Fishing Report 30-07-15

FISHING REPORT   – 30-07-2015

BASS

Still a bit quiet at Cressbrook this week, look for schooled fish out from the camp ground points, the Eagles Nest and also out from Deer Island and target them with soft plastics, soft vibes, ice jigs and blades, it’s definitely worth a try with live shrimp in those same areas. Nothing has changed at Boondooma this week, with the odd bass taken on ice jigs and blades throughout the main basin, the edges are still worth a try with blades and smaller spinnerbaits, early morning and late afternoon. Bjelke Peterson has been pretty good again this week, with good numbers of Bass taken on ice jigs and blades at the bottom end of the dam and working spinnerbaits and blades to the edges, from Bass Point right through to the wall has also produced a few, still a few fish taken on blades and soft plastics at Moogerah Dam and Maroon has produced low numbers, mainly on live shrimp, around the weed edges.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam is producing a few Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater yabbies, looking in about 40ft of water will give you the best chance. Good numbers of Cod on spinnerbaits at Glenlyon this week, 70cm has been about the biggest caught and some decent numbers of Yellowbelly and Silver Perch are taking worms and frozen saltwater yabbies. Coolmunda is still producing a few Yellowbelly on bait and Ecogear ZX Blades, in the deeper parts of the dam. There were a few Yellowbelly landed at Leslie this past week, anglers seemed to have the most success by vertically jigging blades, Jackall Mask Vibes also accounted for a few nice fish in the main basin and the bait anglers also had some success around the boulders across from the dam wall. Boondooma Dam has again seen plenty of Yellowbelly taking soft vibes and ice jigs in the main basin and also the timbered area of the Stuart arm, good numbers of Yellowbelly at Bjelke Peterson, with blades, soft vibes and frozen saltwater yabbies working the best. As for the rivers, the Macintyre River has seen good numbers of Cod hitting surface lures, shallow diving hard bodies and bigger spinnerbaits, quality Yellowbelly are still on the bite as well, the Dumeresq River, downstream of Texas has produced reasonable numbers of smaller Cod this week, spinnerbaits and surface lures have been effective there as well, and the upper reaches of the Condamine River, from Cecil Plains to Warwick have produced a few Cod and Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits, hard bodies and frozen saltwater yabbies.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has been pretty good at the Gold Coast this week, with Cobia and smaller Snapper taken around the 18’s and 24’s, Snapper and Pearl Perch on the 36’s, and out wider, Kingfish and Amberjack have been prominent on the 50’s, while inshore, has seen the Seaway fishing well for Trevally and Tailor, quality Flathead on soft plastics and small minnows, throughout the Jumpinpin area, and there’s still plenty of Bream hanging around the rock walls and pylons, throughout all of the estuaries.
At the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has seen the outer reefs fishing well for big Snapper and Pearl Perch, plenty of Squire and Tailor around Brays Rock, the inner reefs are producing smaller Snapper and the odd Tusk Fish and there’s still a few Spotty Mackerel getting about. Inshore fishing has produced Bream and Luderick off the Boardwalk and at the mouth of the Maroochy River, Winter Whiting on the sand flats, near the Powerboat Club, some decent size Flathead in Bells Creek, the Mooloolah River and also the Noosa River and the Noosa River has also produced Jacks, Golden Trevally and Jewies on live baits.

FRASER ISLAND

Anglers are starting to pick up a few Tailor and Dart in most of the gutters, particularly on the southern end of the island.

 

Fishing Report 23-07-15

FISHING REPORT   – 23-07-2015

BASS

Cressbrook has seen a few Bass taken on white tailspinners and soft plastics around Deer Island, there’s also been the odd larger fish taking blades in the Eagles Nest area. At Boondooma, the odd bass has been caught on ice jigs and blades throughout the main basin, the weed edges have produced fish early mornings on blades, while live shrimp have worked well at the start of the timber in the Boyne arm. Bjelke Peterson had a big improvement this week, with good numbers of Bass taken on ice jigs and blades at the bottom end of the dam and working spinnerbaits and blades to the edges, from Bass Point right through to the wall has also produced a few and Moogerah Dam saw a few fish taking soft plastics and soft vibes

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

A few Cod taken on spinnerbaits around The Caves at Glenlyon this week, but no big fish to report and a few Yellowbelly are taking worms and frozen saltwater yabbies. Coolmunda is still producing a few Yellowbelly on live shrimp around the timber and trolling hard bodies and spinnerbaits in the old creek bed has also worked quite well. Fishing at Leslie Dam has improved over the past week, with fairly good numbers of Yellowbelly being caught, live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies worked the best for the bait anglers, while the lure anglers experienced the best results using blades and mask vibes, out from the Ski Club, the Washpool, Cod Alley and opposite the dam wall were the pick of the spot. There were also a couple of legal size Murray Cod landed on spinnerbaits. Boondooma Dam has seen plenty of Yellowbelly taking soft vibes and ice jigs in the main basin and also the timbered area of the Stuart arm, plenty of Yellowbelly at Bjelke Peterson as well, with blades, soft vibes and frozen saltwater yabbies working the best. As for the rivers, the Dumeresq River at Texas has produced reasonable numbers of Cod this week on surface lures, and the Condamine River has produced a few Cod and Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits and frozen saltwater yabbies.

COASTAL FISHING
At the Gold Coast, offshore fishing has improved as the week progressed, with Snapper and Trag Jew taken on the 36’s, and out wider, Pearl Perch have been prominent on the 50’s, while inshore, has seen the Seaway fishing well for Bream and Flathead, early morning on the run in tide has been the best time and plenty of good quality Flathead and big Bream throughout the Jumpinpin and Bay Islands areas. While at the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has seen the outer reefs fishing well for Amberjack and Sweetlip and Snapper have been prominent in a bit closer. Inshore fishing has produced Bream off the Boardwalk and Flathead just inside the bar entrance at Caloundra, Bream, Trevally and School Jew in the upper reaches of the Maroochy River, the Noosa River has produced big Tailor and Trevally on metal lures, on the incoming tide and quality Flathead are taking soft plastics on the sand flats.

FRASER ISLAND

Much the same this week, with Dart and Whiting in the gutters at low tide and Chopper Tailor and Mulloway in the deeper holes along the eastern beaches.

 

FISHING REPORT   – 16-07-2015

BASS

Simon Saint landed this cracker of a
Saratoga at Boondooma Dam recently.

Cressbrook Dam fished well last week and into Saturday with some decent numbers of fish landed out from the point off the camp ground and across towards the yellow buoy, live shrimp provided the best results, but there was also a couple landed on soft plastics. A few fish are starting to show up at Somerset Dam, Pelican Point, Eagles Nest, Queen Street and the start of the timber at Kirkleigh are the better spots, with live shrimp also working the best at this dam. At Boondooma, the fish have moved from the edges and into the deeper water, try soft plastics and mask vibes around Pelican Point for the best results and at Maroon, the Bass have mainly been around the edges and weed pockets, with soft plastics and small suspending minnows proving to be the most effective.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Not a lot happening at Glenlyon this week, with only a couple of Yellowbelly taken on live shrimp. Coolmunda saw only a few Yellowbelly taken on bait around the timber. Leslie Dam didn’t see too much fishing in the latter part of the weekend and into the start of the week; angers who fished on Saturday landed some quality Yellowbelly on lures, in approximately 50ft of water, blades and soft vibes worked the best for the lure anglers, while shrimp worked the best for the bait anglers. There were also a couple of legal sized Murray Cod landed on trolled hard body lures in the main basin and the most successful spots were opposite the dam wall and near the Ski Club. Boondooma Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly and Silver Perch taken on live shrimp, Jackals and Spinnerbaits in the timbered areas of both arms of the dam. Bjelke Peterson produced low numbers of Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater yabbies around the timbered parts. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondi has produced Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater yabbies and a few Cod up to 70cm on cray tails, and the upper reaches of the Condamine River have produced a few Cod and Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits, hard bodies and frozen saltwater yabbies.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has been pretty good again, with Snapper, Cobia and Trag Jew taken on the 18’s and 24’s, and for anyone who has ventured out further, there has been a few Kingies, Amberjack and Pearl Perch on the 50’s, while inshore, has seen the Seaway fishing well for Jewies at night, Tailor, Trevally and Kingfish early morning, on the run in tide, quality Flathead at Kalinga Bank, Jewies and Tailor inside the Jumpinpin Bar and Squid and Gar are plentiful around the weed banks throughout the Broadwater, while at the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has seen the northern grounds producing some quality Sweetlip, Caloundra 12 mile has produced some good Snapper and the Barwon Banks and Caloundra Wide have been the places to go for a few Pearl Perch and Cobia. Inshore fishing has seen Gar starting to show up in the Mooloolah River, the entrance to Lake Weyba has been producing a few Flathead, the Woods Bay area has been good for a few Trevally and Tailor, the Passage and Pelican Waters have produced Bream and Flathead and on the beaches, Tailor have started to show up in reasonable size and numbers, Bream have also been worth chasing with some good quality fish being caught.

FRASER ISLAND

Dart and Whiting in the gutters at low tide and Chopper Tailor and Mulloway in the deeper holes along the eastern beaches.

 

 

FISHING REPORT   – 09-07-2015

BASS

There’s still some good shows of fish at Cressbrook Dam at the moment; although they have been a bit harder to catch, particularly for the lure anglers, the steeper points in the main basin and around the Eagles Nest area have been the best places to look, while live shrimp, soft plastics and tail spinners will give the best chance of landing a couple. Nothing much has changed at Somerset, with live shrimp picking up a few fish around the timber at Kirkleigh. Plenty of quality Bass up to 50cm plus at Boondooma this week, with spinnerbaits and Jackalls cast to the edges picking up a lot of the fish, while Blades and Tailspinners have worked well around Pelican Point, at Bjelke Peterson, blades cast to the edges around Bass Point and spinnerbaits worked around the start of the timber have produced good numbers. Moogerah is still producing good numbers of Bass on soft plastics, throughout the main basin, as well as in the timber to the west of the day use boat ramp, 25-35ft of water still seems to be a good depth to work in, it’s also worth trying around the weed edges early morning and late afternoon with spinnerbaits and crank baits and Maroon Dam has produced a few fish again this week, with anglers picking up some decent Bass around the weed pockets, soft plastics and crank baits are still working well, and blades have also accounted for a few fish.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

A bit quiet at Leslie Dam again this week, with low numbers of Yellowbelly and the odd Cod taking frozen saltwater yabbies in the main basin and trolled hard bodies accounted for a few Cod as well. Boondooma has seen good quality Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp, around the timber, in both arms and also in the deeper parts of the main basin. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has again seen a few Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits, while frozen saltwater yabbies have worked well for Yellowbelly and Silver Perch, the Dumeresq at Texas has seen spinnerbaits picking up a few Cod, while frozen saltwater yabbies have picked up good numbers of Yellowbelly and the Condamine River from Warwick through to Dalby has produced some good quality Cod and Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits, hard bodies and frozen saltwater yabbies.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has been fairly good again at the Gold Coast this week, with the 50’s southeast of the Seaway producing good numbers of Amberjack, Pearl Perch, Tusk Fish and Kingies. Inshore fishing has seen the Southport Seaway producing a few Kingies along the northern wall; quality Flathead and Bream around Wavebreak Island and throughout the Jumpinpin area and Squid have been prominent on the weed beds at night, throughout the broadwater. While at the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; plenty of Snapper and Grassy Sweetlip on 12 Mile Reef and the wider reefs have all produced plenty of Pearl Perch, Yellowfin Tuna and Jewies. Inshore fishing has seen Bream throughout the Passage, Whiting on the sand flats around the Power Boat Club; and plenty of Bream, Flathead and Jewies throughout the Maroochy and Noosa Rivers.

BASS

Still a few Bass around at Cressbrook Dam this week; it has produced a few fish on live Shrimp, off the steeper points in the main basin, while soft plastics and shrimp have been successful around the Eagles Nest area. Still quiet at Somerset, with live shrimp picking up a few fish around the timber at Kirkleigh. Plenty of quality Bass up to 50cm plus at Boondooma this week, with spinnerbaits and Jackalls cast to the edges picking up a lot of the fish, while Blades and Tailspinners have worked well on the flats, blades and live shrimp have picked up a few Bass at Bjelke Peterson, Moogerah is still producing a few Bass on soft plastics, throughout the main basin, in 25-35ft of water, it’s also worth trying around the weed edges early morning and late afternoon with spinnerbaits and crank baits and Maroon Dam has produced a few fish this week, with anglers picking up some decent Bass around the weed pockets, soft plastics and crank baits are working the best, with blades also accounting for a few fish.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Boondooma has seen good quality Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp, around the timber, in the Stuart River arm of the dam and Bjelke Peterson has seen a few fish taken on bait around the timber and also on trolled hard bodies in the main basin. As for the rivers, the Macintyre River, upstream of Goondiwindi has seen good numbers of Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits, while frozen saltwater yabbies have worked well for Yellowbelly up to 45cm in the town reaches, much the same for the Dumeresq at Texas, surface lures have been effective for Cod, while frozen saltwater yabbies have picked up good numbers of Yellowbelly and the upper reaches of the Condamine River have produced some good quality Cod and Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits, hard bodies and frozen saltwater yabbies.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has been good again at the Gold Coast, with the 18’s and 24’s east of the Seaway producing Snapper and Cobia and the northern 50’s have been good for Amberjack, Samson Fish and bigger Snapper. Inshore fishing saw the Southport Seaway producing a few Kingies, Tailor and Trevally on live baits, along the rock walls; quality Flathead and Bream throughout the Jumpinpin area and also throughout most of the estuaries at the Gold Coast. While at the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; plenty of Snapper and Cobia on 12 Mile Reef, Red Throat Sweetlip and Snapper at Caloundra wide and the wider reefs have all produced plenty of Pearl Perch and Trag Jew. Inshore fishing has seen Bream and Flathead off the Boardwalk, inside the bar entrance at Caloundra and also at the mouth of the Maroochy and Noosa Rivers, plenty of Trevally on surface lures and live bait throughout all of the estuaries and some decent Whiting have been caught on the sand flats around the Power Boat Club.

FISHING REPORT   – 25-06-2015

BASS

Family Affair!! Murray Janke and his son Ben landed
these healthy Cod on a recent trip into the New England area!!

A bit quieter at Cressbrook this week, but it’s still worth a look out off Deer Island, around the steeper points throughout the main basin and also from the Eagles Nest through to the buoy line in the Cressbrook Creek arm, if you find fish, try targeting them with smaller hard bodies, soft plastics and blades and live shrimp are always a good option out there. Not a lot has changed at Somerset, using bait around the timber at Kirkleigh is still the best option. The fishing was fairly tough at Boondooma this week, however there were some decent Bass up to 2kg caught. The most productive areas were the weed edges in the Stuart and Boyne arms, while spinnerbaits, crank baits and jerk baits all worked well and there were also a few Saratoga caught in the timbered area of both arms. Moogerah Dam has continued to fish well, with anglers still landing some quality Bass throughout the dam, mainly in the afternoon, soft plastics and ice-jigs are working the best, with blades and soft vibes also accounting for a few fish, and at Maroon, there were a few quality Bass landed in the timber, to the east of the boat ramp on live shrimp, while weedless rigged soft plastics also worked well around the weed beds.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly taken in the deeper parts of the dam, with ZX blades and frozen saltwater yabbies working the best and it’s still worth a try with hard bodies and bait around the weed edges. Glenlyon is still producing reasonable numbers of Yellowbelly; vertically worked Blades have gone well on these fish, while frozen saltwater yabbies have produced a few for the bait anglers and some decent Cod have been taken around the timber, with trolled hard bodies and Spinnerbaits working well on those fish. Frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp have been effective for Yellowbelly along the rock wall at Coolmunda Dam this week and trolled hard bodies have picked up a few legal sized Cod, with the biggest fish measuring 87cm. Leslie Dam has seen good results over the past week, with some quality Yellowbelly, including a few over the 50cm mark, landed in the main basin, the majority of these fish have been taken on live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies, while soft vibes, blades and lipless crankbaits have also been working well. There’s also been a few landed towards the back of the dam, but most of the action has been in closer to the boat ramps. Boondooma has seen good numbers of quality Yellowbelly taking spinnerbaits and Jackalls, mainly in the Boyne River arm of the dam. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has seen reasonable numbers of Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits and frozen saltwater yabbies have accounted for a few Yellowbelly, the Dumeresq at Texas has also seen a few Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits, and the Warwick and Pratten reaches of the Condamine have produced good numbers of Yellowbelly and some quality Cod on spinnerbaits, frozen saltwater yabbies and cray tails.

COASTAL FISHING

At the Gold Coast, offshore fishing has again seen a bit of action this week, with the 36’s and 50’s producing good numbers of Amberjack and Snapper on drift baits and jigs, and the 18’s and 24’s have seen a few Cobia and Trag Jew getting about. Inshore fishing has seen the Southport Seaway producing Tailor and Trevally on the tide changes, heaps of Gar and Squid on the weed banks throughout the Broadwater; and quality Bream and Flathead are taking bait and soft plastics throughout the Jumpinpin area, with the runout tide being the best time to target these fish. As for the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; the inner reefs have all produced Snapper, Cobia and Red Throat Sweetlip, while Sunshine and North reefs have produced the better quality Snapper. Inshore fishing has seen the Maroochy River producing Bream, Trevally and Tailor around the bridges and rock bars, Caloundra is fishing well for Luderick off the Boardwalk, Flathead and Bream throughout the passage, while at Noosa, plenty of action in the river, with Trevally and Tailor smashing surface poppers, good numbers of Flathead, with bigger fish showing up after dark, plenty of Bream around any sort of structure and a few Jewies have been taken off the beaches.

FISHING REPORT   – 18-06-2015

Overall, the fishing in our area has been a bit patchy; however most impoundments and local rivers have produced low numbers, with the odd dam going a little better than the others.

BASS

Not a lot has changed at Cressbrook Dam this week, it has produced a few Bass again, it’s still worth a look along the buoy line and out from Deer Island, in the main basin, and from Eagles Nest through to the buoy line, in the Cressbrook Creek arm, soft plastics and blades will give you the best chance of landing a fish, while live shrimp have again worked well for the bait anglers. Somerset is still pretty ordinary at the moment, again, the best option would be looking in and around the timber at Kirkleigh, and using live shrimp should give the best results. Not a lot has changed at Boondooma Dam either this week, with Bass taking soft plastics, Blades and soft vibes around the junction and Pelican Point, while bait has been the best option in the timbered areas of both arms. At Bjelke Peterson, the bass have again been a little harder to catch, with live bait only accounting for a few fish around structure and Moogerah was a little quieter this week, however, there were still pretty good numbers of Bass landed throughout the dam, using soft plastics, soft vibes and ice jigs in 25-35ft of water produced the best results.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Only low numbers of fish caught in Cooby this week, using bait or working diving hard bodies and blades fairly tight to the weed edges has worked the best. Glenlyon has gone quiet this week, with only the odd Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies, while the Cod have been extremely quiet. Coolmunda Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly caught again this week, frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms have produced the most fish, while working along the wall and also around the timber have been the best spots to target, there were also a couple of Cod taken on trolled hard bodies. Fishing has been a bit better at Leslie over the past week; most of the Yellowbelly were landed in the main basin with frozen shrimp and saltwater yabbies working the best for the bait anglers, while the lure anglers had success on blades and soft vibes, worked tight to the bottom. The soft vibes also accounted for a couple of legal sized Cod, with several smaller Cod landed as well. Boondooma fished a bit harder for Yellowbelly, with the Boyne arm only producing small numbers on live bait, while at Bjelke Peterson, live bait picked up the majority of fish, however, running deep diving hard bodies so they were bumping the bottom or jigging blades picked up the odd one as well. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi saw a few Yellowbelly taken on bait and the Dumeresq at Texas has seen Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits downstream of the township, and locally, the Condamine has produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly and Cod at the weirs and popular holes, upstream of Cecil Plains, with spinnerbaits, hard bodies and live bait all working well.

COASTAL FISHING

It’s been a bit windy again this past week, but offshore fishing at the Gold Coast has seen a bit of action, with the 36’s and 50’s producing a few Snapper and Amberjack. Inshore fishing has seen the Southport Seaway producing plenty of Bream, Whiting out from the Council Chambers in the Nerang River; plenty of Flathead on bait and soft plastics at the pin and the Aldershots and plenty of Tailor on the incoming tide, at the Jumpinpin bar entrance. As for the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; Currumundi, 12 Mile and North Reefs have all produced Snapper, Cobia, Red Throat Sweetlip and the odd Kingy, while inshore fishing has seen the Maroochy River producing Bream and Flathead on soft plastics throughout, Caloundra is fishing well for Bream off the Boardwalk, Flathead throughout Bells Creek and at the bar entrance,  while at Noosa, Jewies at night along the rock walls, Flathead and Bream throughout the system and Golden Trevally and Tailor at the river mouth.
