FISHING REPORT – 26-04-2012

BASS

The Bass are a
bit scattered at Cressbrook Dam at the moment, however there have been a few
fish caught on Blades and soft plastics in the main basin and over towards Deer
Island as well as in parts of the Bull Creek arm of the dam. Boondooma Dam
has again produced some quality Bass over the past week, casting soft
plastics, Jackal’s and 3/8oz Blades
around the points and timbered edges has produced good numbers of fish, trolling
hard body lures in blue, green and yellow and silver colours in 15 to 30 feet
of water in the main basin and the Stuart River arm of the dam, has worked quite
well also, while anglers using live bait in the Stuart and Boyne arms have
landed some quality fish as well. Small numbers of Bass this week at Bjelke
Peterson dam, with the majority of fish taking live worms and live shrimp. Somerset
has slowed a bit over the past week, with most of the fish coming out of the
deeper parts of the dam, on blades, soft plastics and ice jigs.

YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby Dam has again
produced the odd Yellowbelly, and a few Jewies, frozen Saltwater Yabbies, live
Shrimp and Crays have landed the most fish. Yellowbelly can be found in much
the same areas as the Bass in Boondooma
at the moment, the majority of fish are being caught trolling hard body lures
in around 15-30 feet of water, and for the bait anglers, using live Shrimp in
the Stuart and Boyne arms, has produced some quality fish. The Ballone River
at St.George has seen good numbers of Yellowbelly and a few Cod, caught mainly
on live bait. The Macintyre
River at Goondiwindi has quietened over the past week, due to a rise in the
river, but if you put in a bit if time and effort, you should pick up a few
Yellowbelly on live shrimp and lures. Glenlyon Dam has again fished quite well
over the past week, with a few Cod, as well as good numbers of Yellowbelly,
Silver Perch and Jewies, being caught on live shrimp, frozen saltwater yabbies,
and deep diving lures. Very similar to last week at Coolmunda, some nice
catches of Yellowbelly, and the odd Cod being landed, with bait bringing the
best results at the moment. And finally to Leslie Dam, good numbers of
Yellowbelly and some nice Cod around the 12lb mark, being caught on live
shrimp, frozen saltwater yabbies and lures.

Somerset,
Cressbrook and Boondooma are still producing a few Redclaw, with overnight soaking
producing the best results.

Offshore
fishing has been a bit quiet this week, however there has been some quality
Cobia on the 18’s, while the eastern 50’s has produced some nice Snapper. Inshore

the Tweed as well, Whiting around the Council Chambers and in the mid to upper
reaches of the Tweed, quality

but it has continued to fish quite well, with a few Cod, as well as good

Fishing Report 05-04-2012

FISHING REPORT – 05-04-2012

EASTER WEEKEND SHAPING UP TO BE BUSY

With good weather forecast for the Easter weekend, our
dams and waterways are going to be fairly busy. If you are going boating over
the break, make sure your PFD’s (Personal Flotation Device) are in good
condition and up to the latest Australian Standards, you must have a PFD for
all persons in the boat and all children under the age of 12 must wear a PFD at
all times, while the boat is underway. A boat is classed as being underway,
most of the time, apart from when it is anchored or nosed onto a bank. Boat
ramp rage is another issue that arises at these busy times of year. There are a
few things we can do to avoid these situations, make sure you have your boat
ready for launching before moving onto the ramp, offer to help, if someone is
launching on their own, or even having difficulty backing the trailer. There
will be a lot of boats, kayaks, canoes and people on the water, so make sure
you stay alert, if everyone does these few simple things, we should all have a
safe and happy Easter. With the weather looking pretty good and a full moon on
Saturday night, the fishing should be good, so good luck to everyone heading
out for a fish this Easter and make sure you send your photos to mullet_gut@bigpond.com or drop them into
the shop, and you never know, your photo could end up in the paper.

the edges and hopping Mask Vibes around the points. Again very similar to last

cm mark. They are being caught on a selection of live worms, live shrimp and
