FISHING REPORT   – 31-10-2013

BASS

Somerset Dam has again seen a few fish landed this week; they are a bit tentative at the moment, so you have to work pretty hard for them. Bay13 and the Pelican Point area are the best spots, soft plastics, Blades and Mask Vibes have worked well on these fish, while Jackalls and Spinnerbaits have been successful around the timber at Kirkleigh. Cressbrook has produced low numbers of Bass, casting Blades and Spinnerbaits to the edges has produced a few fish, there are still a few schools in the Eagles Nest area, and these fish have been tempted by hopping Jackalls and blades through them. The upper reaches of the Stuart and Boyne arms of Boondooma Dam have again produced some nice Bass on Jackalls, Spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies. Casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits in the upper reaches, around the timber has produced some smaller Bass in Bjelke Peterson. Moogerah is fishing quite well, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon.  There has been a few legal sized Bass landed in the main basin just off the bank near the camping boat ramp on live shrimps.  Lure anglers are having the most success in the western part of the dam on a variety of lures, trolling along the timbered edges has also been successfull, and Maroon Dam has again seen some nice fish taking surface poppers, early morning and late afternoon, casting Jackalls and smaller Spinnerbaits around the weed edges has been effective as well.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Plenty of activity again, for Yellowbelly and Cod fishing this week, casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits to the edges, around the weed and structure, has been effective at Cooby, while frozen Saltwater Yabbies and live Shrimp have been a popular bait. Glenlyon has again seen plenty of Cod getting about, some decent sized fish have been hitting bigger Spinnerbaits in the timbered areas, Yellowbelly have also been quite active, trolled hard bodies, spinnerbaits, live shrimp and worms have worked well on these fish. At Coolmunda, trolling hard bodies along the drop-offs has worked well, while casting Jackalls and Spinnerbaits around the timber has been good also and using bait in these same areas has seen some decent fish landed as well, Leslie Dam has been fishing quite well over the past week, with some nice fish landed on both lures and bait, Power Bombs, Jackalls and trolling in the deeper water using deep diving lures has been effective, while some nice fish were also landed using blades. The bait Anglers also had success, mainly on salt water yabbies and shrimp.  There were also a few Cod landed over the weekend, Spinnerbaits cast around the timber was the best method for these fish, and in the South Burnett, both Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have again produced good numbers of Yellowbelly, in Boondooma, bait has been effective in the Stuart and Boyne arms and casting spinnerbaits around the timber in the upper reaches of the Stuart arm has produced some big fish as well, while at Bjelke Peterson, big Yellowbelly have been taking spinnerbaits around the timber.

GOLD COAST

Offshore fishing has been a bit quiet due to the windy conditions, however, there has been some quality Kingies and Sampson Fish hitting live bait on the northern 36’s. Inshore fishing has seen Trevally and Tailor taking surface poppers in the Seaway, late afternoon on the run in tide has been the best time, smaller numbers of Flathead throughout the Broadwater, Jack’s around structure in the Nerang River, plenty of Whiting on live Yabbies and Worms throughout the estuaries and some nice Bass have been landed in the upper reaches of the Coomera River.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing has again been a bit quiet this week, but there has been the odd Spotty Mackerel and small Black Marlin getting about and a few mixed bags of reef fish have come from the Barwon Banks. Inshore fishing has again seen a few Flathead and Bream taken off the Boardwalk, big Whiting throughout the passage, Mangrove Jack in Currumundi Lake, a few Mud Crabs in Bells Creek, while in the Noosa River, Trevally, Tarpon and Flathead have been active at the river mouth, 40-45cm Whiting are taking poppers in the shallows and prawns are everywhere throughout the system.
