail Kingfish and Trevelly in the Seaway, on the run-in tide, nice Flathead throughout the Tweed, Garfish around Wavebreak and Crab Islands, Whiting near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River and also throughout Pimpama River and Coombabah Creek and there has been plenty of Muddies in the mid to upper reaches of the Tweed, as well as good numbers of Sand Crabs at the southern end of the Broadwater.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing again has been hard going due to strong winds, but there has been a few Spotty and Spanish Mackerel about. Inshore, the Noosa River is producing plenty of Mangrove Jack and Flathead at night with a few quality Trevelly thrown in as well, also some quality Whiting throughout the Noosa River and near the Power Boat Club at Caloundra, also at Caloundra, there has been a few Jewies coming out of the deeper holes in the passage, Flathead and Bream off the Boardwalk, Mangrove Jack in Bells Creek, the Maroochy River is still a bit dirty, but it has produced some reasonable numbers of School Jew in the Cod Hole and there has been some good catches of Muddies in the creeks.
