FISHING REPORT   – 25-06-2015

BASS

A bit quieter at Cressbrook this week, but it’s still worth a look out off Deer Island, around the steeper points throughout the main basin and also from the Eagles Nest through to the buoy line in the Cressbrook Creek arm, if you find fish, try targeting them with smaller hard bodies, soft plastics and blades and live shrimp are always a good option out there. Not a lot has changed at Somerset, using bait around the timber at Kirkleigh is still the best option. The fishing was fairly tough at Boondooma this week, however there were some decent Bass up to 2kg caught. The most productive areas were the weed edges in the Stuart and Boyne arms, while spinnerbaits, crank baits and jerk baits all worked well and there were also a few Saratoga caught in the timbered area of both arms. Moogerah Dam has continued to fish well, with anglers still landing some quality Bass throughout the dam, mainly in the afternoon, soft plastics and ice-jigs are working the best, with blades and soft vibes also accounting for a few fish, and at Maroon, there were a few quality Bass landed in the timber, to the east of the boat ramp on live shrimp, while weedless rigged soft plastics also worked well around the weed beds.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly taken in the deeper parts of the dam, with ZX blades and frozen saltwater yabbies working the best and it’s still worth a try with hard bodies and bait around the weed edges. Glenlyon is still producing reasonable numbers of Yellowbelly; vertically worked Blades have gone well on these fish, while frozen saltwater yabbies have produced a few for the bait anglers and some decent Cod have been taken around the timber, with trolled hard bodies and Spinnerbaits working well on those fish. Frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp have been effective for Yellowbelly along the rock wall at Coolmunda Dam this week and trolled hard bodies have picked up a few legal sized Cod, with the biggest fish measuring 87cm. Leslie Dam has seen good results over the past week, with some quality Yellowbelly, including a few over the 50cm mark, landed in the main basin, the majority of these fish have been taken on live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies, while soft vibes, blades and lipless crankbaits have also been working well. There’s also been a few landed towards the back of the dam, but most of the action has been in closer to the boat ramps. Boondooma has seen good numbers of quality Yellowbelly taking spinnerbaits and Jackalls, mainly in the Boyne River arm of the dam. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has seen reasonable numbers of Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits and frozen saltwater yabbies have accounted for a few Yellowbelly, the Dumeresq at Texas has also seen a few Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits, and the Warwick and Pratten reaches of the Condamine have produced good numbers of Yellowbelly and some quality Cod on spinnerbaits, frozen saltwater yabbies and cray tails.

COASTAL FISHING

At the Gold Coast, offshore fishing has again seen a bit of action this week, with the 36’s and 50’s producing good numbers of Amberjack and Snapper on drift baits and jigs, and the 18’s and 24’s have seen a few Cobia and Trag Jew getting about. Inshore fishing has seen the Southport Seaway producing Tailor and Trevally on the tide changes, heaps of Gar and Squid on the weed banks throughout the Broadwater; and quality Bream and Flathead are taking bait and soft plastics throughout the Jumpinpin area, with the runout tide being the best time to target these fish. As for the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; the inner reefs have all produced Snapper, Cobia and Red Throat Sweetlip, while Sunshine and North reefs have produced the better quality Snapper. Inshore fishing has seen the Maroochy River producing Bream, Trevally and Tailor around the bridges and rock bars, Caloundra is fishing well for Luderick off the Boardwalk, Flathead and Bream throughout the passage, while at Noosa, plenty of action in the river, with Trevally and Tailor smashing surface poppers, good numbers of Flathead, with bigger fish showing up after dark, plenty of Bream around any sort of structure and a few Jewies have been taken off the beaches.

FISHING REPORT   – 18-06-2015

Overall, the fishing in our area has been a bit patchy; however most impoundments and local rivers have produced low numbers, with the odd dam going a little better than the others.

BASS

Not a lot has changed at Cressbrook Dam this week, it has produced a few Bass again, it’s still worth a look along the buoy line and out from Deer Island, in the main basin, and from Eagles Nest through to the buoy line, in the Cressbrook Creek arm, soft plastics and blades will give you the best chance of landing a fish, while live shrimp have again worked well for the bait anglers. Somerset is still pretty ordinary at the moment, again, the best option would be looking in and around the timber at Kirkleigh, and using live shrimp should give the best results. Not a lot has changed at Boondooma Dam either this week, with Bass taking soft plastics, Blades and soft vibes around the junction and Pelican Point, while bait has been the best option in the timbered areas of both arms. At Bjelke Peterson, the bass have again been a little harder to catch, with live bait only accounting for a few fish around structure and Moogerah was a little quieter this week, however, there were still pretty good numbers of Bass landed throughout the dam, using soft plastics, soft vibes and ice jigs in 25-35ft of water produced the best results.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Only low numbers of fish caught in Cooby this week, using bait or working diving hard bodies and blades fairly tight to the weed edges has worked the best. Glenlyon has gone quiet this week, with only the odd Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies, while the Cod have been extremely quiet. Coolmunda Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly caught again this week, frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms have produced the most fish, while working along the wall and also around the timber have been the best spots to target, there were also a couple of Cod taken on trolled hard bodies. Fishing has been a bit better at Leslie over the past week; most of the Yellowbelly were landed in the main basin with frozen shrimp and saltwater yabbies working the best for the bait anglers, while the lure anglers had success on blades and soft vibes, worked tight to the bottom. The soft vibes also accounted for a couple of legal sized Cod, with several smaller Cod landed as well. Boondooma fished a bit harder for Yellowbelly, with the Boyne arm only producing small numbers on live bait, while at Bjelke Peterson, live bait picked up the majority of fish, however, running deep diving hard bodies so they were bumping the bottom or jigging blades picked up the odd one as well. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi saw a few Yellowbelly taken on bait and the Dumeresq at Texas has seen Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits downstream of the township, and locally, the Condamine has produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly and Cod at the weirs and popular holes, upstream of Cecil Plains, with spinnerbaits, hard bodies and live bait all working well.

COASTAL FISHING

It’s been a bit windy again this past week, but offshore fishing at the Gold Coast has seen a bit of action, with the 36’s and 50’s producing a few Snapper and Amberjack. Inshore fishing has seen the Southport Seaway producing plenty of Bream, Whiting out from the Council Chambers in the Nerang River; plenty of Flathead on bait and soft plastics at the pin and the Aldershots and plenty of Tailor on the incoming tide, at the Jumpinpin bar entrance. As for the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; Currumundi, 12 Mile and North Reefs have all produced Snapper, Cobia, Red Throat Sweetlip and the odd Kingy, while inshore fishing has seen the Maroochy River producing Bream and Flathead on soft plastics throughout, Caloundra is fishing well for Bream off the Boardwalk, Flathead throughout Bells Creek and at the bar entrance,  while at Noosa, Jewies at night along the rock walls, Flathead and Bream throughout the system and Golden Trevally and Tailor at the river mouth.

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has produced a few Bass again this week, try along the buoy line and out from Deer Island, in the main basin, and from Eagles Nest through to the buoy line, in the Cressbrook Creek arm, soft plastics and blades will give you the best chance of landing a fish, while live shrimp have produced good numbers for the bait anglers. Somerset is still pretty ordinary at the moment, it’s a battle to even find fish, the best option would be looking in and around the timber at Kirkleigh, and using live shrimp should give the best results. Boondooma Dam has again produced some quality Bass on Tailspinners, Blades and Fly around the junction and Pelican Point, while working spinnerbaits tight to the trees in the Boyne arm has been effective as well. At Bjelke Peterson, the bass have been a little harder to catch, but working the banks around bass point with blades or plastics has produced a few and Moogerah has again seen good numbers of quality Bass landed throughout the dam, using soft plastics and soft vibes, in 25-30ft of water.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Glenlyon is still producing good numbers of Yellowbelly in around 25-30ft of water; vertically worked Blades have gone well on these fish, while live shrimp and worms have worked well for the bait anglers. Coolmunda Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly caught again this week, frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms have produced the most fish. Leslie Dam remains quiet with not too many anglers having success, there have been a few reports of Silver Perch and Eel Tail Catfish being caught off the bank near the boat ramps on worms, there was also the odd Yellowbelly landed on shrimp and trolled hard bodies around the Black Boys. Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson have produced some quality fish in the main basins, jigging blades and trolling deep diving hard bodies has been good and working spinnerbaits around the timber has produced a few fish as well. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi and the Dumeresq at Texas have seen Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits, and locally, the Condamine has produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly and Cod at the weirs and popular holes, with spinnerbaits, hard bodies and live bait all working well.

COASTAL FISHING

Inshore fishing has seen the Southport Seaway producing plenty of Jewies and Tailor, heaps of Gar on the weed banks; Flathead are taking bait and soft plastics at Kalinga Bank and Jumpinpin and the rock walls in the Nerang River are producing some quality Bream. As for the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; Spanish mackerel and Snapper are prominent on most of the reefs at the moment, there’s also some good numbers of Pearl Perch and Cobia getting about as well. Inshore fishing has seen the Maroochy River producing Bream, Trevelly and Tailor around the bridges and rock bars, Caloundra is fishing well for Bream and Luderick off the Boardwalk, Flathead throughout the passage and Whiting out from the power boat club, while at Noosa, good numbers of Flathead in the river, plenty of Bream around any sort of structure and a few Trevally have been hitting surface lures around the river mouth.

FISHING REPORT   – 04-06-2015

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has been a bit quieter this week, but there’s still been some quality Bass landed, mainly on soft plastics. The Eagles Nest area has been a good spot to target and there are some fish suspended in 60ft of water in the main basin, which would be worth a try also. Somerset is still very quiet for the lure anglers, but there’s been a few Bass taking live bait in the timbered area at Kirkleigh. Boondooma Dam has produced some quality Bass on Tailspinners, Blades and Fly around the junction and Pelican Point, while working spinnerbaits tight to the trees in the Boyne arm has been effective as well. Bjelke Peterson has produced a few Bass on blades, in the deeper parts of the dam, Bass Point has also seen a few taken on trolled hard bodies. There are still several schools of Bass in the main basin at Moogerah Dam, rigging soft plastics on a 1/2oz jighead and working them slow and tight to the bottom will give the best results and ice jigs have also picked up a few.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Not much to report from Cooby Dam again this week, however Glenlyon continues to fish quite well, good numbers of Yellowbelly have been taken on frozen saltwater yabbies, 25-30ft of water seems to be the depth to look in, while bigger spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies have produced some nice Cod around the timbered parts. Coolmunda Dam has fished alright again this week, looking in the deeper parts of the dam and around the timber has produced the most fish, live shrimp and worms have worked the best. Leslie Dam remains quiet at the moment, with only low numbers of Yellowbelly taking live shrimp, near the Black Boys, in front of the boat ramps and up at Cod Alley have been the best spots to target, it’s been a lot harder for the lure anglers, with only a couple of fish caught on trolled hard bodies. Bjelke Peterson has seen a few Yellowbelly taken on trolled lures around Bass Point; the timbered areas of both arms of Boondooma have again been productive for Yellowbelly, with live bait working the best on these fish. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has seen a few Yellowbelly taken on frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms, good numbers of quality Cod are taking bait and spinnerbaits, anywhere from the township through to Tallwood, low numbers of Yellowbelly have been taken on frozen saltwater yabbies in the Dumeresq River at Texas and the upper reaches of the Condamine River has produced some quality Yellowbelly and Cod on spinnerbaits and crays.

COASTAL FISHING

Conditions aren’t looking ideal for Coastal fishing this weekend, however offshore fishing has been productive at the Gold Coast during this week, with good numbers of Kingies, Amberjack and Snapper on the Northern 50’s and the 36’s have produced Trag Jew and Snapper. While inshore fishing has seen schools of Chopper Tailor in the Southport Seaway, Whiting and Flathead around Wavebreak Island, Jewies off the pipeline and Bream and Flathead have been prominent throughout the Jumpinpin area, while at the Sunny Coast, Snapper and Cobia have been prominent on Sunshine and Murphy’s Reefs and most of the reefs are holding a lot of Mack and Long Tail Tuna. Inshore fishing at Caloundra has seen Bream along the boardwalk, Flathead on soft plastics, along the sandbanks in the passage, Whiting and Flathead throughout most of the estuaries, poppers and metal slugs are picking up Trevally and Tailor at the mouth of the Noosa River and the beaches have been producing a few Tailor as well.  

FISHING REPORT   – 28-05-2015

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has continued to produce reasonable numbers of Bass, mainly on blades and the odd one on soft plastics, look in about 30ft of water, out from the boat ramp, out off Deer Island and also out from the steeper banks in both arms of the dam. Somerset has again seen big Bass taking live bait in the timbered area at Kirkleigh, some decent schools of fish are showing up in both arms of Boondooma Dam, blades and ice jigs have worked the best on these fish, Bjelke Peterson dam has produced a few Bass around Bass Point and early morning has seen spinnerbaits picking up some decent fish around the timber. There are several schools of Bass in the main basin at Moogerah Dam, they were a bit subdued last weekend, but have become more active during this week, blades, plastics, mask vibes, ice-jigs and tail spinners are all working well. Maroon has also seen some nice fish landed, working plastics around the weed banks, should give good results.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Not much to report from Cooby Dam this week, however the fishing has been pretty good at Glenlyon, the upper reaches of the dam have produced Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater yabbies, while bigger spinnerbaits have produced some nice Cod up to 105cm, around the timber, in 6-8ft of water. Coolmunda Dam has fished alright again this week, looking in the deeper parts of the dam and around the timber has produced the most fish, there has been a few smaller Cod landed again, bait has been the best option, with live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies working the best. Leslie Dam has been a little quiet, with only low numbers of Yellowbelly landed over the past week, the main basin opposite the boat ramps has been a popular area to target, with live shrimp being the pick of the baits, and for the land based anglers, there was a few Silver Perch and Eel-tailed Catfish taken off the banks. Bjelke Peterson has produced some quality Yellowbelly throughout the dam, on frozen saltwater yabbies, the timbered areas of both arms of Boondooma have produced a few fish on blades, ice jigs and live bait. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has seen a few Yellowbelly taken on frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms, good numbers of smaller Cod are taking bait and lipless crankbaits, upstream of the township and the Condamine River has produced some quality Yellowbelly and Cod on spinnerbaits and crays in the Warwick area.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has been good at the Gold Coast again this week, with good numbers of Kingies and Snapper on the Northern 50’s, live baits are working well for Snapper on the 18’s and 24’s and there’s still the odd Spanish Mackerel getting about the 36’s. While inshore fishing has seen schools of Chopper Tailor in the Southport Seaway, small Queenies and Flathead around Wavebreak Island and Jewies and Flathead around Crusoe Island, at Jumpinpin, while at the Sunny Coast, Snapper and Cobia have been prominent on most reefs and North Reef is holding a lot of smaller Mackerel. Inshore fishing has seen all of the rivers producing good numbers of Bream and Flathead on soft plastics, the Boardwalk at Caloundra is fishing well for Bream and Trevally, while surface lures and metal slices are picking up smaller Queenies in the Pelican Waters canals.

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Toowoomba Garden City, on their running of the Toowoomba Fishing Classic at Cressbrook Dam on the weekend. There were plenty of fish caught and by all accounts, everyone who attended, had an enjoyable day, well done to everyone involved with the day.

BASS

Somerset has seen big Bass taking live bait in the timbered area at Kirkleigh, Both arms are still a bit dirty at Boondooma Dam, using reaction lures around the timber has picked up the odd fish, but again, looking for schooled fish in the main basin would be your best bet, and targeting these fish with plastics, blades or tailspinners should produce the best results, Bjelke Peterson dam has produced some small Bass, off the edges, casting ¼ oz Blades, Moogerah has seen good numbers of Bass landed on the flats throughout the dam, using soft plastics, blades and tail spinners in 25-30ft of water, has provided the best results and working the weed beds with soft plastics has worked well at Maroon.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly taken on ice jigs, blades, live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies throughout the dam and shore based fishing has produced a few fish as well. The fishing is still fairly good at Glenlyon, it has again produced a few Yellowbelly in the deeper parts, around the 35-40cm mark, with frozen saltwater yabbies, live shrimp and worms landing the most fish, while bigger spinnerbaits and Jackals have produced some nice Cod around 60 to 70cm, with a couple of fish nudging the metre mark. Coolmunda Dam has been fishing well for Yellowbelly this week, using bait in the deeper parts of the dam has produced the most fish, there has been a few smaller Cod landed as well, bait has been the best option, with live shrimp, frozen saltwater yabbies and cray tails working the best. In the Warwick area the fishing is a little slow at Leslie Dam, with a few Yellowbelly taken on live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies around the rock wall, and TN60 Jackalls have taken a few Cod around the 80cm mark, Bjelke Peterson has produced some quality Yellowbelly, around Bass Point, on spinnerbaits and blades, Boondooma produced a few fish on blades, ice jigs and live bait, with the deeper parts around the junction and into the Stuart arm proving to be the best spots. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi is still a bit quiet, although there has been the odd Yellowbelly taken on frozen saltwater yabbies and spinnerbaits, good numbers of smaller Cod are taking bait and Spinnerbaits at Bonshaw Weir and Cecil Plains and Yarramalong Weirs have fished well for Yellowbelly and Cod, with spinnerbaits and Jackals producing the most fish.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has been good at the Gold Coast again this week, with good numbers of Kingies and Amberjack providing plenty of action on the N.E 50’s, Snapper and quality Red Emperor on the 24’s and the shelf has produced a few Blue Marlin. Inshore fishing has seen the Southport Seaway producing Mulloway on live bait at night, and also Kingies and Trevelly on the run in tide, good quality Bream in the deeper holes, Flathead on plastics around the Pin and Kalinga Bank and plenty of Gar hanging around the weed beds near Seaworld and Crab Island, while at the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; with most reefs fishing well for Spotty Mackerel, Coral Trout, Sweetlip and Snapper. Inshore, the Maroochy River has produced Bream and Trevelly around most of the bridges, the passage at Caloundra is fishing well for Whiting and Mulloway, a few Flathead are taking plastics on the sand banks opposite the Power Boat Club, good numbers of Queenfish at the mouth of the Noosa River, a few Tailor starting to show up off the beaches and the Pelican Waters canals have seen plenty of Bream holding around any sort of structure.

FISHING REPORT   – 14-05-2015

TOOWOOMBA FISHING CLASSIC

The Toowoomba Fishing Classic is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Toowoomba Garden City. This is the first year and they are looking forward to a great day. There will be random draws on the day and the prize categories are: Adult and junior Heaviest Yellowbelly, Adult and junior Heaviest Bass, Adult and junior Heaviest Cod, Adult and junior Heaviest Fish of any type and Mystery weight??? Fishing times are 7.00am - 2.00pm. There is a free sausage in the morning from the BBQ trailer and they will be running a BBQ with sausages, hamburgers and drinks all day. Entry fees are Adults $40, Children under the age of 16 $15 & Families $90. Families consist of 2 adults 2 children.

BASS

Cressbrook is only producing low numbers of Bass at the moment, try around Deer Island, out from the camp grounds and also around the main points in the Bull Creek and Cressbrook Creek arms, soft plastics and blades will give you the best chance of landing a fish, while live shrimp have produced good numbers for the bait anglers. Both arms are fairly dirty at Boondooma Dam, which means, looking for schooled fish in the main basin would be your best bet, when found, target the fish with plastics, blades or tailspinners, for the best results and Moogerah has seen good numbers of Bass landed throughout the dam, using soft plastics, blades and tail spinners in 25-30ft of water, has provided the best results.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Fishing around the weed edges has been good at Cooby, with frozen saltwater yabbies and hard bodies landing a few, the numbers have dropped off, but the quality has improved, with a lot of the fish hitting the 40-45cm mark. The fishing is still fairly good at Glenlyon, it has again produced a few Yellowbelly in 20-25ft of water, live shrimp and worms have landed the most fish, while bigger spinnerbaits and Jackals have produced some nice Cod around the timber. Coolmunda Dam has been fishing well for Yellowbelly this week, using bait on the drop-offs to the old creek beds has produced the most fish, there has also been a few smaller Cod taken on trolled hard body lures. Leslie Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly taken on live worms and frozen saltwater yabbies around the edges, while hopping Mask Vibes off the drop-offs, in the main basin has worked well also. Boondooma produced a few fish on blades, ice jigs and live bait, with the deeper parts of the main basin proving to be the best spots to target. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has improved this past week, with reasonable numbers of Yellowbelly taken on live worms, while downstream has seen a few Cod hitting surface lures and still pretty quiet in the Dumeresq and Condamine Rivers, due to the fresh running through them.

COASTAL FISHING

Inshore fishing has seen the Southport Seaway producing a few Jew and some quality Tailor, Gar on the weed banks and some nice Flathead are taking bait and soft plastics at Kalinga Bank and Jumpinpin. While at the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good again; Snapper are prominent on most of the reefs at the moment, there’s also some good numbers of Pearl Perch and Cobia getting about as well. Inshore fishing is starting to improve as the estuaries clear up, with the Maroochy River producing Bream, Trevelly and Tailor around the bridges and rock bars, Caloundra has seen a few Bream and Flathead off the Boardwalk, and Whiting out from the power boat club, while at Noosa, good numbers of Jewies off the rock walls at night and GT’s and Queenfish have been active at the river mouth.
