FISHING REPORT – 05-07-2012

BASS

Cressbrook Dam
reopened on Tuesday morning, after being closed due to inflows into the dam
last week. Reports on the fishing in this dam have been limited, use your
sounder in the deeper water, out from points to locate the fish and target
these with Jackall Mask Vibes, Thready Busters and Soft Plastics. Boondooma Dam,
try fishing the rocky points and edges around Balancing Rock, The Junction and
Pelican Point, using soft plastics, Spinnerbaits and Jackall mask vibes, and in
the deeper water, ice jigs have produced some good catches of fish as well. Bjelke
Peterson dam has produced some small Bass using bait and small blades, casting
towards the edges and around the timber has proven effective for these fish.
Somerset is still pretty quiet at the moment, with very little being reported from there.

YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby has again
produced a few Yellowbelly in the deeper parts of the dam, frozen Saltwater
Yabbies and live Shrimp have landed the most fish and there has been a few
jewies caught of the banks on live worms. In Boondooma Dam, the
Yellowbelly are still coming out of 16-25 feet of water on trolled hard bodies
and the timbered area of the Stuart arm has seen a few good size fish landed,
with live shrimp landing the most fish. Very much a carbon copy of last week,
at Bjelke Peterson
Dam, with some nice Yellowbelly and Silver Perch caught in the timbered area of
the dam, trolled lures and live bait have been the best. The fishing has been a
bit quiet in the St.George area, but the Ballone River has produced a few nice
Yellowbelly and Silver Perch. Despite a slight rise in the Macintyre River at
Goondiwindi, there has again been good numbers of Yellowbelly as well as a few
Eel-Tailed Catfish landed within the town reaches, a mix of bait and lures have
proven to be successful, there is still a few nice Cod being landed on trolled
deep diving lures. The Dumeresq River has seen a few smaller Cod caught casting
Spinnerbaits around any sort of structure or snags, there has also been the odd
Yellowbelly landed on bait. Glenlyon Dam has seen a few Cod on the move and
some nice Yellowbelly have been caught near the timber and around the edges on
bait. Coolmunda has produced some nice Yellowbelly off the banks on frozen
saltwater yabbies and live worms, while the Cod have been a bit quiet in the
dam itself, they have been quite active in the creeks above and below the dam.
And at Leslie Dam, there has been a few Yellowbelly taken on frozen saltwater
yabbies, and there has been some good numbers of Jewies landed, with live worms
and frozen prawns being the best baits.

GOLD COAST AND TWEED

No reports this
week as far as offshore fishing goes. At the Tweed, inshore fishing has
produced good numbers of Chopper Tailor and School Jew around the rock walls at
the river mouth, some nice Flathead still in the Lakes area, due to a fresh in
the river the Bream have gone a bit quiet, however they are best targeted on
the high tide, while up around Southport the fishing has been pretty good, with
soft plastics and metal jigs working well for Tailor and Flathead throughout
the broadwater, also good numbers of Flathead near the creek mouths, while
Whiting have been caught in large numbers, on the run in tide, near Crab
Island.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore
fishing has produced reasonable numbers of Cobia and Snapper around 5 Mile and
Currumundi Reefs. At Caloundra, inshore fishing has seen some nice Bream and
Luderick caught off the Boardwalk, Squire and Sweetlip on the ebb tide, off the
rocks at Shelly and Moffat Beaches and some nice Flathead around the Coastguard
and Military Jetty, in the Maroochy River, Tailor off the rocks and some good
reports of large Bream and Whiting in the creeks and also off the beaches,
while at Noosa, quality Bream around the dredges and new rock wall at the mouth
of the river, and good numbers of Flathead have been caught throughout the
river on live bait and soft plastics.
