FISHING REPORT – 15-12-2011
BASS
Cressbrook Dam has continued to fish well, with good numbers of Bass around the 30-40cm mark, being taken on Soft Plastics, Jackalls and Blades.
Boondooma Dam has continued to fish well, with good numbers of Bass landed throughout the dam, casting blades to the edges and trolling hard body lures around the points, has proven to be the most successful. Bjelke Peterson has again produced a few, just legal Bass on live bait, as well as some nice Yellowbelly on trolled lures, in the timbered area of the dam.
At Somerset, there are still some nice Bass around, but you still have to put in a bit of time to find the fish, try targeting these fish with jackalls, blades and soft plastics and you should land a few and the Redclaw have become a bit more active over the past week as well.
Yellowbelly and Cod
Still good numbers of Yellowbelly in Boondooma, basically in the same areas, and using the same methods that the Bass have been caught on.
The Ballone River at St.George has a good flow in it at the moment, however there are plenty of Yellowbelly and Cod being caught in the town reaches.
The Macintyre is again producing good numbers of Yellowbelly and Cod, with frozen Saltwater Yabbies and trolled lures proving to be the most successful methods.
Coolmunda has continued to fish well this week, with some good numbers of Yellowbelly and a few big Cod landed, the best methods have been, trolling hard body lures, casting Jackalls and using live shrimp.
Leslie Dam has produced some quality Yellowbelly, mainly on bait, and also some Cod, trolling hard body lures in deeper water. Glenlyon has again fished well over the past week, with some nice Cod up around the 15lb mark, as well as plenty of Yellowbelly, caught mainly on Spinnerbaits, trolled hard body lures and live Shrimp.
GOLD COAST AND THE TWEED
The offshore fishing has picked up this week with good catches of Spotty Mackerell, Yellowtail Kingfish and Snapper on the 18’s and 24’s, while further out on the 36’s and 40’s, there has been plenty of Dolphin Fish, Wahoo and Black Marlin. Inshore has seen good size Flathead and Whiting throughout the Tweed and Broadwater, School Jew and Mangrove Jack around structure in the Tweed and also in the creeks and rivers at the Gold Coast, Gar out from Seaworld and Sand Crabs are prominent in the Broadwater.
SUNSHINE COAST
Offshore fishing has picked up here as well over past week, with some fairly good numbers of Spotty Mackerel and Coral Trout caught around the inner reefs. Inshore has seen big numbers of good size Flathead in the Boardwalk area at Caloundra, and also throughout the Maroochy and Noosa Rivers, plenty of Queenfish and Trevally in the passage and the Noosa River, the Noosa River has also produced good catches of Threadfin Salmon, Barramundi and Mangrove Jack. The Maroochy River has provided some fun for the Bream anglers, with plenty of fish being taken on surface poppers and there has been heaps of Muddies caught throughout the creeks.
HERVEY BAY
The shallow reefs of the bay have seen plenty of activity, with good numbers of Coral Trout, Coral Bream and School Mackerel landed, while the Burrum River has been producing plenty of Jack’s and Barra.
