FISHING REPORT – 14-04-2016
BASS
Somerset Dam has produced good numbers of Bass this
week, with some quality fish getting about, fishing the flats at Kirkleigh and
Queen Street have been the best spots to target, Mask Vibes and Tailspinners
have worked well early morning and late afternoon, while trolled, blue coloured
hard bodies have been the go during the day. Some better fish at Cressbrook
this week as well, the Bull Creek arm has seen the most action, with
spinnerbaits picking up fish around the toilet block point and also the left
bank just through the buoy line. Boondooma has again seen decent Bass getting
about throughout the dam, slow rolled vibes or tailspinners worked around
Pelican Point has worked well, trolling spinnerbaits at the junction and
working them around the timber has also been effective. Bjelke Peterson is
still fishing well; Bass Point has been a hot spot, casting Jackalls and
smaller spinnerbaits to the edges early morning and then trolling brighter
spinnerbaits and hard bodies in deeper water, later in the day, has worked well.
Moogerah Dam has seen some fish taking fast worked spinnerbaits around the
timber and Maroon Dam has produced some quality Bass over the past week,
targeting the weed edges with soft plastics and live shrimp has given the best
results.
YELLOWBELLY AND COD
Cooby Dam is still producing a few Yellowbelly,
trolling hard bodies, or using bait along the deeper weed edges has worked well
and late afternoon has still been the best time to head out here. Glenlyon has
fished well this week, with plenty of Cod from 75 - 95cm taking spinnerbaits,
worked close to the timber and look in 15ft of water for some good Yellowbelly
and Silver Perch. Lures have worked well at Coolmunda this week; working them
close to the bottom has been successful, frozen saltwater yabbies and live
worms have also been effective. Leslie Dam fished
reasonably well in the latter part of the week and into the weekend; frozen
saltwater yabbies proved to be the best option for the bait anglers, with a few
Yellowbelly being landed, the deeper parts of the main basin produced the most,
with some nice fish taking darker coloured TN60 Jackalls and ZX40 Blades,
worked close to the bottom. Both Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have
produced good numbers of fish, mainly around the timbered parts, with
spinnerbaits, trolled hard bodies, live shrimp and frozen salt water yabbies
proving to be popular in these dams. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondi
has fired up, with plenty of Yellowbelly and Cod taking spinnerbaits and hard
bodies, through the town reaches, the Dumeresq has a small run in it at the
moment, due to releases out of Glenlyon; this has seen surface lures working
well early morning/late afternoon, while spinnerbaits and hard bodies have
worked through the day and the Condamine River continues to fish well for
Yellowbelly and Cod, with most of the weirs and popular holes, throughout the
system again proving to be quite productive.
COASTAL FISHING
Offshore fishing this past week has seen Cobia taking
live bait on the closer artificial reefs and out wider; the northern 36’s has
been firing for some big Kingies and Amberjack. Plenty of Jewies off the Seaway
wall, on live bait, good numbers of Flathead on soft plastics and trolled lures
throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin, quality Bream around the bridges and
pontoons throughout the Nerang River and good numbers of Tailor around Crusoe
Island. At the Sunny Coast, offshore
fishing has seen the closer reefs fishing well for Grassy Sweetlip and Coral
Trout, Spaniards on the 12 Mile, Pearl Perch getting about the 30-40m mark and
plenty of Mac and Long Tail Tuna throughout Moreton Bay, while inshore fishing
has seen plenty of Whiting around the Power Boat Club, big Bream and Flathead
on soft plastics, off Military Jetty and around the mouth of the Maroochy
River, Trevelly and Mangrove Jack at night, under the bridges in the Pelican
Waters canals and in the Noosa River, Trevally are hitting surface poppers on
the flats, while Jewies and Flathead, have been taking live bait around the
river mouth.
