FISHING REPORT – 28-06-2012
BASS
Cressbrook Dam
has finally gone a bit quiet, after fishing well over the past few weeks, the
best thing to do, is use your sounder to find the fish and try targeting them
with soft vibes, soft plastics and bait. Boondooma Dam, try fishing the rocky
points and edges around Balancing Rock, The Junction and Pelican Point, using soft
plastics, Spinnerbaits and Jackall mask vibes, and in the deeper water, ice
jigs have produced some good catches of fish as well. Bjelke Peterson dam has
produced some small Bass, off the edges, casting ¼ oz Blades, Somerset has
again been quiet, you need to sound around and find the fish and then put in
the hard work, to try and get them to bite.
YELLOWBELLY AND
COD.
Cooby Dam has again
produced a few Yellowbelly in the deeper parts of the dam, frozen Saltwater
Yabbies and live Shrimp have landed the most fish and there has been a few
jewies caught of the banks. In Boondooma Dam, the Yellowbelly have been coming
out of 16-25 feet of water on trolled hard bodies and the timbered area of the
Stuart arm has seen a few good size fish landed, with casting Spinnerbaits and
using frozen saltwater yabbies proving to be the most successful methods.
Bjelke Peterson dam has produced
some nice Yellowbelly and Silver Perch in the timbered area of the dam, trolled
lures and live bait have been the best. The Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has
seen good numbers of Yellowbelly landed within the town reaches, frozen
saltwater yabbies, live Shrimp and Crays, as well as Jackalls and Spinnerbaits
have provided the most fish, some nice Cod have also been taken on trolled deep
diving lures, but be prepared for a fight, as the odd bigger fish has been lost
in the snags. The Dumeresq River has seen a few smaller Cod caught casting
Spinnerbaits around any sort of structure or snags, there has also been the odd
Yellowbelly landed on bait. A bit of a mixed bag this week at Glenlyon Dam,
with Cod from 65-75cm and Yellowbelly ftrom 30-40cm taking a variety of lures,
spinnerbaits and bait. Coolmunda has produced a few Yellowbelly, Jew and Silver
Perch on frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms, while the Cod have been a bit
quiet. And at Leslie Dam, there has been a few Yellowbelly taken on, frozen
saltwater yabbies spinnerbaits and bibless crankbaits around the timber, there
has also been a few smaller Cod caught, but to many have been legal length.
GOLD COAST AND TWEED
Offshore
fishing has been a bit quiet this week with a few Snapper and the odd Cobia
landed on the 24’s and 36’s . At the Tweed, inshore fishing has
produced good numbers of Chopper Tailor and Trevelly around the river mouth,
some nice Flathead to 70cm in the Lakes area, good numbers of School Jew at
Hastings Point and really good catches of Bream around the rock walls and other
structure, while up around Southport the fishing has been pretty good, with the
seaway producing Tailor, Bream and small Mulloway, plenty of quality Flathead
in the Jumpinpin area on soft plastics, with smaller fish coming on bait and
Tipplers Passage has fished well for Gar and Squid around the weed banks.
SUNSHINE COAST
Venturing
out wide has produced some quality reef fish with Spangled Emporer up to 6kg
and Snapper to 9kg providing anglers with some great fishing. At Caloundra, inshore
fishing has seen some nice Bream and Blackfish caught off the Boardwalk and a
few Tailor off Kings Beach, in the Maroochy River, plenty of Trevelly at the
entrance and Gar, Bream and Flathead throughout the river, while at Noosa, the
river mouth and creeks have produced good numbers of Whiting, Bream and
Flathead and it’s worth trying live bait in the deeper holes for some quality
Mulloway.
