FISHING REPORT – 08-12-2011
BASS
Cressbrook Dam continued to fish quite well prior to the rain, with some good numbers of Bass around the 30-40cm mark, being taken on Soft Plastics, Jackall Chubbies and Blades.
Boondooma Dam has continued to fish well, with good numbers of Bass landed throughout the dam. Casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits to the edges and trolling hard body lures in darker colours, early morning and late afternoon, and brighter colours through the middle of the day has proven to be the most successful. Bjelke Peterson has produced a few, just legal Bass on live bait, and Baramba Creek above and below the dam is still producing quality fish in good numbers.
At Somerset, there are still some nice Bass around, in the deeper water, try targeting these fish with Jackalls, Blades and Soft Plastics and you should land a few.
Yellowbelly and Cod
Still good numbers of Yellowbelly in Boondooma, basically in the same areas, and using the same methods that the Bass have been caught on. The fishing picked up again at Coolmunda this week, with some good numbers of Yellowbelly and a few big Cod landed, the best methods have been, trolling hard body lures, casting Jackalls and using live shrimp.
Leslie Dam has quietened a little this week, but has still produced a few Yellowbelly and Silver Perch, which have been taken on bait and trolled hard body lures.
Glenlyon has again fished well over the past week, with some nice Cod up around the 70-75cm mark, as well as good numbers of Yellowbelly, caught mainly on Spinnerbaits, trolled hard body lures and live Shrimp.
GOLD COAST AND THE TWEED
The offshore fishing has been fairly nonexistent over the past week, due to strong offshore winds, however, inshore has seen plenty of Whiting in the Nerang River, Flathead throughout the Tweed River and around the sand bars in the Broadwater, Mangrove Jack around the bridges and jetties at night in the Tweed, Barney’s Point is producing good catches of Jew around the bridges in the Tweed and also off the headlands at Kingscliff and Cabarita and there’s been plenty of Sand Crabs throughout the Broadwater.
SUNSHINE COAST
Offshore fishing has also been quiet over the past week, due to strong winds. Inshore has produced good numbers of Flathead in the Boardwalk area at Caloundra, and also in most of the estuaries throughout the coast, Mangrove Jack’s around Munna Point and near structure in most of the creeks and rivers, heaps of Trevally and the odd Barramundi still getting about in the Noosa River and plenty of Whiting near the Power Boat Club.
HERVEY BAY
Again, it has been to windy for any offshore fishing this week, but it’s worth a try in the Mary River for Grunter and Salmon.
