FISHING REPORT   – 15-09-2016

BASS

Once again, the Bass fishing has been good this week, with Cressbrook Dam producing a few fish off the camp ground point, out from the boat ramp and off  the steeper points in the Cressbrook Creek arm, while soft plastics, tailspinners and live shrimp have all been effective again. Pretty good at Boondooma again this week; with some quality fish up to 50cm getting about; tailspinners, ice jigs and spinnerbaits have worked well around the Junction and Pelican Point. Good quality fish at Bjelke Peterson as well this week, with the edges producing reasonable numbers throughout the dam and Moogerah has been fishing well, particularly on bait, where some quality Bass have been landed in the timbered area on live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies; Blades, tailspinners and soft plastics also accounted for some nice fish, with most of these coming from the flats in the main basin.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

No real change at Cooby this week; it has produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly just out from the weed edges on trolled shallow diving hard bodies, while using bait or jigging blades in the deeper parts has produced a few fish as well. Still plenty of activity in Glenlyon, with good numbers of Yellowbelly taking small, shallow diving hard bodies, worked around the newly covered banks.  Coolmunda has seen the timbered area producing Yellowbelly on blades, while spinnerbaits have accounted for some quality Cod. At Leslie, bait has worked well at the top end of the dam, while blades and trolled hard bodies picked up some nice fish in the main basin. As for the rivers, the best reports have again come from the upper reaches of the Condamine, with some decent catches of Yellowbelly from Clifton through to Warwick, pretty quiet around Goondi this week and the Dumeresq, from Texas to Yellarbon has produced a few Yellowbelly on bait.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing at the Gold Coast this past week has seen Snapper and Amberjack on the 18’s and 24’s, a few Kingies on the 36’s and out wider, trolling skirted lures has worked well for Yellowfin Tuna. Inshore fishing has seen Bream and Jewies in the Seaway and good quality Flathead have been prominent around Crab Island, Tipplers Passage and just inside the Pin Bar. At the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has seen Snapper on 8 Mile Reef, and there’s also been the odd Mackerel getting about, while inshore fishing has seen plenty of Whiting in the lower parts of the Maroochy River, Bream and Trevally at the mouth of Bells Creek, Flathead throughout the passage on live baits; and in the Noosa River, the upper reaches are producing good numbers of smaller Mangrove Jack, while Trevally and Flathead, have been taking live bait in Woods Bay, on the incoming tide.

FRASER ISLAND

Fraser is still producing some decent Tailor, but numbers are still very dependent on the wind and the amount of weed getting about.

Fishin Report 08-09-2016

FISHING REPORT   – 08-09-2016

BASS

Bass fishing has been pretty good again this week, with Cressbrook Dam producing some smaller fish; looking around the camp ground point, out from the boat ramp and the points in the Cressbrook Creek arm are all good options, while soft plastics, tailspinners and live shrimp have been effective. Somerset has been a bit hit and miss this past week, but it’s still produced some quality fish, with Pelican Point through to Kirkleigh being the best area of the dam to target, soft plastics, tailspinners and blades have all worked well. Pretty good at Boondooma again this week; if you know your way around the dam, there are some quality fish up to 50cm getting about; plastics, blades and trolled hard bodies have worked well, while the Stuart arm, from the Junction through to the timber has been a fairly productive area. Bjelke Peterson ramped up this week, with plenty of Bass hitting blades and hard bodies, worked in 15-20ft of water throughout the dam and Moogerah has been a little slow, with most of the fish hanging around the timber,  soft plastics and live shrimp have accounted for the majority of these fish.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly, the fish seem to be hanging just out from the weed edges and trolling shallow diving hard bodies or casting spinnerbaits in tight to the weed has been effective, while using bait or jigging blades in the deeper parts has produced a few fish as well. There was some decent activity in Glenlyon, Coolmunda and Leslie, after the inflows in the previous weeks, there have been reports of a few Cod and Yellowbelly hitting spinnerbaits and hard bodies at the top end of the dams, where the water has been feeding in. Glenlyon has also seen good numbers of Yellowbelly taking small, shallow diving hard bodies, worked around the newly covered banks. With the recent flows into these dams, take extra care when boating on them; there is quite a bit of debri floating around. As for the rivers, the best reports have come from the upper reaches of the Condamine, with some decent catches of Yellowbelly from Clifton through to Warwick and fishing with bait from the banks of the Dumeresq, from Texas to Yellarbon will get you a few Yellowbelly.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has been a bit quiet at the Gold Coast, but the36’s and 50’s have produced some quality Pearl Perch, Kingies and Amberjack, while the close artificial reefs have been good for Snapper. Inshore fishing has seen Jew, Tailor and Trevally in the Seaway on the run in tide, good numbers of Flathead on soft plastics and trolled lures throughout the Broadwater and also at the Pin, quality Whiting at the Council Chambers in the Nerang River, Tailor off the beaches and a few Sand Crabs have started to show up in the southern end of the Broadwater. At the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has produced some big Snapper on North Reef, as well as the Barwon Banks and The Hards when the weather permits a trip, some large schools of longtail tuna are getting about North Reef as well, with some yellowfin amongst them and some Parrot and Pearlies are coming from the reefs Northeast of Double Island point. Inshore fishing has seen plenty of big Whiting around the Power Boat Club, quality Flathead on soft plastics at the bar entrance, small Trevally in the Pelican Waters canals, some decent Bass in the upper reaches of the Mooloolah River; and in the Noosa River, Tailor are hitting surface poppers in Woods Bay, big Flathead and Whiting throughout, some nice Jewies to 80cm in the deeper holes and the upper reaches have seen some nice Mangrove Jack getting about.

FRASER ISLAND

There has been some quality Tailor throughout most gutters, however weed has been an issue at different times over the past week.

FISHING REPORT   – 01-09-2016

WE HAVE A BIT OF NOTICE BOARD TO START THIS WEEKS REPORT

1.    Don’t forget about the closed season for Murray Cod that started at midnight last night. Check out last week’s report for details, or go to www.daf.qld.gov.au

2.    The Bass closed season in tidal waters has now finished.

3.    Cooby and Cressbrook Dams have a change to their opening hours from today. At Cressbrook, the day use area is open from 6 am to 8 pm, while at Cooby; Loveday Cove is open from 7am to 8 pm and the Dam Wall picnic area is open 7am to 7.30pm. Water based activities are not permitted outside these hours, this includes campers at Cressbrook.

4.    Dam rises – Glenlyon is sitting at about 40%, Coolmunda is now at 53% and Leslie has reached 19.5%.

BASS

A lot of smaller Bass at Cressbrook this week; out from the boat ramp and off the camp ground points have seen the most fish, while live shrimp, soft plastics and tailspinners have worked the best. Big Bass are still on the move at Somerset, with The Spit, Queen Street and Kirkleigh being the best places to target, soft plastics, tailspinners and blades have all worked well, while live shrimp and trolled hard bodies have been good options as well. Boondooma has again seen good numbers of Bass taken on ice jigs, soft vibes and tailspinners around Pelican Point and The Junction, trolled hard bodies have also picked up a few through the narrows. Trolling deep diving lures in the old creek beds has been effective at Bjelke Peterson and Moogerah Dam has again produced a few Bass on mask vibes and tailspinners, looking around the spit has been a good option.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD
Cooby Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies and blades in about 30ft of water, trolling smaller lures tight to the weed edges has picked up a few as well. Boondooma Dam has again produced good sized Yellowbelly on trolled hard bodies through the narrows and Bjelke Peterson has also produced good quality Yellowbelly again, working TN60 Jackalls around the steeper points has worked well, while spinnerbaits and hard bodies have picked up a few around the timber.  As for the rivers, they’re still dirty from recent flows, which has made things pretty quiet.

COASTAL FISHING
Offshore fishing has seen a few Snapper, Cobia and Trag Jew taken on the 18’s and 24’s and out wider, Kingfish, Amberjack and Snapper have been caught on the 50’s, while inshore has seen the sand pumping jetty fishing well for Trevally and Tailor on the incoming tide, smaller Kingies and school Jew in the Seaway on the morning tide change, Bream around the bridges in the canals, Flathead at the Aldershots and Kalinga Bank and a few Sand Crabs are showing up around Crab Island. At the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has seen most reefs holding mixed reef fish and Snapper up to 8kg; Jigs, soft plastics and baits, like pilchards and live yakka’s fished on the bottom have worked well. There’s also been a few Yellowfin and Long Tail Tuna getting about. While inshore fishing has seen plenty of Flathead throughout the Passage and the Maroochy River, Bream and Whiting at Military Jetty, Trevally are hitting surface lures around structure in most of the canals and the Noosa River has produced a few Jacks on live bait, under the bridges at night and the river mouth has been firing for Flathead and Trevally, on the incoming tide.

FRASER ISLAND

Still getting mixed reports of Tailor and Dart along the eastern beaches, with the northern part of the island producing slightly better quality fish.

 

Fishing Report 25-08-16

FISHING REPORT   – 24-08-2016

COD CLOSED SEASON APPROACHING

A closed season applies to Murray cod from 1 September to 30 November in all Queensland waters contained in the Murray Darling Drainage Division; this applies to the Condamine, Macintyre, Dumeresq, Weir, Moonie, Balonne, Warrego and Paroo Rivers. DURING THIS TIME MURRAY COD MUST NOT BE TAKEN OR TARGETED IN THESE WATERWAYS. An exception to this closed season applies to Beardmore, Connolly, Cooby, Coolmunda, Glenlyon, Leslie and Storm King Dams, where the fish are actually stocked.

BASS

Cressbrook produced some quality Bass again this week, they’re still a bit hard to catch, but if you persist, it will pay off; tailspinners, soft plastics and trolled hard bodies have all worked again, while the points have again been the best places to look. Still good shows of fish at Somerset, which have again produced some good quality Bass on Soft Plastics, tailspinners and live shrimp, while the flats at Kirkleigh, Bay 13 and the spit, have been the spots to target. Ice jigs and tailspinners worked in 25-35ft of water have been the most productive at Boondooma this week, Pelican Point and the junction have been the pick of the spots and Bjelke Peterson has seen some quality Bass hitting ice jigs, blades and TN60 Jackalls around the point opposite the boat ramp.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Glenlyon, Leslie and Coolmunda have all received inflows from this week’s rain; this will impact on the fishing in these dams, due to the dirty water. Cooby Dam is still producing the odd Yellowbelly on trolled shallow diving hard bodies, working them near the weed beds, along the steeper banks in the northern arm has worked the best and the land based anglers have picked up the odd fish on frozen saltwater yabbies. Bjelke Peterson and Boondooma saw some good quality Yellowbelly landed in the same areas and using the same tactics as with the Bass, and Somerset has produced good quality Yellowbelly again, trolling hard bodies through schooled fish has been effective. As for the rivers, the Macintyre river at Goondi has only seen the odd Yellowbelly biting on frozen saltwater yabbies, the Dumeresq has been quiet, with only a few fish taking bait and not a lot has changed here locally, with the upper reaches of the Condamine River, still producing a few Cod and Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits, hard bodies and frozen saltwater yabbies.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has produced again at the Gold Coast, with plenty of Snapper and Cobia taken on the 24’s and 36’s and the 50’s have fished really well for Kingies and Amberjack, while inshore has seen the Seaway fishing well for Trevally and Kingies along the northern wall, quality Flathead and Bream on soft plastics throughout the Jumpinpin area and also around Wavebreak Island. At the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has seen the Barwon Banks producing Snapper, Pearl Perch and the odd Cobia, North and Sunshine Reef have produced big Snapper, mainly at dawn and dusk, while inshore fishing at Caloundra has produced Bream off the Boardwalk, soft plastics have worked well for Flathead throughout the passage and the Maroochy River, while the Noosa River has produced good numbers of quality Bream and Flathead, Jewies along the ski run on live bait and most of the river mouths have produced big Whiting up to 43cm.

FRASER ISLAND

Still getting mixed reports from Fraser this week, the southern gutters are producing the better numbers, but there is a lot of smaller fish in amongst them, while the low tide gutters have started to produce some decent Whiting and Dart.

Fishing Report 18-08-16

FISHING REPORT   – 18-08-2016

BASS

Not a lot has changed at Cressbrook this week, there’s quite a few fish showing up, but not big numbers getting caught; out from the boat ramp, around the Eagles Nest and also out off the points in the main basin have again been the better spots to look, using soft plastics, soft vibes, tailspinners and blades will work, as always, live shrimp will work in those same areas. The big fish are starting to appear at Somerset, which has included a 3.62kg thumper, caught last weekend. Tailspinners have worked well, while the Kirkleigh area has been the most productive. Bjelke Peterson also saw good quality Bass hitting the decks this past week; working the points with TN60 Jackalls picked up the most numbers and Boondooma has again seen good numbers of Bass taken on ice jigs, soft vibes and tailspinners around Pelican Point, The Junction and also into the Stuart River.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Glenlyon has produced small numbers of Yellowbelly this week, trolled hard bodies, worms and frozen saltwater yabbies are still a good option, a few Cod have been caught on spinnerbaits, even though it’s a bit quiet, persistence will pay off. Coolmunda is still producing a few Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater yabbies and hard bodies’, targeting the old creek beds is the best option. Leslie Dam saw a few nice fish landed this past week, there were a couple of legal sized Cod landed on trolled hard body lures, they measured 64cm and 70cm, while targeting the deeper water with blades, soft vibes and frozen saltwater yabbies worked the best for the Yellowbelly. Boondooma Dam has seen good sized Yellowbelly taking trolled hard bodies in the Stuart arm, just out from the timber, darker colours have worked the best and Bjelke Peterson has also produced good quality Yellowbelly again; working TN60 Jackalls around the points has worked well, while spinnerbaits and hard bodies have picked up a few around the timber.  As for the rivers, the Goondiwindi area has seen Cod hitting bigger spinnerbaits and hard bodies and the Condamine River has been fishing reasonably well for Yellowbelly on lipless crank baits.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has been good again at the Gold Coast, with plenty of Snapper and Jewies taken on the 24’s and 36’s and the 50’s have fished really well for Kingfish and Amberjack, while inshore has seen the Seaway fishing well for Jewies and Bream along the rock walls, quality Flathead and Bream on soft plastics throughout the Jumpinpin area and inside the Jumpinpin Bar has been productive for Tailor. Offshore fishing at the Sunny Coast, has seen Murphys Reef, Caloundra 12 Mile and the Barwon Banks producing Snapper, Moses Perch and Jewies, while inshore fishing at Caloundra has produced Bream and Luderick off the Boardwalk, soft plastics have worked well for Flathead in the Maroochy River and the Noosa River has produced Golden Trevally along the rock walls, on metal slugs, Jewies along the ski run on live bait and the river mouth has produced decent numbers of Tailor at dawn and dusk.

FRASER ISLAND

Numbers are down at Fraser this week, due to south easterly winds dominating the weather. Here’s hoping for better conditions next week.

 

Fishing Report 11-08-16

FISHING REPORT   – 11-08-2016

BASS

A quality Yellowbelly landed while
fishing off the bank at Lake Dyer.

Still some reasonable shows of fish in Cressbrook at the moment, they’re getting harder to catch and the average size of the fish is getting smaller; the fish seem to be in 20-30ft of water early morning and late afternoon, while they move into deeper water through the day. Looking around the Eagles Nest and the camp ground point is a good option, while soft plastics, soft vibes, ice jigs and blades have all picked up fish. Some good quality Bass are starting to show up at Somerset; tailspinners, blades and soft plastics have all worked well, while Pelican Point, Queen Street and the flats at Kirkleigh have been the pick of the spots. Boondooma is still producing good numbers of fish; plastics, blades, soft vibes and tailspinners are all working well in the deeper water around the junction. Blades and plastics worked off the edges have been picking up some decent fish at Bjelke Peterson and Moogerah is still producing a few Bass; using your sounder to find the fish and targeting them with slow rolled soft plastics has worked well.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly taking trolled, darker coloured hard bodies just out from the weed banks, while frozen saltwater yabbies and vertically worked blades have picked up a few, out off the rock wall near the buoy line. Glenlyon has seen better numbers of Yellowbelly taken on blades this week, worms and frozen saltwater yabbies are still a good option and spinnerbaits have picked up some decent Cod. Coolmunda produced low numbers of Yellowbelly on bait and jigged blades, working the drop offs to the creek bed. Leslie Dam remains fairly consistent with some quality Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies off the bank just north of the Ski Club, while blades and beetlespins have also worked well in the deeper parts of the dam. Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson Dam have both seen good sized Yellowbelly taking trolled hard bodies in the main basins and casting blades to the edges has been effective as well, and Somerset has produced good quality Yellowbelly again, casting TN60 Jackalls to the edges has been effective. As for the rivers, the Dumeresq is going alright at the moment, with good numbers of Cod hitting surface lures, while quality Yellowbelly are biting on frozen saltwater yabbies and smaller trolled hard bodies and the upper reaches of the Condamine River continues to produce a few Cod and Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits, hard bodies and frozen saltwater yabbies.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing has been good this past week, with plenty of Snapper and Cobia taken on the 24’s and 36’s and out wider, Snapper, Kingfish and Amberjack have been prominent on the 50’s, while inshore has seen the Seaway fishing well for Trevally and Tailor on the morning tide change and Jewies on live bait at night, quality Flathead on soft plastics throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin areas and the beaches on South Stradbroke have been productive for Tailor. Offshore fishing at the Sunny Coast, has seen Murphys Reef  and the Barwon Banks producing Snapper, Pearl Perch and Amberjack, while inshore fishing at Caloundra has produced Bream and Luderick off the Boardwalk, Trevally and Bream around the moorings in most of the estuaries, a few Jacks in the upper reaches of the Maroochy River and the Noosa River has produced Golden Trevally at the river mouth, on the incoming tide, quality Flathead taken on trolled minnows and some good size Bream and Whiting have been caught near the Frying Pan.

FRASER ISLAND

Pretty good reports from Fraser at the moment, weather conditions have been fairly good and that’s seen decent numbers of Tailor, Dart and Whiting in most gutters along the eastern beaches.

FISHING REPORT   – 04-08-2016

BASS

At Cressbrook, still good numbers of fish off the camp ground point, the upper reaches of the Cressbrook Creek arm and also around the main point in the Bull Creek arm of the dam; soft plastics, soft vibes, ice jigs and blades have all been effective and for the bait anglers, it’s definitely worth a try with live shrimp in those same areas. A few schools and some scattered fish are starting to show at Somerset and there has been the odd quality Bass taking Blades and live shrimp, while Pelican Point, Bay 13 and Queen Street have been the best places to look. Boondooma has seen some decent catches of Bass this week; ice jigs, spinnerbaits and blades have all worked well, particularly around the junction and pelican point. Moogerah has seen reasonable numbers of fish taking soft plastics and tailspinners, targeting fish in 25-30ft of water throughout the main basin has given the best results, while live shrimp have picked up a few in and around the timber. The Bass at Maroon have also been fairly active, with quite a few quality fish landed on live shrimp, while crank baits picked up a few around the weed edges.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam is producing a few Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater yabbies and jigged darker coloured blades, in about 40ft of water. A bit quieter at Glenlyon this week, with small numbers of Yellowbelly and Silver Perch taking worms and frozen saltwater yabbies and trolled hard bodies have accounted for a few Cod up to 80cm. Coolmunda is still producing a few Yellowbelly and Silver Perch on bait, in the deeper parts of the dam: trolling hard bodies along the drop offs to the old creek beds has also worked well. Leslie Dam saw plenty of Yellowbelly landed over the weekend and into the start of the week, frozen saltwater yabbies   worked well out from the Ski Club. Blades and mask vibes were effective for the lure anglers, in the deeper parts of the main basin. Boondooma Dam has again seen plenty of Yellowbelly taking soft vibes and ice jigs in the main basin and casting blades to the edges has been effective as well, good numbers of quality Yellowbelly at Bjelke Peterson, with deep diving hard bodies and frozen saltwater yabbies working the best and Somerset has produced good quality Yellowbelly, using silent TN60 Jackalls, cast to the edges. As for the rivers, the Dumeresq River has seen low numbers of Cod hitting surface lures, shallow diving hard bodies and bigger spinnerbaits, quality Yellowbelly are biting on frozen saltwater yabbies and smaller trolled hard bodies and the upper reaches of the Condamine River is on the improve, with a few Cod and Yellowbelly taking spinnerbaits, hard bodies and frozen saltwater yabbies.

COASTAL FISHING

Inshore fishing at Caloundra has produced Bream and Luderick off the Boardwalk, Flathead throughout the passage and at the mouth of the Maroochy River, Winter Whiting on the sand flats, near the Powerboat Club and the mouth of the Noosa River has produced Golden Trevally and Jewies on the incoming tide.

FRASER ISLAND

Tailor fishing is going alright at the moment, with most gutters holding fish, there’s no great size to them, but the numbers are pretty good.
