Fishing Report 29-09-16

FISHING REPORT   – 29-09-2016

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has seen some quality fish getting about this week; they’re not going off at the moment, but if you put in the time, you should pick up a few, the upper reaches of the Bull Creek arm and the camp ground point have been the best spots to target, while Tailspinners, spoons, trolled hard bodies and live shrimp have worked the best. Somerset Dam has continued to produce good numbers of Bass this week, The Spit, Kirkleigh and the Pelican Point areas have been the best spots to target, with spoons, Tailspinners and metal slugs proving to be effective and live shrimp have again been productive for the bait anglers. Boondooma has again seen some decent Bass getting about throughout the dam, spinnerbaits, tailspinners, ice jigs and trolled hard bodies are all working well, while Leizagangs, the junction and Pelican Point have been the best spots to target, and both Maroon and Moogerah are fishing quite well at the moment, with good number of Bass landed at Maroon, casting spinnerbaits and suspending minnows to the edges and weed pockets has given the best results, while at Moogerah, fishing in the timber towards the southern end of the dam has been the best.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam is still producing decent numbers of Yellowbelly, targeting the fish just outside the weed beds is working well, while frozen saltwater yabbies, smaller trolled hard bodies and jigged blades have been the most effective. Glenlyon continues to fish well, with good numbers of Cod up to 80cm hitting bigger trolled hard bodies, while working blades, lipless crankbaits and small hard bodies over the newly covered banks, has been the best for the Yellowbelly. Working the top end of the dam, has been successfull at Coolmunda this week, with good numbers of yellowbelly hitting reaction lures, like TN60 Jackalls and spinnerbaits. Leslie Dam has seen Yellowbelly taking live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies in 30-40ft of water and casting reaction lures around structure at the top end of the dam has been effective as well. Boondooma continues to produce good numbers of fish through the main basin on jigged blades and trolled hard bodies, while Bjelke Peterson hasn’t fished quite as well, although there are still reasonable numbers taking bait and trolled hard bodies in 15-20ft of water. As for the rivers, not much to report on these, due to the fresh running through them at the moment.

GOLD COAST

Offshore fishing this past week has seen Pearl Perch, Snapper and Kingies on the northern 36’s and 50’s, while the 18’s and 24’s have produced Cobia, Tailor and Trag Jew. Inshore fishing has seen Flathead, Tailor and Jewies taking live bait in the Seaway, inside the Jumpinpin Bar has produced Jewies and Flathead on soft plastics, plenty of Whiting in the Nerang River, a few Jacks are starting to show up around Sovereign Island and the beaches have produced good numbers of Whiting and Dart. At the Sunny Coast; the inner reefs have produced Snapper and mixed bags of reef fish, the wider reefs have produced Cobia, Yellowtail Kingfish and bigger 5-6kg Snapper, while inshore fishing has seen plenty of Whiting in the Passage, Bream, Whiting and Flathead of the Boardwalk, a mixed variety of Trevally in the Mooloolah River, Tailor and Dart off most beaches and in the Noosa River, the upper reaches are producing good numbers of Mangrove Jack and Mulloway, while Trevally and bigger Flathead, have been taking live bait around the river mouth, on the incoming tide.
