BASS
Boondooma is still fishing well, with good numbers of Bass, up to 50cm landed, throughout the dam. Best methods are casting Spinnerbaits and Jackalls, in dark colours, to the edges, hopping Mask Vibes and Blades around Pelican Point as well as trolling hard body lures, and fishing the start of the timber in the Stuart and Boyne arms with live shrimp and worms is also producing some quality fish.
Bjelke Peterson has produced a few just legal Bass on bait around Bass Point and Baramba Creek above and below the dam is still producing quality fish in good numbers.
Somerset is still fishing quite well, with some nice Bass taken on Soft Plastics, Blades and Ice Jigs from Beams Creek through to the Queen Street area of the dam.
Maroon Dam has seen good catches of Bass on surface lures, fishing the edges, early morning and late afternoon.
Yellowbelly and Cod
Big numbers of Yellowbelly in Boondooma, basically in the same areas that the Bass are, again, the best methods are casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits to the edges, hopping Mask Vibes and Blades around Pelican Point, trolling hard body lures and using live Worms and Shrimp at the start of the timber in the Stuart and Boyne arms of the dam.
The Macintyre at Goondiwindi is still producing reasonable catches of Yellowbelly in the town reaches, for the best results, use frozen saltwater yabbies, live Shrimp and Crays.
Coolmunda has produced plenty of Yellowbelly and a few Cod this week, there was a 98cm Cod caught and released, and the majority of the fish have been caught, trolling hard body lures.
Leslie Dam is producing a few Yellowbelly, Silver Perch and the odd Eel Tail Catfish, mainly on live Shrimps, with a few fish caught on hard body lures.
Glenlyon has again fished well over the past week, with good numbers of Yellowbelly and Cod, from 65-75cm, caught mainly on Spinnerbaits and hard body lures. There has also been quite a few fish taken on live bait.
Redclaw have started to become a bit more active in Cressbrook, Boondooma, Bjelke Peterson and Somerset, due to the increase in water temperature.
GOLD COAST AND THE TWEED
Good numbers of Yellowtail Kingfish and Amberjacks taken on Jigs, mainly around the Northern 50’s and 9 Mile Reef, Squire around Cook Island, plenty of Cobia on the 18 and 24’s and some nice Mahi Mahi on the 36’s. Inshore has seen plenty of Whiting and Flathead throughout the Tweed River, Flathead also around Crab Island and the Aldershots at the Gold Coast, Mangrove Jack near the rock wall at Chinderah, in the Tweed, the Gold Coast Seaway is still producing good numbers of Tailor, Tarpon and Trevelly off the north wall, a few Tailor and Dart off most of the beaches and there has been a few Mudcrabs caught in Pimpama Creek and the Tweed and Coomera Rivers.
SUNSHINE COAST
Good catches of Snapper and Grassy Sweetlip at 9 Mile Reef, a few Cobia around 12 Mile Reef, big Red’s, Pearl Perch and Snapper at Double Island Point and closer in, on Sunshine Reef, there has been good numbers of mixed reef fish and Snapper taken on Lucanus Jigs. Inshore has seen good numbers of big Flathead and Bream around the Boardwalk at Caloundra, Chopper Tailor at the Bar entrance, and Whiting near the Power Boat Club and opposite Munna Banks in the Noosa River. Mangrove Jacks in the Pelican Waters canals, big Jacks and G.T’s upstream, near Tewantin, in the Noosa River, and between the lakes in the upper reaches of the Noosa River has also produced good catches of Mangrove Jack, Barramundi up to 1m plus, and Threadfin Salmon, trolling diving lures at about 3 metres.
