FISHING REPORT   – 16-06-2016

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has produced a few Bass again this week, it’s worth a look out from the boat ramp in the main basin, and from the buoy line through to the main point in the Bull Creek arm, metal spoons and blades will give you the best chance of landing a fish, while live shrimp have worked well for the bait anglers. Somerset is still pretty ordinary at the moment, the best option would be looking in and around the timber at Kirkleigh, and using live shrimp should give the best results. Boondooma Dam has seen the Bass taking suspending minnows on the weed edges; tailspinners and spinnerbaits are working on the points and ice jigs have picked up a few in the deeper water. At Bjelke Peterson; blades, trolled hard bodies and live shrimp have all worked well at Bass Point and Maroon Dam saw some quality Bass picked up in amongst the weed beds, with suspending minnows working well.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Only low numbers of fish caught in Cooby this week, using bait or working diving hard bodies and blades fairly tight to the weed edges has worked the best. Glenlyon has been fairly quiet this week, with only the odd Yellowbelly taking frozen saltwater yabbies, while the odd Cod has been taken on spinnerbaits. Coolmunda Dam has seen a few Yellowbelly caught again this week, frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms have produced the most fish, while trolled hard bodies have picked up a few Cod, including a 90cm model, which was caught on Thursday morning. Fishing has been a bit better at Leslie over the past week; most of the Yellowbelly were landed in the main basin with live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies working the best for the bait anglers, while the lure anglers had success on blades and soft vibes, worked tight to the bottom. The soft vibes also accounted for a couple of legal sized Cod, with several smaller Cod landed as well. Boondooma fished a bit harder for Yellowbelly, with the Boyne arm only producing small numbers on live bait, while at Bjelke Peterson, live bait picked up the majority of fish, however, running deep diving hard bodies so they were bumping the bottom or jigging blades picked up the odd one as well. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi saw a few Yellowbelly taken on bait and the Dumeresq at Texas has seen Cod hitting surface lures and bigger spinnerbaits downstream of the township.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing at the Gold Coast has seen a bit of action, with the 36’s and 50’s producing a few Snapper and Amberjack. Inshore fishing has seen the Southport Seaway producing plenty of Bream, Whiting out from the Council Chambers in the Nerang River; plenty of Flathead on bait and soft plastics around the pin and plenty of Tailor on the incoming tide, at the Jumpinpin bar entrance. As for the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been pretty good this week; Currumundi, 12 Mile and North Reefs have all produced Snapper, Cobia, Red Throat Sweetlip and the odd Kingy, while inshore fishing has seen the Maroochy River producing Bream and Flathead on soft plastics throughout, Caloundra is fishing well for Bream off the Boardwalk, Flathead throughout Bells Creek and at the bar entrance,  while at Noosa, Jewies at night along the rock walls, Flathead and Bream throughout the system and Golden Trevally and Tailor at the river mouth.

FISHING REPORT   – 09-06-2016

BASS

Not a lot to report from Cressbrook Dam this week, there has been a few smaller Bass landed, mainly on soft plastics and tailspinners. The main basin has been the best spot to target. Somerset has produced some nice fish up to 50cm; soft plastics and mask vibes hopped through schooled fish, on the flats at Queen Street and Kirkleigh has worked well. It’s also been pretty good for the bait anglers with some quality Bass taking live bait around the timber. Boondooma Dam has seen ice jigs picking up Bass in the deeper water, while blades, tailspinners and mask vibes have worked well around the timber in the Boyne arm. Bjelke Peterson produced some decent Bass on soft plastics, cast to the edges and worked back to the boat and Moogerah Dam has also been a bit quieter this week with only low numbers taking plastics worked near the weed banks.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Pretty quiet on the Yellowbelly scene this week; Coolmunda Dam only produced a few fish on frozen saltwater yabbies. Leslie Dam has seen the bait anglers landing some Yellowbelly on live shrimp and crays, mask vibes picked up a couple near the Washpool Camping Reserve and darker coloured blades picked up a few in the deeper water. Bjelke Peterson has seen a few Yellowbelly taking bait fished around the timber; the timbered areas of both arms of Boondooma have again been productive for Yellowbelly, with live bait working the best on these fish. As for the rivers, not much to report from the Macintyre and Dumeresq Rivers, however the upper reaches of the Condamine River produced some quality Yellowbelly and Cod on spinnerbaits and surface lures

COASTAL FISHING

Nothing to report from the Gold Coast this week. Offshore at the Sunny Coast has seen a few nice reef fish caught in-close on Little and Big Halls reefs, during the bigger swell; there’s also the odd spanish mackerel hanging around Jew Shoal, with slow trolled live baits being the best way to pick up a pelagic.

Inshore fishing at Caloundra has seen Bream around the bar entrance and Military Jetty, Flathead on soft plastics at the mouth of Bells Creek and the Maroochy River, at Noosa; look around the river mouth for Trevally and Tailor, good sized Bream throughout the system and Sunshine and Castaways beaches have seen the odd big jew and tailor caught after dark.

FISHING REPORT   – 02-06-2016

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has been a bit quieter this week, but there’s been some quality Bass landed, mainly on soft plastics and tailspinners. The Bull Creek arm has still been the best spot to target. Somerset has been quiet for the lure anglers, but there’s been a few Bass taking live bait in the timbered area at Kirkleigh. Boondooma Dam has produced some quality Bass on ice jigs, blades and spinnerbaits, in the deeper water, around the junction and Pelican Point. Bjelke Peterson has produced a few Bass on blades, in the deeper parts of the dam, Bass Point has also seen a few taken on trolled hard bodies and live shrimp. At Moogerah Dam, the Bass are hanging out from the timber, near the day use boat ramp, rigging soft plastics on a 1/2oz jighead and working them steady and close to the bottom will give the best results; tailspinners and ice jigs have also picked up a few.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Not much to report from Cooby Dam this week, however Glenlyon continues to fish quite well, good numbers of Yellowbelly have been taken on frozen saltwater yabbies, 25-30ft of water seems to be the depth to look in, while bigger spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies have produced some nice Cod around the timbered parts. Coolmunda Dam has fished alright again this week, looking in the deeper parts of the dam has produced the most fish, live worms and frozen saltwater yabbies have worked the best. Yellowbelly have remained active at Leslie Dam this week, with some quality fish being landed in the deeper water; cray tails and frozen saltwater yabbies accounted for the majority of these, while blades and mask vibes picked up a few as well. Bjelke Peterson has seen a few Yellowbelly taken on trolled lures around Bass Point; the timbered areas of both arms of Boondooma have again been productive for Yellowbelly, with live bait working the best on these fish. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has seen a few Yellowbelly taken on frozen saltwater yabbies and live worms, a few smaller Cod have been hitting surface lures in the Dumeresq River at Texas and the upper reaches of the Condamine River has produced some quality Yellowbelly and Cod on spinnerbaits and crays.

COASTAL FISHING

Conditions aren’t looking good for Coastal fishing this weekend, however offshore fishing has been productive at the Gold Coast during this week, with good numbers of Kingies, Amberjack and Snapper on the Northern 50’s and the 36’s have produced Trag Jew and Snapper. While inshore fishing has seen schools of Chopper Tailor in the Southport Seaway, Whiting and Flathead around Wavebreak Island, Jewies off the pipeline and Bream and Flathead have been prominent throughout the Jumpinpin area, while at the Sunny Coast, Snapper and Cobia have been prominent on Sunshine and Murphy’s Reefs and most of the reefs are holding a lot of Mack and Long Tail Tuna. Inshore fishing at Caloundra has seen Bream along the boardwalk, Flathead on soft plastics, along the sandbanks in the passage, Whiting and Flathead throughout most of the estuaries, poppers and metal slugs are picking up Trevally and Tailor at the mouth of the Noosa River and the beaches have been producing a few Tailor as well.

FISHING REPORT   –   26-05-2016

BASS
Good fishing at Cressbrook again this week, Tailspinners and soft plastics have been a good option, with the Bull Creek arm still holding the majority of the fish; early morning and late afternoon has produced the better numbers; a lot of the fish are around the 30-35cm mark, but there’s still been a few up around the 50cm mark landed. Plenty of schools showing up in the deeper water at Boondooma Dam this week; tailspinners, soft plastics and ice jigs have been effective, while live shrimp have worked well for the bait anglers. Targeting the points with trolled hard bodies and live shrimp have been the best options at Bjelke Peterson this week. There’s still some good quality Bass at Somerset, if you’re prepared to put in the time, spoons and plastics have picked up the majority of the fish, trolling hard bodies has also worked well, while Queen Street and Kirkleigh have been the better spots to target and Moogerah has produced good numbers of quality fish again, with soft plastics and tailspinners proving successful around the weed edges, in the timbered area.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Fishing the deeper water has provided the best results at Cooby Dam again this week, with frozen saltwater yabbies picking up the majority of the fish. Boondooma has produced a few Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater yabbies, fished around the weed edges and the timber, while at Bjelke Peterson; the timbered area and the steeper banks have produced low numbers on bait and spinnerbaits. Leslie Dam saw reasonable numbers landed again this week; land based anglers had the most success in front of the Washpool Camping Reserve and near the Ski Club, with live shrimp, worms and frozen saltwater yabbies all catching fish. Trolling hard bodies out from the Washpool Reserve also picked up a few Yellowbelly and a few, smaller, legal sized Cod were taken on spinnerbaits. Glenlyon has produced reasonable numbers of Yellowbelly toward the top end of the dam, mainly on live shrimp and worms, while trolled spinnerbaits have picked up some nice Cod between 80 and 90cm. As for the rivers, the Macintyre and Dumeresq have gone a bit quiet; and here locally, the upper reaches of the Condamine has produced a few Yellowbelly and Cod on spinnerbaits.

COASTAL FISHING

Offshore fishing at the Gold Coast has produced Pearl Perch and Snapper on the northern 50’s, while the 18’s and 24’s have seen a few Trag Jew and Trevelly getting about. The Seaway is producing a few Jewies at night, along the rock walls, Flathead around Crab Island, Squid and Gar on the weed banks around Wavebreak Island and the entrance to the Jumpinpin bar has again produced a few Trevally and Tailor. At the Sunshine Coast, plenty of Sweetlip, Snapper and Cobia on 12 Mile Reef, while the wider reefs have been productive for Pearl Perch, Mackerel and Tuna. Inshore fishing has produced a few Jewies near Military Jetty, plenty of Bream off the boardwalk; good quality Whiting and Flathead throughout the Maroochy River, while at Noosa; Tailor throughout the river on whole pilchards and live baits; Trevally of all different varieties in Woods Bay, good numbers of small Jewies taking soft plastics, live baits have been accounting for some quality flathead and the beaches are starting to produce some good quality Tailor.

BASS

Regan Smith landed this 107cm Murray Cod on the
Condamine River, using a Jitterbug.

Better reports from Cressbrook this week, Tailspinners have been a good option, with the Bull Creek arm still holding the majority of the fish; early morning/late afternoon has produced the better numbers. Boondooma Dam has been a bit patchy this week; The Junction has produced a few on blades, while Leisegang’s Ledge has seen the fish hitting ice jigs. Hit and miss at Bjelke Peterson as well; working soft plastics, blades and spoons around Lightning Ridge and Bass Point has worked well, but live shrimp have been a better option. Some good quality Bass at Somerset again this week, with spoons picking up the majority of the fish and good catches at Moogerah as well, with soft plastics, spoons and tailspinners proving successful on the ridge out from the camp ground boat ramp and also on the flats in the timbered area.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Fishing the deeper water has provided the best results at Cooby Dam: looking along the dam wall buoy line and targeting the fish with vertically worked ZX Blades has worked best. Boondooma has again produced a few Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits, worked around the weed edges, while at Bjelke Peterson; the timbered area and the steeper banks have produced low numbers on bait and spinnerbaits. Leslie Dam has again seen decent numbers of Yellowbelly landed over the past week; Blades have proven successful in the deeper water, while frozen saltwater yabbies, live shrimp and crays have worked well throughout, including off the bank, north of the concrete boat ramps. Glenlyon has produced reasonable numbers of Yellowbelly up to 50cm, mainly on live shrimp, fished near the weed and surface lures worked around the timber have again been effective for some quality Cod, up to 105cm. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi is still producing plenty of good quality Cod on surface lures, hard bodies and spinnerbaits; while Yellowbelly have been hitting spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies; and the upper reaches of the Condamine has produced a few Yellowbelly and Cod on spinnerbaits.

COASTAL FISHING

The Seaway is producing a few Kingies and Jewies along the rock walls, Jacks throughout the Nerang and Coomera Rivers, Squid and Gar on the weed banks around Crab Island and the entrance to the Jumpinpin bar has produced Trevally and Tailor. At the Sunshine Coast, plenty of Pearl Perch, Snapper and a few bigger Tuna on the Barwon Banks and Sunshine Reef, while the closer reefs have been productive for Mackerel and Tuna. Inshore fishing has produced Flathead and Queenies on live Herring near Military Jetty, plenty of Bream off the boardwalk; good quality Whiting and Flathead throughout the Maroochy River has produced Golden Trevally at the river mouth, while at Noosa; Tailor throughout the river on whole pilchards and live baits; Trevally of all different varieties just off Munna Point, Woods Bay and the river mouth, Bream numbers have increased, with lightly weighted mullet or tuna strips taking the better fish and Whiting are still worth targeting around the sand flats, on live worms and yabbies.

BASS

Ashton Gaffney landed this 101cm Murray Cod
on the Macintyre River at Goondiwindi recently.

Mixed reports from Cressbrook this week, but some bigger fish up to 52cm have been landed. The main basin and the Bull Creek arm have again seen the most action, while live shrimp, tailspinners and soft plastics have had the most success. Boondooma Dam has seen the Bass move into deeper water, particularly around the junction; spoons, soft vibes and blades have worked the best, however there are still a few hitting spinnerbaits, worked around the weed edges. A bit slower at Bjelke Peterson this week; working soft plastics around Treasure Island, Lightning Ridge and Bass Point is the best option. A little patchy at Somerset Dam as well; trolling deep diving hard bodies throughout Queen Street has picked up the majority of the fish and mixed results at Moogerah this week, with some days fishing better than others; suspending minnows worked just outside the weed in the timbered area, picked up some decent fish; while soft plastics and tailspinners have been successful on the ridge out from the camp ground boat ramp.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

The fishing has started to slow at Cooby Dam: there has been a few Yellowbelly taking shallow diving hard bodies, worked across the top of the weed beds, while late afternoon has been the best time to fish. Boondooma has produced good numbers of Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits, worked around the weed edges, while at Bjelke Peterson; the timbered area has produced low numbers. Coolmunda Dam has produced a few Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits and tailspinners just out from the dam wall. Leslie Dam has again seen decent numbers of Yellowbelly landed over the past week, with ZX Blades and live shrimp proving successful in the deeper water, trolling hard bodies along Cod alley and around the black boys has picked up a few as well and there are some nice Yellowbelly taking shrimp near the Ski Club. Glenlyon has produced reasonable numbers of Yellowbelly, mainly on live shrimp, fished near the weed and surface lures worked around the timber has been effective for some quality Cod, up to 92cm. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi is still producing plenty of good quality Cod on surface lures, hard bodies and spinnerbaits; while Yellowbelly have been hitting spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies; the water level is down a bit in the Dumeresq at Texas; there’s only been a couple of Cod taken on surface lures and the upper reaches of the Condamine has produced a few Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits.

COASTAL FISHING

The Seaway is producing a few Jewies, mainly along the north wall, on the incoming tide, Whiting and Bream throughout the Nerang River and there’s also plenty of Bream and Chopper Tailor around the Jumpinpin bar. At the Sunshine Coast, 5 and 12 Mile Reefs have produced a mixed bag of Spanish Mackerel, Long Tail Tuna, Snapper and Tuskies, while the Barwon Banks has seen some quality Pearl Perch and Coral Trout getting about. Inshore fishing has produced Queenfish on live Pike near Military Jetty, Trevally on surface lures in the Pelican Waters canals and some nice Whiting have been landed on the banks opposite the power boat club the Maroochy River has produced Golden Trevally at the river mouth, Bream and Flathead throughout the system and at Noosa; Tailor and Bream numbers are on the increase near the river mouth, Golden and Giant Trevelly are taking surface lures and soft plastics in Woods Bay and around Munna Point,  Weyba Creek and the frying pan are producing good numbers of Whiting on live worms and yabbies and the beaches have produced Bream, Dart and Jewies.

FISHING REPORT   –   05-05-2016

BASS

Cressbrook is still producing some good quality Bass on spinnerbaits, trolled hard bodies and tailspinners, the bigger fish have been in the Bull Creek arm, while the main basin has still seen some smaller fish getting about. Not much has changed in the South Burnett dams this week; at Boondooma Dam, Spinnerbaits and Jackalls worked around the weed edges, particularly at the junction and also in the timbered areas of both arms has produced good numbers. Trolling spinnerbaits, shallow diving hard bodies and Jackalls on the flats out from Bass Point and also along the old creek bed out from the boat ramp has again been effective at Bjelke Peterson.  Somerset Dam has again seen some decent Bass taken on the flats at Kirkleigh and Queen Street, deep diving hard bodies have picked up the majority of these fish and Moogerah produced good quality fish this week; tailspinners worked just outside the weed in the timbered area, picked up some decent fish, early morning; while soft plastics have been successful on the ridge out from the camp ground boat ramp.

 

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

 

Cooby Dam saw reasonable numbers of Yellowbelly taking blades, trolled lures and frozen saltwater yabbies, just out from the pontoon, and the north arm have been the best spots to target. Boondooma has produced good numbers of quality Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater yabbies and spinnerbaits, mainly around the timber in both arms, while at Bjelke Peterson, the points and timbered areas have provided the best catches. Coolmunda Dam has only seen low numbers of Yellowbelly taken throughout, with frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp working the best. Leslie Dam saw some good numbers of Yellowbelly landed over the past week, with ZX Blades and live shrimp proving successful in the deeper water. There were also good numbers landed off the bank at the southern end of the main basin opposite the Washpool Camping Reserve. Glenlyon has again produced reasonable numbers of Yellowbelly in about 30ft of water, live shrimp and trolled hard bodies have been effective, there was also a couple of decent Cod taken on big spinnerbaits. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has really fired this week, with plenty of Cod taking surface lures and spinnerbaits; there’s been some meter plus fish in amongst these; while Yellowbelly have been hitting trolled hard bodies and the Dumeresq saw some nice Cod and Yellowbelly taken on bright coloured spinnerbaits upstream of Texas.

 

COASTAL FISHING

 

Offshore fishing at the Gold Coast has produced Mahi Mahi and Mackerel on the 36’s, Amberjack and Pearl Perch on the 50’s and there’s been a few Snapper and Tuna on the 18’s and 24’s. The Seaway is producing a few Jewies, mainly along the north wall, on the incoming tide, try around The Spit for Bream on the tide changes and it’s also worth flicking plastics around Crusoe Island and inside Jumpinpin bar for Flathead. While at the Sunshine Coast, the wider reefs have seen some bigger Spaniards and Long tail Tuna hitting trolled lures and drifted live baits, while Snapper and Sweetlip have been prominent also. Inshore fishing has produced Bream off the Boardwalk and quality Flathead near Military Jetty at Caloundra, the Maroochy River has seen Bream, Whiting and Flathead throughout the system, with the tide changes being the best time to fish and at Noosa; plenty of Tailor and Bream at the river mouth, while Mangrove Jack are still on the chew: trolling lures around the rock bars and jetties should produce a few of these hard fighting fish.
