FISHING REPORT – 16-08-2012
BASS
Bass fishing
around the area is very good at the moment with most of the dams that hold
Bass, producing good numbers. Cressbrook actually went a bit quiet over the
weekend, with the weather system that went through, but it has picked up during
the week, with some quality fish landed, in the usual spots, out from the boat
ramp, near the buoy line, Bull Creek arm and around Deer Island, soft plastics,
ice jigs and blades have produced the most fish. The fish are holding in the
deeper water at Boondooma, ice jigs and soft vibes have been working
well, ice jigs and blades have produced low numbers around the timber at Bjelke
Peterson, Somerset is still firing, with plenty of big Bass landed throughout
the dam, anywhere from The Spit through to the timbered area at Kirkleigh, ice
jigs, blades and mask vibes have picked up the most fish, and finally, Moogerah
Dam has again produced good numbers of quality Bass on ice jigs, blades and
mask vibes, in about 28-32ft of water.
YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby Dam is
still fairly quiet, with the odd Yellowbelly caught on live shrimp in the
deeper parts of the dam, using live bait in the timbered areas of the Stuart
and Boyne arms of Boondooma, has produced some nice fish, there’s also been the
odd one taken off the edges on Jackalls and Spinnerbaits, Bjelke Peterson Dam
has seen small numbers of Yellowbelly and the odd Eel tailed catfish caught in
the timbered area of the dam, with live bait proving to be the best. Pindari
Dam, near Inverell is still producing plenty of Yellowbelly and Cod, Glenlyon
Dam has again seen some nice Yellowbelly landed on blades and Jackalls, these
fish have mainly been in deeper water. And at Leslie Dam, small numbers of
Yellowbelly, and quite a few eel-tail catfish have been landed on live bait in
deeper water, compared to the past few weeks, where they were holding more in
10-15ft of water. As far as the rivers go, the Balonne at St.George is still
producing good numbers of Yellowbelly, as well as a few nice Cod throughout the
river, these have been taken on frozen prawns and dark coloured lures, the Macintyre
River at Goondiwindi has picked up this week, with some nice Yellowbelly and a
few Cod taken, mainly on live bait and trolled hard body lures, and a lot of
the weirs and deeper holes along the Condamine have produced a few Yellowbelly
and the odd Cod on live bait and lures.
GOLD COAST AND TWEED
Offshore
Fishing has seen good numbers of Snapper and Spangled Emperor on the closer
reefs and around Cook Island, while inshore, the Tweed River has produced
quality Flathead in the upper reaches, still reasonable numbers of Bream and
Blackfish around the rock walls and a few decent Tailor around the headlands,
up around Southport, there’s plenty of Trevelly and School Jew in the Seaway,
these have been targeted with live bait and bigger Squidgy Slick Rigs, good
numbers of Flathead and Bream around Crab Island and try the sand pumping
jetty, early morning for some quality Tailor on pilchards and metal slugs.
SUNSHINE COAST
Offshore
fishing has gone alright again this week, with good numbers of Snapper on the
closer reefs, while the wider reefs have produced quality Pearl Perch, Amber Jack,
Parrot and Snapper. At Caloundra, inshore fishing has seen plenty of Bream and
Blackfish taken off the Boardwalk, on the run in tide, Trevelly in the Pelican
Waters canals, Flathead throughout the passage, the Maroochy River has also
produced some nice Flathead and Bream and a few Sand Crabs in the lower
reaches, the Noosa River has seen good catches of School Jew and Trevelly at
night, the best methods for these have been, using live bait and slow rolling
soft plastics and there’s been a few Whiting and Dart coming off the beaches.
HERVEY BAY
Offshore fishing is producing Snapper, Sweetlip,
Mangrove Jack and Coral Trout on the outer reefs, inshore has seen big Bream,
Whiting and Flathead taken off the Urangan Peir, while Fraser Island is still
producing some reasonable catches of Tailor.

FISHING REPORT – 09-08-2012
BASS
Cressbrook Dam
is still producing quality bass up to 47cm, the best spots are, out from the
boat ramp, near the buoy line, Bull Creek arm and around Deer Island, soft
plastics, ice jigs and blades have produced the most fish. At Boondooma, Bass
have been caught jigging squidgy fish and Jackall Mask vibes in 60ft of water, targeting
suspended fish at 20 to 30ft, also try fishing the rocky points & edges at
the start of the Stuart timber, Bass
have been smashing TN60 Jackalls, SMAK Ice jigs and Mini coop Spinnerbaits. Still quiet at Bjelke Peterson dam at
the moment, with the odd smaller Bass being taken on ice jigs and bait around
the timbered area. Somerset has really fired up over the past week, with plenty
of big Bass landed throughout the dam, ice jigs, blades and mask vibes have
picked up the most fish. Moogerah Dam has been producing good numbers of
quality Bass on ice jigs, blades and mask vibes.

COD.
Cooby Dam is
still fairly quiet, with the odd Yellowbelly caught on live shrimp in the
deeper parts of the dam. In Boondooma
Dam, Yellowbelly are scattered throughout, there’s been the odd one taken off
the edges on Jackalls and spinnerbaits and if you can get live shrimp, high 40cm Yellowbelly have
been
reported
through the week in the Boyne timber & around the junction. Bjelke Peterson
Dam, has seen small numbers of Yellowbelly caught in the timbered area of the
dam, with live bait proving to be the best. As far as the rivers go, the
Balonne at St.George is still producing good numbers of Yellowbelly, as well as
a few nice Cod throughout the river. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has
again been a bit quiet this week. The Macintyre Brook, downstream of Coolmunda
has produced good catches of Yellowbelly and Cod, the Dumeresq River at Texas
has seen some good numbers of Yellowbelly taken on bait, downstream of the
township. Pindari Dam, near Inverell has been going off, with plenty of
Yellowbelly and Cod landed over the past week. Glenlyon Dam has again seen some
nice Yellowbelly landed, these fish have mainly been in deeper water and using
blades and live bait has produced the best results. And at Leslie Dam, small

Island and 9 Mile Reef has produced a few Yellowtail Kingfish, while inshore
the Tweed River has produced quality Flathead in the upper reaches,
still reasonable numbers of Bream and Blackfish around the rock walls and a few
decent Tailor around the headlands, while up around Southport, there’s been
plenty of Tailor, Trevelly and Queenies caught around the southern end of Crab
Island, Mulloway and Trevelly on live bait and metal slugs in the Seaway, Bream
in the deeper holes throughout the Broadwater and Flathead at Kalinga Bank.

FISHING REPORT – 02-08-2012
BASSIN SERIES HEADS TO MOOGERAH THIS WEEKEND
The Bassin Teams Challenge heads to Moogerah Dam for
the third Queensland round this weekend, these tournaments provide you with the
chance to get a feel for competition fishing, anglers competing against each
other, the clock and the bass. Tournament fishing is exciting and a great way
to meet new people. They are a very social event, where families can fish
together, a couple of mates can have a
go, or a fishing club can use it as part of their event calendar, set up their
marques, flags etc and just have a great weekend. These events have a social
feel about them, but will also cater for the needs of the more seasoned
tournament angler, with lots of cash & great prizes on offer. I have fished
quite a lot of these tournaments since they started, and they are always a very
enjoyable weekend, nominations are excepted up until Friday night, for more

was reopened last Thursday, after being closed to boating for about a week,
there have been some quality bass up to 47cm caught in the past week, best
spots are, out from the boat ramp, near the buoy line, Bull Creek arm and
around Deer Island, soft plastics and blades have provided the most fish.

scattered throughout Boondooma Dam, but there are still fairly good numbers
of fish being landed, with ice jigs and blades getting the most attention. Very
hit and miss at Bjelke Peterson dam at the moment, with the odd smaller Bass
being taken on ice jigs and bait around the timbered area. Very much a carbon
copy of the past few weeks at Somerset, with a few scattered fish about, and
there is the odd smaller school starting to form as well, try targeting these
fish with soft plastics and ice jigs and you should land a few, but it is still
hard work. The best areas have been from Beams Creek right through to Queen
Street.

in the deeper parts of the dam. In Boondooma Dam, very similar to the bass,
Yellowbelly are scattered throughout, with blades and ice jigs picking up a few
fish, there’s also been the odd one taken off the edges on Jackalls and
spinnerbaits. Bjelke Peterson Dam, has seen small numbers of Yellowbelly caught
in the timbered area of the dam, with live bait proving to be the best. As far
as the rivers go, the Balonne at St.George is still producing good numbers of
Yellowbelly, as well as a few nice Cod throughout the river. The Macintyre

the system, which has dirtied the water. The border rivers are producing some
decent catches of Cod on surface lures, early morning and late afternoon, or

mainly been in deeper water and using blades has produced the best results. And
at Leslie Dam, small numbers of Yellowbelly, have been landed in 10-15ft of
water, early morning, on live bait.

FISHING REPORT – 26-07-2012
CRESSBROOK DAM
At this stage Toowoomba Regional Council are expecting
Cressbrook Dam to be opened by the weekend, providing there are no significant
rain events. Keep an eye on the Mullet Gut Marine Facebook page for any
updates.
BASS
Very similar to
last week in the South Burnett area, at Boondooma Dam there are still fairly
good numbers of fish about, and even a few up around the 50cm mark, try fishing
the rocky points and edges, using soft plastics, Blades and Jackall mask vibes,
and if you can find the schooled fish, ice jigs have produced some good catches
as well. Bjelke Peterson dam has produced some small Bass using bait around the
timbered area. Not a lot has changed at Somerset this week with a few scattered
fish about, and there is the odd smaller school starting to form as well, try
targeting these fish with soft plastics and ice jigs and you should land a few,
but it is still hard work. The best areas have been from Beams Creek right
through to Queen Street.

water level in the Balonne at St.George has dropped a bit and this seen good
numbers of Yellowbelly taken from the edges on bait, and a few nice Cod landed
as well. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi
is fishing well, with plenty of Yellowbelly up to 5lb landed, within the town
reaches on lures, live worms and frozen saltwater yabbies, there are also
plenty of eel-tail catfish about, however the Cod have been a bit quiet. The
Dumeresq River at Texas has been a bit quiet, with small numbers of Yellowbelly
being landed on bait and no real reports of any Cod being caught. Yarramolong
Weir near Pampas has seen a few quality Yellowbelly caught on live worms.
Glenlyon Dam has seen some nice Yellowbelly and Cod landed, these fish have
mainly been in deeper water and using live bait has produced the most fish. Coolmunda
has again produced a few nice Yellowbelly on bait, around the timber, there has
also been good numbers of eel-tail catfish about. And at Leslie Dam, it’s
taking a bit of hard work to land a Yellowbelly, with only low numbers of fish
being landed on frozen Saltwater Yabbies and live worms.

Due to very
rough conditions over the past week, offshore fishing has been pretty much non
existant. The Tweed River has produced some quality Flathead in the
Cobaki Lakes area, with a few Bream thrown in the mix, the river mouth has also
seen a few Bream about, as well as some small Tailor and if you like chasing
Mulloway, there has been some nice fish landed around Barney’s Point bridge,
while up around Southport, fishing the run out tide has seen good numbers of quality Flathead, Tailor
and Trevelly taken in the Seaway, these have been mainly caught on live bait
and lures.
SUNSHINE
COAST
The
same as the Gold Coast as far as offshore fishing goes, with the strong winds
limiting any outside trips. At Caloundra, inshore fishing has seen plenty of Black
Fish taken off the Boardwalk, on the incoming tide, Pelican Waters has seen
some quality GT’s taken on trolled lures and there has been some nice Jewies
caught along Curramundi Beach, things have been a bit quiet in the Maroochy and
Noosa Rivers, but there has been a few Bream and Flathead scattered throughout
both systems.

Fraser Island is still producing some reasonable
catches of Tailor, with some nice Whiting and Flathead in amongst them.

numbers of Yellowbelly taken from the edges on bait, and a few nice Cod landed
as well. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi
is fishing well, with plenty of Yellowbelly up to 5lb landed, within the town
reaches on lures, live worms and frozen saltwater yabbies, there are also
plenty of eel-tail catfish about, however the Cod have been a bit quiet. The
Dumeresq River at Texas has been a bit quiet, with small numbers of Yellowbelly
being landed on bait and no real reports of any Cod being caught. Yarramolong
Weir near Pampas has seen a few quality Yellowbelly caught on live worms.
Glenlyon Dam has seen some nice Yellowbelly and Cod landed, these fish have
mainly been in deeper water and using live bait has produced the most fish. Coolmunda
has again produced a few nice Yellowbelly on bait, around the timber, there has
also been good numbers of eel-tail catfish about. And at Leslie Dam, it’s
taking a bit of hard work to land a Yellowbelly, with only low numbers of fish
being landed on frozen Saltwater Yabbies and live worms.

Due to very
rough conditions over the past week, offshore fishing has been pretty much non
existant. The Tweed River has produced some quality Flathead in the
Cobaki Lakes area, with a few Bream thrown in the mix, the river mouth has also
seen a few Bream about, as well as some small Tailor and if you like chasing
Mulloway, there has been some nice fish landed around Barney’s Point bridge,
while up around Southport, fishing the run out tide has seen good numbers of quality Flathead, Tailor
and Trevelly taken in the Seaway, these have been mainly caught on live bait
and lures.
SUNSHINE
COAST
The
same as the Gold Coast as far as offshore fishing goes, with the strong winds
limiting any outside trips. At Caloundra, inshore fishing has seen plenty of Black
Fish taken off the Boardwalk, on the incoming tide, Pelican Waters has seen
some quality GT’s taken on trolled lures and there has been some nice Jewies
caught along Curramundi Beach, things have been a bit quiet in the Maroochy and
Noosa Rivers, but there has been a few Bream and Flathead scattered throughout
both systems.
HERVEY BAY
Fraser Island is still producing some reasonable
catches of Tailor, with some nice Whiting and Flathead in amongst them.

FISHING REPORT – 19-07-2012
BASS
Cressbrook has
seen some good quality Bass caught around the points in the dam, Soft Plastics
on ¼ ounce jigheads have landed the most fish. Very similar to last week in the
South Burnett area, at Boondooma Dam, try fishing the rocky points and edges
around Balancing Rock, The Junction and Pelican Point, using soft plastics,
Blades and Jackall mask vibes, and if you can find the schooled fish, ice jigs
and jigging Mask Vibes have produced some good catches as well. Bjelke Peterson
dam has produced some small Bass using bait around the timbered area. A few
more fish starting to show up in Somerset this past week, and there is the odd
smaller school starting to form as well, try targeting these fish with soft plastics
and ice jigs and you should land a few, but it is still hard work. The best
areas have been from Beams Creek right through to Queen Street.
YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby Dam has
been relatively quiet this week, due to the poor weather. In Boondooma Dam, good yellowbelly
are being caught using live shrimp as well as trolling dark coloured
Spinnerbaits around rocky edges near the junction and at
the start of
the Stuart timber. Try trolling hard bodies just off the bottom in a depth
range of 16ft – 25ft. Still much the same as the past few weeks at Bjelke Peterson Dam, with some nice
Yellowbelly and Silver Perch caught in the timbered area of the dam, with trolled
lures and live bait still proving to be the best. The upper reaches of the Macintyre
River at Goondiwindi has produced small numbers of Cod, which have been taken
mainly on Spinnerbaits and hard body lures, the number of Yellowbelly and
Silver Perch landed within the town reaches has dropped a bit due to a rise in
the river, however if you put the effort in, there is certainly fish there to
be caught, live bait again, has proven to be the most successful. The Dumeresq
River at Texas has been a little slow, with small numbers of Yellowbelly being
landed on bait. Glenlyon Dam saw a couple of cracking Cod up around the 40lb
mark, there has also been some nice Yellowbelly landed as well, these fish have
mainly been in deeper water and using live bait has produced the most fish. Coolmunda
has again produced a few nice Yellowbelly on bait, around the timber, but the
Cod have been a bit quiet. And at Leslie Dam, it’s taking a bit of hard work to
land a Yellowbelly, with only low numbers of fish being landed on frozen
Saltwater Yabbies and live worms.
GOLD COAST AND TWEED
Offshore
fishing has been a bit restricted to the closer reefs, with Snapper, Squire and
Spangled Emperor taken anywhere from the inner reefs to the 24’s, and for
anyone who has ventured out further, there has been some quality Cobia,
Pearlies and Trag Jew. The Tweed River has seen Black Fish and Bream around
the rock walls and bridges, some nice Flathead in the upper reaches on live
bait and a few on soft plastics, Mulloway around the headlands and a few Tailor
and Salmon off the beaches, while up around Southport, fishing the run out tide
has seen good numbers of quality
Flathead throughout the Broadwater and around the Pin and the Seaway entrance
has produced good numbers of Tailor and Salmon, the odd King Fish, as well as
heaps of School Jew around the 60-65cm mark.
SUNSHINE COAST
Offshore
fishing has produced reasonable numbers of Snapper around Sunshine and North
Reefs. At Caloundra, inshore fishing has seen some big Flathead caught off the
Boardwalk and just inside the bar entrance, a few Bream also around Jetty’s and
any structure, Whiting are scattered throughout the area and plenty of Flathead
in the passage, in the Maroochy River, Bream throughout the passage and some
nice Whiting at Golden Beach, the Noosa and Maroochy River’s have seen some
decent Jewies landed and there’s been plenty of Flathead and smaller G.T’s
about, while the gutters off the beaches have produced some nice Bream and
Tailor.
HERVEY BAY
Fraser Island has been a bit patchy when it comes to
Tailor, there have been a few about, and for anyone heading that way, with a
bit of hard work you will get your bag limit, there has also been some big
Whiting landed as well.

FISHING REPORT – 12-07-2012
BASS
Cressbrook Dam,
reports on the fishing in this dam have been limited, use your sounder in the
deeper water, out from points to locate the fish and target these with Jackall
Mask Vibes, Thready Busters and Soft Plastics. Very similar to last week in the
South Burnett area, at Boondooma Dam, try fishing the rocky points and edges
around Balancing Rock, The Junction and Pelican Point, using soft plastics,
Blades and Jackall mask vibes, and if you can find the schooled fish, ice jigs
have produced some good catches as well. Bjelke Peterson dam has produced some
small Bass using bait and small blades, casting towards the edges and around
the timber has proven effective for these fish. Somerset has been a bit over
100% full, which has seen good numbers of Bass coming off the deeper edges,
working Jackalls and Spinnerbaits close to the bottom, there has also been a
few smaller fish caught on ice jigs in 20-30ft of water. The best spots have
been Queen Street, Beams Creek and the Pelican Point area.

produced a few Yellowbelly in the deeper parts of the dam, frozen Saltwater
Yabbies and live Shrimp have landed the most fish and there are still a few
jewies coming off the banks on live worms. In Boondooma Dam, the
Yellowbelly are still coming out of 16-25 feet of water on trolled hard bodies
and the timbered area of the Stuart arm has seen a few good size fish landed,
with live shrimp landing the most fish, and if you use the same methods in the
same areas as with the Bass, you will pick up some Yellowbelly as well. Very
much a carbon copy of last week, at Bjelke Peterson Dam, with some nice Yellowbelly and
Silver Perch caught in the timbered area of the dam, trolled lures and live

reopened on Tuesday morning, after being closed due to inflows into the dam
last week. Reports on the fishing in this dam have been limited, use your
sounder in the deeper water, out from points to locate the fish and target
these with Jackall Mask Vibes, Thready Busters and Soft Plastics. Boondooma Dam,
try fishing the rocky points and edges around Balancing Rock, The Junction and
Pelican Point, using soft plastics, Spinnerbaits and Jackall mask vibes, and in
the deeper water, ice jigs have produced some good catches of fish as well. Bjelke
Peterson dam has produced some small Bass using bait and small blades, casting
towards the edges and around the timber has proven effective for these fish.
