FISHING REPORT   – 30-06-2016

BASS
There’s still some good shows of fish at Cressbrook Dam at the moment; although they have been a bit harder to catch, particularly for the lure anglers, the steeper points in the main basin and around the Eagles Nest area have been good places to look, while live shrimp, soft plastics and tail spinners will give the best chance of landing a couple. Nothing much has changed at Somerset, with live shrimp picking up a few fish around the timber at Kirkleigh. The Bass have moved into deeper water at Boondooma this week, try working mask vibes, blades and soft plastics through these fish for the best results, there’s also the odd fish still on the edges, with suspending lures picking up most of these, at Bjelke Peterson, blades, mask vibes and live shrimp fished around Bass Point have produced good numbers. Moogerah has produced a few Bass on soft plastics throughout the main basin, as well as in the timber to the west of the day use boat ramp, 25-35ft of water seems to be a good depth to work in, it’s also worth trying around the weed edges early morning and late afternoon with soft plastics and crank baits and Maroon Dam has produced a few fish again this week, with anglers picking up some decent Bass around the weed pockets, soft plastics and crank baits are still working well, and blades have also accounted for a few fish.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD
Not a lot has changed at Cooby Dam this week, there has been a few Yellowbelly taking blades and frozen saltwater yabbies in the deeper parts of the dam, while blades and soft vibes have again produced a few fish around the weed edges, early morning and late afternoon. Not a lot has changed at Glenlyon this week; trolled hard bodies, frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms have been effective for Yellowbelly, with some nice Cod up to 100cm taken on bigger trolled hard bodies and spinnerbaits. A bit quiet at Leslie Dam again this week, with low numbers of Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies in the main basin and blades worked slow and tight to the bottom have accounted for a few as well. Boondooma has seen good quality Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp, around the timber, in both arms and also in the deeper parts of the main basin. Bait has been the better option at Bjelke Peterson this week, with live worms and frozen saltwater yabbies picking up a few around the steeper banks and also the timber. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has seen frozen saltwater yabbies picking up the odd Yellowbelly, the Dumeresq at Texas has produced a few Cod up to 90cm, mainly on surface lures and mainly early in the morning while frozen saltwater yabbies have picked up a few Yellowbelly and the Condamine River is still quite dirty at the moment, so it’s a matter of waiting until it clears and the fishing starts to pick up.

COASTAL FISHING
Offshore fishing has been fairly good again at the Gold Coast this week, with the 36’s and 50’s producing good numbers of Pearl Perch, Snapper and Kingies; there’s also a few Snapper in a bit closer on the 18’s and 24’s. Inshore fishing has seen the entrance to the Southport Seaway producing Mulloway and Tailor on the incoming tide; quality Flathead and Mulloway at the Jumpinpin Bar and Gar have been prominent on the weed banks around Crab Island. While at the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; plenty of Snapper, Pearl Perch and Cobia on 5, 8 and 12 Mile Reef’s. Inshore fishing has seen plenty of big Bream throughout the Passage, a few winter Whiting getting about; plenty of Bream, Flathead and Jewies throughout the Maroochy and Noosa Rivers and the beaches are producing Tailor and Dart in most of the gutters.
