FISHING REPORT   –   28-04-2016

COOBY AND CRESSBROOK OPENING HOURS

From this Sunday, Cooby and Cressbrook Dam’s opening hours will change to their winter times of 7am - 6pm, these opening hours will be in place until 1st September.

BASS

Cressbrook has produced some good quality Bass to 50cm this past week; spinnerbaits and tailspinners have been working well, while the bigger fish have been in the Bull Creek arm. There’s also plenty of Bass out from the boat ramp, although these are smaller fish. In Boondooma Dam, Spinnerbaits and Jackalls worked around the weed edges and also in the timbered areas of both arms has produced good numbers, while ice jigs have picked up a few deeper schooled fish. Trolling spinnerbaits and Jackalls on the flats out from Bass Point and also along the old creek bed out from the boat ramp has been effective at Bjelke Peterson.  Somerset Dam has again seen some decent Bass taken on the flats at Kirkleigh and Queen Street, soft vibes, tailspinners and spinnerbaits have picked up the majority of these fish and Moogerah has again produced decent numbers in the timbered area, as well as the flats just out from the day use boat ramp, spinnerbaits, soft plastics and soft vibes have worked the best on these fish.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has again seen low numbers of Yellowbelly over the past week, frozen saltwater yabbies, live shrimp and vertically jigged blades worked the best, just out from the dam wall buoy line has been the best spot to target. Boondooma Dam has seen good numbers of quality Yellowbelly in the timbered area of the Boyne arm, with bait and spinnerbaits working well on those fish, while at Bjelke Peterson, trolling hard bodies or using bait around the points, drop-offs and also in the timber has proven successful. Leslie Dam was quiet, particularly once the wind picked up on Sunday; prior to this, there was only a few Yellowbelly landed from the southern bank near the Washpool Camping Reserve and campers also managed to land some big catfish on worms. Glenlyon was also very wind affected, but it did produce low numbers of Yellowbelly, frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp were effective, there’s also been a few Cod taken on trolled hard bodies and they have mainly been around the 80-85cm mark. As for the rivers, pretty quiet on the Macintyre, Dumeresq and Condamine Rivers, however the Severn produced quite a few Cod on spinnerbaits and surface lures.

COASTAL FISHING

Not much to report as far as offshore goes, on both coasts. Inshore at the Gold Coast has seen Flathead and Bream at the Aldershots and Kalinga Bank, Jewies and Trevally along the northern wall of the Seaway on the incoming tide and there’s still a few Muddies about the creeks. While at the Sunny Coast, inshore fishing at Caloundra has produced Bream off the boardwalk, quality Flathead at the bar entrance, on the run out tide, smaller Trevally in the Pelican Waters canals. The Maroochy River has seen Trevally and Jewies at the Cod Hole, the Noosa River has produced Bream and Whiting in the upper reaches, while Trevally and Queenfish have been taking live Herring along the rock walls.
