BASS
Cressbrook Dam has again produced some quality Bass this
past week, however, they are getting a bit harder to catch and a few smaller
fish are starting to show up, using soft
plastics and blades near the Eagles Nest and Deer Island, and using bait in the
Bull Creek arm have all been effective methods. Boondooma Dam has produced
reasonable amounts of Bass, working blades, trolling hard bodies or using live
Shrimp around the points throughout the dam and also around the timber in the
Stuart and Boyne arms has been very effective and using Ice Jigs on schooled
fish in deeper water, around the junction and in the main basin, has been quite
good as well. Bjelke Peterson has produced a few fish around the points, while
working lures or using live shrimp around the timber has been good also, Moogerah
has produced again, with good numbers of Bass being landed over the past week,
targeting suspended fish in the main basin, and working plastics and blades
through them, has given the best results and Maroon has again seen good numbers
landed, working crank baits and blades along the weed edges will give the best
results.
YELLOWBELLY AND COD
Cooby Dam is still producing plenty of Yellowbelly at the
moment, looking in 30-40ft of water, out from the main point opposite the boat
ramp, and also out from the pontoon has been productive again, vertically
worked blades and frozen saltwater yabbies have provided the best results.
Boondooma Dam has again produced good numbers of quality Yellowbelly throughout
the dam, similar tactics as used for the Bass will give you success, while at
Bjelke Peterson, trolling hard bodies or using bait around the points,
drop-offs and also in the timber has proven successful. Coolmunda Dam produced
again this week, with a few Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies and
trolled lures, working the old creek bed at the southern end of the dam has
been a good spot to target, the upper reaches of the dam have produced some
quality Cod as well. Leslie Dam has continued to fish well over the past week,
with some quality Yellowbelly landed, working in 40ft of water out from
Washpool Reserve has been popular, there was also some nice fish caught up
around the Black Boys and frozen saltwater yabbies have been the pick of the
baits, there has also been a few Cod caught on trolled hard bodies. Glenlyon has
again produced good numbers of Yellowbelly, frozen saltwater yabbies, live
shrimp and trolled hard bodies have all been effective, there’s been a few Cod
about and they have mainly been around the 70-75cm mark. As for the rivers, the
Dumeresq at Texas has seen a few Yellowbelly and the odd undersize Cod taking
black and red or black and purple spinnerbaits; and locally, the Condamine has
continued to produce some decent catches, with most of the weirs and popular holes
producing fish on bait and lures.
COASTAL FISHING
Offshore fishing at the Gold Coast has continued to
produce Spanish Mackerel, on trolled lures at 1 Mile and Mermaid Reefs, Pearl
Perch on the northern 36’s and a few Mahi Mahi out wider, on the 50’s. Inshore
fishing has seen quite a few Jewies around the pipeline, at the spit; the weed
beds throughout the Broadwater are producing plenty of Squid and Gar, Bream are
starting to show up around the rock walls, Flathead at Kalinga Bank and a few
Muddies around the creek mouths. While at the Sunshine Coast, Spanish and
Spotty Mackerel are still about in big numbers on most of the reefs, Currumundi
Reef has produced Long Tail and Yellowfin Tuna, as well as a mixed bag of reef
fish, while inshore fishing at Caloundra has seen big Flathead at the bar
entrance, some good quality Bream starting to show up in the passage, quality
Whiting at night on the sand banks, Jacks and Trevally are biting on live bait
throughout the canals, and the Noosa River is fishing consistently for Bream,
Whiting and Flathead throughout, with some bigger Flathead around the Frying
Pan, and there’s been a few reports of big Jewies up to 10kg, taken off the
northern beaches.
