FISHING REPORT – 18-12-2014

BASS

Cressbrook Dam is fishing a bit tough for Bass, the best option seems to be trolling darker coloured hard bodies along the buoy line and across to Deer Island, it’s also worth a look near the eagles nest and into the Cressbrook Creek arm of the dam. Somerset Dam has again seen some good catches over the past week; Queen Street was again a popular spot for the anglers, where hopping blades and Soft Vibes have been effective. Trolling hard bodies from the junction to the start of the timber in the Stuart arm has again worked well at Boondooma this week, while casting Spinnerbaits and Jackalls around the trees, in the upper reaches of that same arm has been good also. Similar at Bjelke Peterson, it has again produced good numbers of Bass, working the edges with spinnerbaits, Jackalls and Blades, while trolling hard bodies through the main bays of the dam has produced some good fish as well.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby is still fishing well for Yellowbelly, working the Western bank and into the northern arm has been popular, while TN60 Jackalls have produced the majority of the fish, the land based anglers have also caught a few, with frozen saltwater yabbies being the best option for them. Glenlyon has fished well again this week, with good numbers of Yellowbelly and Silver Perch landed, live Shrimp have again been the pick of the baits, while trolled hard bodies and Spinnerbaits have seen a few Cod caught. Coolmunda has again produced good numbers of Cod and Yellowbelly on trolled hard body lures and spinnerbaits, working the old creek beds and along the wall have still been the best spots to target. Leslie Dam is still fishing well all over the dam, trolling smaller hard bodies across from the dam wall and up the back of the dam past the Black Boys has worked well and the bait anglers are having similar success on a variety of bait, with frozen saltwater yabbies landing most of the fish, and in the South Burnett, both Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have again produced good numbers of Yellowbelly, in Boondooma, bait and trolled hard bodies have been effective around the junction, while casting spinnerbaits around the timber and to the edges in both arms has produced some quality fish, while at Bjelke Peterson, casting reaction lures, like spinnerbaits and Jackalls to the edges has been a popular method and trolled hard bodies have worked well in the main basin. As for the rivers, locally the Condamine has produced a few Yellowbelly and Cod, mainly on the Southern part of the downs.

GOLD COAST

Offshore fishing has again produced plenty of Kingies on knife jigs on the 50’s, good numbers of Dolphin Fish on the 36’s and 50’s and out the front of the Pin has again seen some smaller Black Marlin getting about. Inshore fishing has seen smaller Kingies and Trevally, early morning on the run in tide, in the Seaway, Whiting are still prominent around the mouth of the Coomera River and near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River, Jacks around the bridges throughout the canals and Hinze Dam has been firing for Bass.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing has seen some decent schools of Spotty Mackerel getting about, casting metal slugs and running them back through the fish has worked the best, and a few reports of mixed reef fish on 12 Mile and Sunshine Reefs. Inshore fishing has seen the Bar entrance at Caloundra producing some nice Flathead, while in the passage, smaller Jewies are holding in the deeper holes, the Maroochy River has been fishing well for Jacks around the creek mouths Flathead, Trevally and Jewies at the mouth of the Noosa River, Whiting on surface poppers just inside the river mouth and the beaches have been fishing quite well, with good reports of bigger Dart on the early morning high tides and also a few Whiting and Flathead on the run out tide along the closer gutters.

FISHING REPORT – 11-12-2014

BASS

Cressbrook Dam is still fishing quite well for Bass, soft plastics and spinnerbaits are still working, looking along the buoy line and across to Deer Island, where the fish are suspended at about 20-30ft is still a good option, it’s also worth a look near the eagles nest and into the Cressbrook Creek arm of the dam, the fish are by no means easy to catch, but if you happen to hook a few, there are some quality fish getting about. Somerset Dam saw some good catches over the weekend and into the start of this week, the deeper water in the timbered part of the dam saw the fish suspended at about 20ft and working Spinnerbaits through these fish produced some good results. Queen Street was also a popular spot for the anglers, where vertically worked blades were effective. Trolling hard bodies from the junction to the start of the timber in the Stuart arm has been very productive at Boondooma this week, while casting Spinnerbaits and Jackalls around the trees, in the upper reaches of that same arm has been good as well. Bjelke Peterson has also produced good numbers of Bass this week, working the edges, leading into the timber with spinnerbaits, Jackalls and Blades has been good, while trolling hard bodies through the main bays of the dam has produced some good fish as well, Moogerah Dam continues to fish well with anglers picking up some nice Bass on tail spinners and blades, a few fish have also been taken in the timber on spinnerbaits and Maroon has also fished quite well, with live shrimp and soft plastics working well for the anglers.

 

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby is still fishing well for Yellowbelly, working the area out from the dam wall buoy line with TN60 Jackalls has produced some quality fish, the land based anglers have also caught a few, with bait being the best option for them. Glenlyon has improved again this week, with good numbers of Yellowbelly and Silver Perch landed, live Shrimp have again been the pick of the baits, while trolled hard bodies and Spinnerbaits have seen a few Cod caught, but they have only been around the 60-70cm mark. Coolmunda has again produced good numbers of Cod and Yellowbelly on trolled hard body lures and spinnerbaits, working the old creek beds and along the wall have still been the best spots to target. Offshore fishing has again produced plenty of Kingies on knife jigs on the 50’s, Palm Beach and Mermaid Reefs has been good for Spotty Mackerel and out the front of the Pin in 50-80m of water has seen some smaller Black Marlin getting about. Inshore fishing has seen smaller Kingies and Trevally, early morning on the run in tide, in the Seaway, Whiting are still prominent around the mouth of the Coomera River and near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River, Jacks around the bridges throughout the canals and the southern Broadwater has again seen stacks of Sand Crabs getting about.

Offshore fishing has seen some decent schools of Spotty Mackerel, Long Tail and Mac Tuna getting about, trolling livies and deep diving hard bodies has worked well on those fish, while there have been good reports of Coral Trout on Sunshine Reef. Inshore fishing has seen the passage at Caloundra producing some nice Flathead, the Maroochy River has been fishing well for Flathead, Trevally and Jacks, good numbers of Trevally, Jew, Tailor and Flathead at the mouth of the Noosa River, Whiting on surface poppers just inside the river mouth and the beaches have produced good numbers of quality Whiting and Dart.

FISHING REPORT – 04-12-2014

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has produced a few Bass again this week, soft plastics and trolled darker coloured hard bodies are working the best, mainly along the buoy line and through the main basin. Similar to last week at Boondooma Dam, there’s still a good reaction bite going on, with quality fish taking TN60 Jackalls and spinnerbaits, cast to the edges, trolling hard bodies in the main basin has also been effective. Bjelke Peterson has also produced good numbers of Bass this week, it’s been slightly better than Boondooma, working the edges with spinnerbaits, Jackalls and Blades has been good while Bass point has seen a few taken on Blades and trolled hard bodies and down at Moogerah and Maroon, both dams continue to fish well, Maroon has probably been the pick, with anglers landing some quality fish on a variety of lures, early morning and late afternoon have been the best times to try.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cod and Yellowbelly fishing is still good around the area at the moment; Cooby Dam has produced a few Yellowbelly around the buoy line, not just in the deeper water, but also the banks working back from the buoy line, TN60 Jackalls are the best option, however spinnerbaits and soft vibes have picked up a couple as well. Glenlyon has produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly again this week, bait, spinnerbaits and hard bodies have all worked well, a couple of Cod have been caught, but they’re still a bit hard to come by. Coolmunda has again produced good numbers of Cod and Yellowbelly on darker coloured lures, working the old creek beds and along the wall have still been the best spots to target. Leslie Dam continues to fish quite well for both lure and bait anglers, with blades and hard body lures picking up the most fish, live shrimp have been working the best for the bait anglers, there was also a few legal sized Cod landed on spinnerbaits, while casting at the structure and in the South Burnett, both Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have again produced good numbers of Yellowbelly, in Boondooma, bait and trolled hard bodies have been effective in the main basin, casting spinnerbaits around the timber and to the edges throughout the dam has produced some quality fish, while at Bjelke Peterson, casting reaction lures, like spinnerbaits and Jackalls around the timber has been a popular method. As for the rivers, the Dumeresq has a bit of a flow in it at the moment, due to releases from Glenlyon and there are a few Yellowbelly hitting hard bodies and spinnerbaits from the Bonshaw Weir downstream and the Condamine River, from Pratten to Warwick has produced some quality Cod and Yellowbelly on hard bodies and spinnerbaits.

GOLD COAST

Offshore fishing has produced some small Black Marlin, on trolled lures, out from the Jumpinpin Bar and out on the 50 Fathom line, Blue Marlin and Dolphin Fish have provided some fun for the anglers. Inshore fishing has seen smaller Kingies and GT’s in the Seaway, Jewies at the mouth of Swan Bay at the Pin, Whiting near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River, Jacks around the bridges on live bait and plastics in the Coomera River and a few Flathead have been taken around Slippin Sands on smaller hard body lures.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing has fired up this week plenty of Mackerel and Kingies getting about most reefs, Coral Trout and Sweetlip at Sunshine Reef and a few Black Marlin are getting about 5 Mile Reef. Inshore fishing has seen the passage at Caloundra producing some nice Flathead, Trevelly and Jacks in most of the rivers, the Maroochy River has been fishing well for Flathead and Whiting on soft plastics and beach worms, Trevally and Kingfish on soft plastics at the mouth of the Noosa River and the beaches have produced good numbers of quality Whiting.

FISHING REPORT – 27-11-2014

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has been fishing well for Bass, with some quality fish from 38-44cm hitting trolled darker coloured hard bodies, look along the buoy line and across to Deer Island, where the fish are suspended at about 20-30ft, it’s also worth a look in the Bull Creek arm of the dam. Somerset Dam has kicked into gear again this week; with some good solid fish taking soft plastics and ice jigs, the fish are still holding in Bay 13, Queen Street and around Pelican Point. Boondooma Dam has got a good reaction bite going at the moment, with quality fish taking TN60 Jackalls and spinnerbaits, cast to the edges. Bjelke Peterson has also produced good numbers of Bass this week, working the edges with spinnerbaits has been good while Bass point has seen a few taken on Blades and trolled hard bodies and down at Moogerah Dam, anglers have managed to land a few nice Bass over the past week, most fish were taken in and around the timber while casting blades, another good spot has been in the bay opposite the dam wall, while some fish were also landed trolling hard bodies along the southern banks.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cod and Yellowbelly fishing is still good around the area at the moment; Cooby Dam has produced a few Yellowbelly around the weed edges, trolled hard bodies and spinnerbaits have worked well on those fish while blades, ice jigs and frozen saltwater yabbies have been effective on the deeper schooled fish and there has been a couple of Cod taken on spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies. Glenlyon has produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly again this week, bait, spinnerbaits and hard bodies have all worked well, but the Cod are a bit quiet at the moment. Coolmunda has again produced good numbers of Cod and Yellowbelly on darker coloured lures, working the old creek beds and along the wall have still been the best spots to target. Leslie Dam is continuing to fish quite well on both lures and bait, using a sounder to locate the fish in the main basin and targeting them with bait has been effective, but working soft vibes through the fish has given the best results and in the South Burnett, both Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have again produced good numbers of Yellowbelly, in Boondooma, bait and trolled hard bodies have been effective in the main basin, while casting spinnerbaits around the timber and to the edges throughout the dam has produced some quality fish, while at Bjelke Peterson, casting reaction lures, like spinnerbaits and Jackalls around the timber has been a popular method. As for the rivers, at midnight this Sunday night the no take season on Cod in the Border Rivers and also the rivers throughout NSW, finishes, so if you like fishing those areas, it’s all systems go, however the Dumeresq and Macintyre Rivers are fairly quiet at the moment, but the Condamine River, from Pratten to Warwick has produced some quality Cod and Yellowbelly on hard bodies and spinnerbaits.

Offshore fishing has been fairly good this week, the 18’s & 24’s have produced a few smaller Black Marlin and the odd Pearl Perch and there’s been plenty of Kingies and Amberjack hitting jigs on the 50’s. Inshore fishing has seen smaller Kingies and Trevally out the front of Wavebreak Island,  Jumpinpin has been good for Flathead and Tailor on the incoming tide, Whiting at the mouth of the Coomera River and near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River and the southern Broadwater has seen a few Sand Crabs getting about.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing has seen some decent schools of Spotty Mackerel and Long Tail Tuna getting about, the majority of these fish have been taken on cast and retrieved slugs around the 18-25 gram size, while there have been good reports of Tusk Fish and Grassy Sweetlip taken at Caloundra wide. Inshore fishing has seen the passage at Caloundra producing some nice Flathead and a few smaller Bream; Trevally and Jacks around the bridges in the Pelican Waters canals. The Maroochy River has been fishing well for Flathead and Jacks in the upper reaches, Trevally and Chopper Tailor at the mouth of the Noosa River on the run in tide and the beaches have produced good numbers of quality Whiting.

BASS

Plenty of fish about at Somerset Dam, but what has been caught, has been on the smaller side, they are just legal size, but that’s not what we’re used to at this dam, at this time of year. Live shrimp, soft plastics and smaller blades have given the best results. Cressbrook has produced fairly good numbers of Bass, casting Blades and Jackalls to the steeper banks early morning or late afternoon has produced a few fish, there is also good numbers of quality fish suspended in the deeper water, in the main basin, trolled hard bodies have picked up the majority of these. Spinnerbaits, Jackalls and blades cast to the edges have worked well on the Bass at Boondooma, the fish are holding in 15-20 foot of water, the narrows, the junction and the start of the Stuart arm have been the spots to target. At Bjelke Peterson, Bass Point has again been the hot spot, with plenty of fish taking live shrimp, trolled hard bodies and Jackalls.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Plenty of activity again, for Yellowbelly and Cod fishing this week, at Cooby Dam, good numbers of fish are holding just out from the buoy line, Jackalls have worked well on these fish, while frozen Saltwater Yabbies and live Shrimp have again been popular baits, there were some big numbers landed earlier in the week, but they have declined a bit as the weeks progressed. Yellowbelly have been quite active at Glenlyon this week; trolled hard bodies, spinnerbaits, live shrimp and worms have worked well, with early morning and late afternoon being the best times. Coolmunda has again produced big numbers of Yellowbelly and Cod, trolling hard bodies along the drop-offs and out from the wall has worked well, while using bait in the same areas has also seen some decent fish landed.  Leslie Dam continues to produce good numbers of Yellowbelly and a few Cod on hard body lures and blades; casting Jackalls at structure has been good also, frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp have done the job again for the bait anglers, while late afternoon has produced the best numbers. Somerset has seen Yellowbelly taking trolled hard bodies, blades and Jackalls in the timber at Kirkleigh; and in the South Burnett, both Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have again produced good numbers of Yellowbelly, in Boondooma, bait has worked well in the timbered areas of the Stuart and Boyne arms, while trolling Yo-Zuri 3D Cranks around the junction and into both arms of the dam has been effective as well and as with the Bass, Bjelke Peterson is producing plenty of Yellowbelly around Bass Point, live shrimp, spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies have all been effective. Nothing much to report from the rivers this week, although the Condamine River produced a few Yellowbelly around Warwick.

GOLD COAST

The 18’s and 36’s have been relatively productive, drifting pilchards for Mackerel, there’s no big schools yet, but the numbers have been fairly consistent. Inshore fishing has seen Kingies and Trevally along the north wall of the Seaway, reasonable numbers of Flathead and Whiting at the Pin, Whiting out from Sea World and also near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River and the upper reaches of the Coomera River has again fished well for Mangrove Jack.

SUNSHINE COAST

Sticking to the inshore reefs will reward you with plenty of Spotty and Spanish Mackerel and out wider has been good for Snapper, Sweetlip, Cobia and Mahi Mahi. And as far as the inshore fishing goes, it’s all about Flathead and Whiting at the moment, with fresh yabbies and sand worms picking up good numbers in the Passage, throughout the Maroochy and Mooloolah Rivers and also the mouth of the Noosa River and the Noosa River has also produced some quality Mangrove Jack on live bait.

FISHING REPORT   – 13-11-2014

BASS

Somerset Dam has fired over the past week; with plenty of quality Bass hitting Slider Grubs and trolled dark coloured hard bodies around Bay13 and Pelican Point, while VX40 blades and Ice Jigs have produced good numbers in the timber at Kirkleigh, working in 25-30ft of water, just out of the creek beds, has worked best. Cressbrook has produced fairly good numbers of Bass, casting Blades and Jackalls to the edges has produced a few fish, there is also good numbers of quality fish suspended in the deeper water, in the main basin, trolled hard bodies have picked up the majority of these fish. Trolling hard bodies have worked well around the junction at Boondooma this week, the mid to upper reaches of the Stuart arm have also produced some nice Bass on Jackalls and Spinnerbaits. At Bjelke Peterson, casting spinnerbaits to the edges has produced a few Bass, working the spinnerbaits slow and close to the bottom has been the best method and Moogerah has produced good numbers again, with blades and TN60 Jackalls working the best.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Plenty of activity again, for Yellowbelly and Cod fishing this week, at Cooby Dam, EcoGear VX40 Blades and Ice Jigs have worked well on the deeper fish, while frozen Saltwater Yabbies and live Shrimp have again been popular baits. Coolmunda is producing big numbers at the moment, trolling hard bodies along the drop-offs has worked well, and using bait in the same areas has also seen some decent fish landed.  Leslie Dam continues to produce good numbers, with anglers landing fish all over the dam, hard body lures and blades are working well; the best spots have been, near the Black Boys, Cod Alley and south of the dam wall. Somerset is also firing for Yellowbelly at the moment, trolling dark coloured hard bodies in the Pelican Point and Bay 13 areas has been effective, while blades and Ice Jigs have worked well in the timber; and in the South Burnett, both Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have again produced good numbers of Yellowbelly, in Boondooma, bait has been effective in the Stuart and Boyne arms and casting spinnerbaits around the timber in the upper reaches of the Stuart arm has produced some big fish as well, while at Bjelke Peterson, Yellowbelly have been taking spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies, with Bass Point being a popular spot. As for the rivers, the Dumeresq at Texas has seen plenty of Yellowbelly taken on frozen Saltwater Yabbies and Spinnerbaits and the Macintyre at Goondi has been fishing consistently for Yellowbelly, but the majority are smaller fish.

Offshore fishing has been steady this week, the 18’s have produced good size Snapper and Kingies, while on the 50’s, Pearl Perch, Kingies and Amberjack have been on the move. Inshore fishing has seen Kingies and School Jew in the Seaway, reasonable numbers of Flathead at the Pin, Whiting out from Sea World and near the Council Chambers in the Nerang River and the upper reaches of the Coomera River has fished well for Mangrove Jack.

Offshore fishing has again been a bit quiet this week, but there has been the odd Spotty Mackerel and Yellowfin Tuna getting about and the outer reefs have produced the odd Snapper, Pearl Perch, Cobia and Kingy. Inshore fishing has seen a few Flathead and Whiting taken in the Passage, quality Mangrove Jacks are hanging around structure, in most of the estuaries, but you do have work hard for them, the Maroochy River has seen some good action for Whiting, on poppers along the sand bars and in the Noosa River, there are plenty of Flathead, Whiting, School Jew and Mangrove Jack throughout.

 

FISHING REPORT   – 06-11-2014

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has produced some quality Bass again this week, live shrimp are still a good option, and Spinnerbaits have again picked up a few off the steeper banks. Somerset Dam has picked up a bit this week, Queen Street, Bay13 and the Pelican Point areas are all holding fish, with Tailspinners and Blades working well and working the edges with TN60 Jackalls in the timbered area at Kirkleigh has produced some good fish also. Boondooma Dam has seen the Stuart and Boyne arms producing plenty of Bass on spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies, good numbers of Bass taking live shrimp and trolled hard bodies around Bass Point at Bjelke Peterson, not a lot has changed at Moogerah and Maroon this week, with Moogerah producing good numbers on hard bodies, blades and live shrimp, sticking to the timbered area is the best option and Maroon produced some quality Bass again, targeting the weed edges with live shimp and suspending minnows early morning has given the best results.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has seen black and gold blades picking up some nice fish and for the bait anglers, live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies have been successful as well. Very similar at Glenlyon this week, with good numbers of Cod hitting bigger spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies, while frozen saltwater yabbies, spinnerbaits and hard bodies have worked well for Yellowbelly. Coolmunda has continued to fish well with bag limits being reached quite easily, darker coloured lures have worked well early morning and late afternoon, while brighter colours have been better through the middle of the day and remember, the bag limit is a possession limit, so if you keep 10 Yellowbelly per person one day, you’re breaking the rules if you keep another 10 per person the next day. Leslie Dam continues to fish well, with reports of good numbers being landed, Yellowbelly are very active at the moment with anglers landing fish on a variety of hard body lures and bait, while trolling all over the dam, the area around the "Black Boys" has been one of the more productive areas, there was also reports of a few Cod being landed, the best was 82cm and was taken on a TN60 Jackall. The same story as with the Bass at Boondooma, trolling hard bodies throughout both arms has produced decent numbers, while Bjelke Peterson has seen hard bodies and spinnerbaits working well around the timber and points. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondi has seen quite a few Cod caught and released, with spinnerbaits picking up most of those fish: and the Condamine has again produced good numbers of Yellowbelly and Cod, particularly from Pratten through to Warwick, with bait, hard bodies and spinnerbaits all working well.

GOLD COAST

Offshore fishing has seen Pearl Perch on the northern 50’s and the 24’s and 36’s have produced good numbers of Trag Jew and Cobia, while inshore has produced Kingies and Trevally in the Seaway, the Nerang River has again fished well for Mangrove Jack on hard bodies and live Mullet around the bridges and pylons and even though the numbers are down, the Pin is producing some quality Flathead near Kalinga Bank and Crusoe Island.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing has been a little quiet again this week, however those who have ventured out, have picked up Mackerel and Cobia on drifted baits. Inshore fishing has seen Jacks taking live Herring in Bells Creek, plenty of Squid on the top of the tide just out from Kings Beach and also off the Boardwalk, the Maroochy River has fished well for Jacks and Whiting as well as Flathead near the river mouth and the Noosa River has seen good numbers of Jack’s taken on live baits, around the rock walls and pylons, Whiting on surface poppers and the run in tide has seen Trevally and Queen fish hitting metal slugs just inside the river mouth.
