Fishing Report 12-07-2012

FISHING REPORT – 12-07-2012

BASS

Cressbrook Dam,
reports on the fishing in this dam have been limited, use your sounder in the
deeper water, out from points to locate the fish and target these with Jackall
Mask Vibes, Thready Busters and Soft Plastics. Very similar to last week in the
South Burnett area, at Boondooma Dam, try fishing the rocky points and edges
around Balancing Rock, The Junction and Pelican Point, using soft plastics,
Blades and Jackall mask vibes, and if you can find the schooled fish, ice jigs
have produced some good catches as well. Bjelke Peterson dam has produced some
small Bass using bait and small blades, casting towards the edges and around
the timber has proven effective for these fish. Somerset has been a bit over
100% full, which has seen good numbers of Bass coming off the deeper edges,
working Jackalls and Spinnerbaits close to the bottom, there has also been a
few smaller fish caught on ice jigs in 20-30ft of water. The best spots have
been Queen Street, Beams Creek and the Pelican Point area.

YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby has again
produced a few Yellowbelly in the deeper parts of the dam, frozen Saltwater
Yabbies and live Shrimp have landed the most fish and there are still a few
jewies coming off the banks on live worms. In Boondooma Dam, the
Yellowbelly are still coming out of 16-25 feet of water on trolled hard bodies
and the timbered area of the Stuart arm has seen a few good size fish landed,
with live shrimp landing the most fish, and if you use the same methods in the
same areas as with the Bass, you will pick up some Yellowbelly as well. Very
much a carbon copy of last week, at Bjelke Peterson Dam, with some nice Yellowbelly and
Silver Perch caught in the timbered area of the dam, trolled lures and live
bait have been the best. The upper reaches of the Macintyre River at Goondiwindi
has been producing a few nice Cod, which have been taken on Spinnerbaits and
hard body lures, there has again been good numbers of Yellowbelly and Silver
Perch landed within the town reaches, live bait has proven to be the most
successful. The Dumeresq River at Texas has been a little slow, with small
numbers of Yellowbelly being landed on bait. Glenlyon Dam has seen a few Cod
caught in the deeper parts of the dam, using downriggers to get the lures down
to where the fish are, and some nice Yellowbelly have been caught near the timber
and around the edges on Spinnerbaits and Jackalls. Coolmunda has produced some
nice Yellowbelly on bait, around the timber, while trolling in the deeper water
has produced a few Cod. And at Leslie Dam, there has been a few Yellowbelly
taken on frozen saltwater yabbies, and there has been some good numbers of
Jewies landed, with live worms and frozen prawns being the best baits.

GOLD COAST AND TWEED

Offshore
fishing has been a bit restricted to the closer reefs, with Snapper, Squire and
Spangled Emperor taken, anywhere from the inner reefs to the 24’s. At the
Tweed, inshore
fishing has seen Luderick around the rock walls, Bream throughout the river,
some nice Flathead up to 90cm being landed, mainly on live bait and a few on
soft plastics, Mulloway under the bridges and a few Tailor off the beaches,
while up around Southport, there has been good numbers of Flathead around
Kalinga Banks and some quality Bream and Trevelly at the Seaway entrance.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore
fishing has produced reasonable numbers of Red Throat Emperor and Snapper
around Sunshine and North Reefs. At Caloundra, inshore fishing has seen some
nice Bream and Luderick caught off the Boardwalk, a few Bream also around
Jetty’s and any structure, Whiting are scattered throughout the area and plenty
of Flathead in the passage, in the Maroochy River, a few Bream and heaps of
Garfish about, while at Noosa, quality Bream, and good numbers of Flathead have
been caught throughout the river on live bait and soft plastics and there has
been some nice Trevelly taken near the river mouth.

HERVEY BAY

The outer reefs are producing a few large reef fish,
while the Tailor season has started well on Fraser, with good reports of some
nice fish being landed.
