COOBY AND CRESSBROOK OPENING HOURS
From this Sunday, Cooby and Cressbrook Dam’s opening hours will change to their winter times of 7am - 6pm, these opening hours will be in place until 1st September.

BASS
Cressbrook has produced some good quality Bass to 50cm this past week; spinnerbaits and tailspinners have been working well, while the bigger fish have been in the Bull Creek arm. There’s also plenty of Bass out from the boat ramp, although these are smaller fish. In Boondooma Dam, Spinnerbaits and Jackalls worked around the weed edges and also in the timbered areas of both arms has produced good numbers, while ice jigs have picked up a few deeper schooled fish. Trolling spinnerbaits and Jackalls on the flats out from Bass Point and also along the old creek bed out from the boat ramp has been effective at Bjelke Peterson.  Somerset Dam has again seen some decent Bass taken on the flats at Kirkleigh and Queen Street, soft vibes, tailspinners and spinnerbaits have picked up the majority of these fish and Moogerah has again produced decent numbers in the timbered area, as well as the flats just out from the day use boat ramp, spinnerbaits, soft plastics and soft vibes have worked the best on these fish.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD
Cooby Dam has again seen low numbers of Yellowbelly over the past week, frozen saltwater yabbies, live shrimp and vertically jigged blades worked the best, just out from the dam wall buoy line has been the best spot to target. Boondooma Dam has seen good numbers of quality Yellowbelly in the timbered area of the Boyne arm, with bait and spinnerbaits working well on those fish, while at Bjelke Peterson, trolling hard bodies or using bait around the points, drop-offs and also in the timber has proven successful. Leslie Dam was quiet, particularly once the wind picked up on Sunday; prior to this, there was only a few Yellowbelly landed from the southern bank near the Washpool Camping Reserve and campers also managed to land some big catfish on worms. Glenlyon was also very wind affected, but it did produce low numbers of Yellowbelly, frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp were effective, there’s also been a few Cod taken on trolled hard bodies and they have mainly been around the 80-85cm mark. As for the rivers, pretty quiet on the Macintyre, Dumeresq and Condamine Rivers, however the Severn produced quite a few Cod on spinnerbaits and surface lures.

COASTAL FISHING
Not much to report as far as offshore goes, on both coasts. Inshore at the Gold Coast has seen Flathead and Bream at the Aldershots and Kalinga Bank, Jewies and Trevally along the northern wall of the Seaway on the incoming tide and there’s still a few Muddies about the creeks. While at the Sunny Coast, inshore fishing at Caloundra has produced Bream off the boardwalk, quality Flathead at the bar entrance, on the run out tide, smaller Trevally in the Pelican Waters canals. The Maroochy River has seen Trevally and Jewies at the Cod Hole, the Noosa River has produced Bream and Whiting in the upper reaches, while Trevally and Queenfish have been taking live Herring along the rock walls.

BASS
Somerset Dam has produced good numbers of Bass this week, with some quality fish getting about, fishing the flats at Kirkleigh and Queen Street have been the best spots to target, Mask Vibes and Tailspinners have worked well early morning and late afternoon, while trolled, blue coloured hard bodies have been the go during the day. Some better fish at Cressbrook this week as well, the Bull Creek arm has seen the most action, with spinnerbaits picking up fish around the toilet block point and also the left bank just through the buoy line. Boondooma has again seen decent Bass getting about throughout the dam, slow rolled vibes or tailspinners worked around Pelican Point has worked well, trolling spinnerbaits at the junction and working them around the timber has also been effective. Bjelke Peterson is still fishing well; Bass Point has been a hot spot, casting Jackalls and smaller spinnerbaits to the edges early morning and then trolling brighter spinnerbaits and hard bodies in deeper water, later in the day, has worked well. Moogerah Dam has seen some fish taking fast worked spinnerbaits around the timber and Maroon Dam has produced some quality Bass over the past week, targeting the weed edges with soft plastics and live shrimp has given the best results.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD
Cooby Dam is still producing a few Yellowbelly, trolling hard bodies, or using bait along the deeper weed edges has worked well and late afternoon has still been the best time to head out here. Glenlyon has fished well this week, with plenty of Cod from 75 - 95cm taking spinnerbaits, worked close to the timber and look in 15ft of water for some good Yellowbelly and Silver Perch. Lures have worked well at Coolmunda this week; working them close to the bottom has been successful, frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms have also been effective. Leslie Dam fished reasonably well in the latter part of the week and into the weekend; frozen saltwater yabbies proved to be the best option for the bait anglers, with a few Yellowbelly being landed, the deeper parts of the main basin produced the most, with some nice fish taking darker coloured TN60 Jackalls and ZX40 Blades, worked close to the bottom. Both Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have produced good numbers of fish, mainly around the timbered parts, with spinnerbaits, trolled hard bodies, live shrimp and frozen salt water yabbies proving to be popular in these dams. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondi has fired up, with plenty of Yellowbelly and Cod taking spinnerbaits and hard bodies, through the town reaches, the Dumeresq has a small run in it at the moment, due to releases out of Glenlyon; this has seen surface lures working well early morning/late afternoon, while spinnerbaits and hard bodies have worked through the day and the Condamine River continues to fish well for Yellowbelly and Cod, with most of the weirs and popular holes, throughout the system again proving to be quite productive.

Plenty of Jewies off the Seaway wall, on live bait, good numbers of Flathead on soft plastics and trolled lures throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin, quality Bream around the bridges and pontoons throughout the Nerang River and good numbers of Tailor around Crusoe Island. Fishin Report 07-04-16

FISHING REPORT   – 07-04-2016

BASS
Kev Parke got this quality Murray Cod while fishing on the
Dumeresq River recently.
Cressbrook Dam has produced a few Bass on a variety of lures and bait, the fish are very scattered and if you manage to catch a few, the fish tend to shut down a bit. The main basin at Boondooma Dam has suffered a bit, due to the large amount of traffic over Easter, so the points and timbered areas in both arms of the dam have been the best spots to try for Bass. Casting Jackalls, Spinnerbaits and Plastics to the shallow edges has produced a few nice fish, and trolling hard bodies in 16 to 20 feet of water has been rewarding as well. At Bjelke Peterson, quite a few Bass have been caught around the 28 – 33 cm mark. They are being caught on a selection of live worms and live shrimp, while trolling brighter coloured spinnerbaits and hard bodies have picked up some bigger fish on the flats out from Bass Point. Somerset Dam has produced some quality Bass over the past week, with most of the bigger fish coming off the flats at Pelican Point and Queen Street, darker coloured tail spinners have picked up the most fish.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD.
Cooby Dam has produced low numbers of nice Yellowbelly and quite a few Jewies, frozen Saltwater Yabbies, live Shrimp and Worms have worked well for the bait anglers, while trolling hard bodies along the weed edges, right on sunset has produced as well. There’s still some decent Yellowbelly getting about at  Boondooma, the majority of fish are being caught trolling hard body lures in around 15-20 feet of water, as for the bait anglers, using live Shrimp and Worms in 30 feet of water has produced some quality fish, while both arms of the dam have been the better spots to target. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi, from the boat ramp to Boggabilla Weir has fished quite well, with some Yellowbelly and Cod caught on bait, trolled Spinnerbaits and hard bodies. Lipless crankbaits are starting to catch a few fish, while the town reaches of the river have quietened a little. Glenlyon has continued to fish reasonably well, with a few Cod, and Yellowbelly, being caught on both bait and lures, with spinnerbaits working the best for the Cod. Still low numbers of Yellowbelly and a few smaller Cod throughout Leslie Dam, with bait and lures both proving to be successful. Coolmunda has fished steady this week, with quite a few Yellowbelly and the odd Cod being caught on trolled hard bodies and live worms.

As far as the Redclaw dams go, Somerset, Boondooma and Cressbrook are all producing average numbers at the moment with overnight traps bringing in the most.

COASTAL FISHING
Offshore fishing at the Gold Coast has been rewarding on the inshore reefs this week, with some nice Spanish Mackerel caught on trolled deep divers and a few Wahoo and Blue Marlin coming off the outer reefs. Inshore fishing has seen metal slugs working well for Trevelly and Long Tail Tuna, along with the odd Mack Tuna off the walls of the Seaway, Whiting around the sand banks throughout the Broadwater and the Tweed River, quality Flathead throughout the Tweed and around the Pin on Plastics, a few scattered Tailor off the beaches and Jewies around the headlands. The Sunny Coast has seen plenty of Spotty and Spanish Mackerel on the troll, with a few Coral Trout and Sweetlip on the closer inshore reefs. Inshore fishing has produced plenty of Flathead in the passage and at the bar entrance, quality Bream off the Boardwalk and in the deeper holes at Caloundra. Flathead, Trevelly and Jewies throughout the Noosa River, most of the canals have produced good numbers of Bream and Trevelly, a few Jewies off Kings Beach, while most of the other beaches have produced plenty of Whiting and Dart and there has been some decent catches of Muddies in the Pelican Waters canals.
