FISHING REPORT   – 23-10-2014

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has produced some quality Bass this week, mainly on live shrimp, with the Cressbrook Creek arm and straight out from the boat ramp being the best spots to target. Somerset Dam has produced good numbers of Bass again this week, The Spit, Bay13 and the Pelican Point area have been the best spots to target, Tailspinners, Soft Vibes and Blades are proving to be effective and live shrimp have again been productive for the bait anglers. Boondooma Dam has seen Tailspinners and Ice Jigs working well in the main basin, while casting spinnerbaits to the edges around Pelican Point has produced a few as well, plenty of smaller Bass taking tailspinners and blades at Bjelke Peterson, Moogerah has fished quite well again, working the timbered area towards the southern end of the dam has been the best, with TN60 Jackalls being the most effective, the fish were mainly located in the deeper water, however there were also some nice fish taken off the edges, using soft plastics and Maroon produced some quality Bass on surface, before the wind picked up and there were also decent numbers landed, working spinnerbaits and small crankbaits around the weed edges.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has again produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly this past week, using live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies or trolling spinnerbaits and hopping blades early morning/ late afternoon has provided the best results. Glenlyon has fished quite well again this week, with good numbers of Cod between 60 and 110cm hitting bigger spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies, while frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp have worked the best for the Yellowbelly. Darker coloured lures have worked well again at Coolmunda this week, working the drop-offs to the old creek beds and out from the wall have been the best spots. Leslie Dam has seen Yellowbelly taking trolled hard bodies, blades, soft vibes and frozen saltwater yabbies in about 20ft of water, while casting blades and lipless crankbaits around structure has been effective as well. At Boondooma, casting spinnerbaits to the edges at Pelican Point and around the timber in the Stuart arm has been effective and trolled hard bodies has also picked up a few, while Bjelke Peterson has been a bit patchy again, with low numbers taking bait and trolled hard bodies in 15-20ft of water. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondi has produced a few Yellowbelly on frozen saltwater yabbies and spinnerbaits, the Condamine has again produced good numbers of Yellowbelly, particularly around the Pratten area and the Brisbane River has again seen some quality Bass and Yellowbelly taken on a variety of hard body lures.

GOLD COAST

Offshore fishing has seen Yellowfin Tuna and Striped Marlin out wide, Pearl Perch and Kingies on the 50’s and the 24’s and 36’s have produced quality Mulloway as well as a few Snapper, while inshore has produced GT’s and School Jew near the pipeline, at the top of the tide, Flathead and Jew along the northern wall of the Seaway, the Coomera River is fishing well for Mangrove Jack on hard bodies and live Mullet and the Pin is producing some quality Flathead near Kalinga and Crusoe Island.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing has seen the Barwon Banks producing Red Throat Sweetlip and Moses Perch; a few Tuna have also been taken on the troll, while the closer reefs have fished well for Snapper and Mulloway. Inshore fishing has seen plenty of Whiting on the sand banks opposite the Power Boat Club, Bream and Trevally off the Boardwalk, Jacks in the Maroochy River on plastics and fresh baits and the Noosa River has seen good numbers of Jack’s holding tight to structure, with live baits working well on those fish and the river mouth has fished well for Whiting and Flathead.

 

 

FISHING REPORT   – 16-10-2014

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has been a little quieter this week; the upper reaches of the Cressbrook Creek arm, straight out from the boat ramp and the points in the main basin are still holding fish, live shrimp have worked the best, plastics and tailspinners have also landed a few and it’s worth casting suspending minnows to the edges, early morning and late afternoon. Somerset Dam has produced good numbers of Bass this week, Bay13 and the Pelican Point area have been the best spots to target, Tailspinners and Ice Jigs are proving to be effective and live shrimp have again been productive for the bait anglers. The Bass have been a bit harder to find at Boondooma this week, the Narrows, The Junction and the Stuart arm have been the best spots, while smaller Tailspinners and Ice Jigs have provided the best results, casting blades to the edges has produced a few smaller Bass at Bjelke Peterson and Moogerah has fished quite well again, working the timbered area towards the southern end of the dam has been the best, with blades, trolled hard bodies and tailspinners all working well.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly and a couple of Cod this past week, the point opposite the boat ramp and the right hand bank out from the dam wall buoy line have been popular spots, while frozen saltwater yabbies, trolled hard bodies and jigged ZX Ecogear blades have been the most effective. Glenlyon has fished quite well again this week, with good numbers of Cod up to 90cm hitting bigger spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies, while frozen saltwater yabbies, trolled hard bodies and spinnerbaits have again worked the best for the Yellowbelly. Plenty of fish taken on trolled darker coloured lures at Coolmunda this week, working the drop-offs to the old creek beds and out from the wall have been the hot spots, while using bait in the timber and on the drop-offs has picked up a few Cod between 60 and 90cm. Leslie Dam has seen Yellowbelly taking trolled hard bodies, live shrimp and crays and frozen saltwater yabbies in 30-40ft of water, while casting blades and lipless crankbaits around structure has been effective as well. At Boondooma, casting spinnerbaits to the edges and around the timber in the Stuart arm has been effective and using frozen saltwater yabbies around the timber has also picked up a few, while Bjelke Peterson has been a bit patchy again, with low numbers taking bait and trolled hard bodies in 15-20ft of water. As for the rivers, the Warwick reaches of the Condamine has produced some decent Cod and Yellowbelly, working green and black hard bodies around structure has been effective and the Brisbane River has seen some quality Bass and Yellowbelly taken on chatter baits.

GOLD COAST

Offshore fishing has seen a few Snapper and Pearl Perch on the northern 36’s and live bait has worked well for Trag Jew and Cobia on the 18’s and 24’s. Inshore fishing has been good for Mulloway in the Seaway and inside the Pin Bar; Crab Island, The Aldershots and Kalinga Bank have produced decent numbers of Flathead; plenty of Mangrove Jack in the Runaway Bay canals and the beaches have produced good quantities of Whiting and Dart.

SUNSHINE COAST

Chardons and North Reef have produced a few Pearl Perch and Queenfish, while out wider, Snapper, Dolphin Fish and Yellowfin Tuna have been prominent. Inshore fishing has seen plenty of Whiting hitting surface poppers in the passage, Flathead of the Boardwalk, a mixed bag of Trevally in the Mooloolah River, a few Dart off the beaches and the Noosa River has seen good numbers of Jack’s and Threadfin Salmon in the upper reaches, while worms and yabbies have been working well for Whiting.

FRASER ISLAND

Fishing on Fraser has slowed a bit this week, mainly due to the weather, however there are still some decent Tailor getting about.

 

FISHING REPORT   – 09-10-2014

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has again seen some quality fish getting about; the upper reaches of the Cressbrook Creek arm and the points in the main basin have been the hot spots, while spinnerbaits, Tailspinners, soft plastics and live shrimp have worked the best for these fish. Somerset Dam has produced reasonable numbers of Bass this week, there’s a lot of fish around, but you will still have to work for them. The Spit, Bay13 and the Pelican Point area have been the best spots to target, with 1/4oz blades, Tailspinners and Ice Jigs proving to be effective and live shrimp have again been productive for the bait anglers. Boondooma has again seen some decent Bass getting about throughout the dam, soft plastics, tailspinners, ice jigs and trolled hard bodies are working well, while the main basin, the junction and Pelican Point have again been the best spots to target, and both Maroon and Moogerah are fishing quite well at the moment, with good number of Bass landed at Maroon, casting soft plastics at the edges and weed pockets has given the best results, while at Moogerah, fishing in the timber towards the southern end of the dam has been the best, with gold blades and tailspinners working well.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam is still producing decent numbers of Yellowbelly, out from the boat ramp in 30ft of water, the point opposite the boat ramp and the right hand bank out from the dam wall buoy line have all been popular spots, while frozen saltwater yabbies, ice jigs and jigged blades have been the most effective. Glenlyon continues to improve as the weather warms up, with good numbers of Cod up to 80cm hitting bigger spinnerbaits and trolled hard bodies, while frozen saltwater yabbies, trolled hard bodies and spinnerbaits are working the best for the Yellowbelly, which are holding just out from the edges, in 15-20ft of water. Plenty of fish taken on worms and frozen saltwater yabbies again at Coolmunda this week, trolled hard bodies in darker colours have also produced good numbers, including a few Cod. Leslie Dam has seen Yellowbelly taking frozen shrimp and saltwater yabbies in 30-40ft of water, while trolling diving hard bodies and Strada Shudder’s has been effective as well. Boondooma continues to produce good numbers of fish through the main basin on jigged blades and trolled hard bodies, while Bjelke Peterson has been a bit patchy again, with reasonable numbers taking bait and trolled hard bodies in 15-20ft of water. As for the rivers, the Macintyre River has produced low numbers of fish on frozen saltwater yabbies and the local rivers and creeks have fished well for Yellowbelly and Cod, with a massive Yellowbelly, measuring 67cm, landed in the Warwick reaches of the Condamine River on a Mumbler.

GOLD COAST

Offshore fishing has seen a few Cobia on the Artificial Reef, north of the Seaway, and a few Snapper and Pearl Perch on the northern 50’s. Inshore fishing has been good for Flathead and Mulloway on plastics and live bait, in the Seaway, off Crab Island and around the Pin, the odd Kingy at the pipeline on the run out tide; good numbers of Whiting in the Nerang River and a few Sand Crabs have started to show up on the Southern end of the Broadwater.

SUNSHINE COAST

The inner reefs have produced Snapper, Sweetlip and Pearl Perch, the Barwon Banks and North Reef have produced Cobia, Yellowtail Kingfish, Snapper, Dolphin Fish and Wahoo while inshore fishing has seen plenty of Whiting around the Power Boat Club on Yabbies, Bream, Whiting and Flathead of the Boardwalk, Flathead and Jacks in the Mooloolah River, Whiting and Dart off most beaches and in the Noosa River, plenty of good size Whiting and Flathead throughout the system.

FRASER ISLAND

Fishing on Fraser has again been good over the last week, north of Happy Valley has been popular, with the average size of the Tailor getting up around the 55cm mark.

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has again seen some quality fish getting about; they’re not going off at the moment, but if you put in the time, you should pick up a few, the upper reaches of the Cressbrook Creek arm and the main point in the Bull Creek arm have been the best spots to target, while Tailspinners, soft plastics and live shrimp have worked the best. Somerset Dam has continued to produce good numbers of Bass this week, The Spit, Kirkleigh and the Pelican Point area have been the best spots to target, with slow rolled soft plastics, Tailspinners and Ice Jigs proving to be effective and live shrimp have again been productive for the bait anglers. Offshore fishing this past week has seen Pearl Perch, Snapper and Kingies on the northern 50’s, while the 18’s and 24’s have produced Cobia and Snapper. Inshore fishing has seen Kingies and Mulloway taking live bait in the Seaway, inside the Jumpinpin Bar has produced Tailor as well as Flathead on soft plastics, a few Jacks are starting to show up around the rock walls and the beaches have produced good numbers of Whiting and Dart.

SUNSHINE COAST

The inner reefs have produced Snapper and mixed bags of reef fish, the wider reefs have produced Cobia, Yellowtail Kingfish and bigger 5-6kg Snapper, while inshore fishing has seen plenty of Whiting in the Passage, Bream, Whiting and Flathead of the Boardwalk, a mixed variety of Trevally in the Mooloolah River, Tailor and Dart off most beaches and in the Noosa River, the upper reaches are producing good numbers of Mangrove Jack and Mulloway, while Trevally and bigger Flathead, have been taking live bait around the river mouth, on the incoming tide.

FRASER ISLAND

Anglers have landed decent numbers of Tailor this past week, on most of the exposed beaches.

Live shrimp, Tailspinners, Mask Vibes and silent TN60 Jackalls have all been effective at Cressbrook Dam, with the upper reaches of the Cressbrook Creek arm, the main point in the Bull Creek arm and out from the camp ground point being good spots to target. Somerset Dam has continued to produce good numbers of Bass this week, The Spit, Kirkleigh and the Pelican Point area have been the best spots to target, with slow rolled soft plastics, Tailspinners and Ice Jigs proving to be effective and live shrimp have again been productive for the bait anglers. Boondooma has again seen some decent Bass getting about throughout the dam, mask vibes, tailspinners and trolled hard bodies are working well, while the main basin, the junction and Pelican Point have been the best spots to target and Maroon Dam has again seen some quality Bass landed over the past week, targeting the weed edges with soft plastics, crank baits and live shrimp has given the best results.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

As for the rivers, the Macintyre River has produced good numbers of fish on spinnerbaits, hard bodies and bait, Yellowbelly have been active in the Dumeresq River, upstream of Texas and the Condamine River continues to fish well for Yellowbelly and Cod, with most of the weirs and popular holes, throughout the system again proving to be quite productive.

Offshore fishing this past week has seen Yellowfin Tuna and Snapper on the 18’s and 24’s, while inshore fishing has seen Bream and Jewies in the Seaway, inside the Jumpinpin Bar has produced good size Jewies as well and Kalinga Bank has seen plenty of Tailor and Flathead getting about.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing has seen Snapper, Pearl Perch and Yellow Tail Kingfish getting about 9 Mile, 12 Mile and Chardons Reefs and Murphys Reef has produced Sweetlip and Tusk Fish, while inshore fishing has seen plenty of Whiting in the lower parts of the Maroochy River, Bream and School Jew at the mouth of Bells Creek, Flathead throughout the passage and in the Noosa River, the upper reaches are producing good numbers of Mangrove Jack, while Trevally and Flathead, have been taking live bait around the river mouth, on the incoming tide.

FRASER ISLAND

Due to the windy conditions over the past week, the fishing has been a bit patchy, with only low numbers reported.

FISHING REPORT   – 18-09-2014

BASS

Somerset Dam has produced good numbers of Bass this week, with some quality fish getting about, The Spit, Kirkleigh and the Pelican Point area have been the best spots to target, slow rolled soft plastics worked tight to the bottom, has been good, while Tailspinners and Ice Jigs have been effective as well and live shrimp are the go, for the bait anglers. A few smaller fish near the Eagles Nest at Cressbrook, it’s also worth a look on the flats, out from the boat ramp and in the Cressbrook Creek arm of the dam. Boondooma has again seen some decent Bass getting about throughout the dam, slow rolled vibes or ice jigging around Pelican Point has seen the best results with 50cm plus fish not uncommon. Bjelke Peterson is still fishing well; Bass Point has been a hot spot, casting Jackalls and smaller spinnerbaits to the edges early morning and then using plastics and blades a bit deeper, later in the day, has been good as well. Moogerah Dam has seen some schooled Bass located in the main basin; these fish are taking a variety of lures, including soft plastics, blades and ice jigs and Maroon Dam has again seen some quality Bass up to 48cm landed over the past week, targeting the weed edges with soft plastics and live shrimp has given the best results.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam is still producing decent numbers of Yellowbelly, working the weed edges early morning and late afternoon has been good, trolling hard bodies and using bait in the deeper parts has been effective as well. Glenlyon has fished well this week, with plenty of Cod from 70cm and upwards, as well as heaps of Yellowbelly being caught, Jackall Doozers and spinnerbaits are working well for the Cod, while live shrimp and blades are working the best on the Yellowbelly. Lures have worked well at Coolmunda this week; working them close to the bottom has been successful, while bait has worked well around the timber, a few Cod have started to show up as well, which have provided a bit of fun for the anglers. Numbers at Leslie Dam are on the increase, with lure anglers having better success than previous weeks, there have been quite a few reports of bag limits being filled in an afternoon; hopping Mask Vibes provided the best results, while trolling hard bodies along Cod Alley produced some nice fish. Bait anglers also had some success up near the Black Boys on shrimp. Connolly Dam also managed to produce some nice fish; bait anglers had the most success, with good numbers of Yellowbelly landed on worms in the more sheltered areas, both Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson dams have produced good numbers of fish, mainly around the timbered parts, with live shrimp and frozen salt water yabbies proving to be popular in these dams. As for the rivers, the Balonne at St.George is fishing well for Yellowbelly on live bait, with a few fish starting to take spinnerbaits and the Condamine River continues to fish well for Yellowbelly and Cod, with most of the weirs and popular holes, throughout the system again proving to be quite productive.

GOLD COAST

Offshore fishing this past week has again seen Cobia taking live bait on the closer artificial reefs and out wider; the northern 36’s has been firing for some big Kingies and Amberjack. Plenty of Jewies off the Seaway wall, on live bait, good numbers of Flathead on soft plastics and trolled lures throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin, quality Bream around the bridges and pontoons throughout the Nerang River and good numbers of Tailor around Crusoe Island.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing has again seen the outer reefs fishing well for Snapper, Pearl Perch, Yellow Tail Kingfish and Amberjack, while inshore fishing has seen plenty of Whiting around the Power Boat Club, big Bream and Flathead on soft plastics, off Military Jetty and around the mouth of the Maroochy River, Trevelly and Mangrove Jack at night, under the bridges, in the Pelican Waters canals and in the Noosa River, Trevally are hitting surface poppers on the flats, while  Queenfish, Jewies and Flathead, have been taking live bait around the river mouth.

FRASER ISLAND

Much the same as last week at Fraser, with good numbers of Tailor, Whiting and Dart getting about the exposed beaches, the numbers of good quality Tailor are on the increase.

FISHING REPORT   – 11-09-2014

CHANGE TO OPENING HOURS FOR TOOWOOMBA DAMS

I forgot to mention this last week, so for those of you who don’t already know, our local Toowoomba dams have a change to their opening hours from 1^st September to 30^th April. The hours are, 7am to 8pm at Cooby and 6am to 8pm at Cressbrook, water based activities are not permitted on the dams outside of these times. For more information regarding the dams and all other recreational facilities go to the TRC website, which is; www.toowoombarc.qld.gov.au

BASS

Bass fishing has continued to improve this week, with Cressbrook Dam again producing some fish out from the boat ramp, there’s still some decent schools showing up from there through to the Eagles Nest, live shrimp, soft plastics, vibes and tailspinners have worked the best. The fish are starting to show up in a few more areas at Somerset as well, with Pelican Point through to Kirkleigh being the best area of the dam to target, soft plastics, tailspinners and soft vibes have been the pick of the lures. Boondooma has again seen good numbers of Bass taken on ice jigs, soft vibes and tailspinners around Pelican Point and The Junction, trolled hard bodies have also picked up a few through the narrows, trolling deep diving lures in the old creek beds has been effective at Bjelke Peterson and Maroon Dam has seen some quality Bass up to 48cm landed over the past week, targeting the weed edges with soft plastics, fly and live shrimp has given the best results.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD

Cooby Dam has produced decent numbers of Yellowbelly, the fish seem to be hanging just out from the weed edges and trolling shallow diving hard bodies or casting spinnerbaits in tight to the weed has been effective, while using bait in the deeper parts has produced a few fish as well. Glenlyon is a bit quiet at the moment, but there have been a few Yellowbelly taken on live shrimp, frozen saltwater yabbies and hard bodies in about 12-15ft of water, Cod have proven to be little bit harder to catch, although this should improve over the coming weeks, providing the weather stays kind to us. Bait has again been a good option at Coolmunda , with some nice Yellowbelly and a couple of Cod taken through the old creek bed, but as the water temperature rises, lures will start to become more effective. Leslie Dam saw a slight increase in activity over the past week, with a few Yellowbelly and Silver perch landed on trolled hard body lures, in approximately 10 foot of water, in front of the Washpool, there have also been some nice Yellowbelly caught, working the banks with Jackals, while opposite the dam wall in about 30 foot of water, has been a pretty good spot for the bait anglers. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondiwindi has produced good sized Yellowbelly on bait and hard bodies, the Balonne at St.George is fishing well for Yellowbelly on brighter coloured lures, the Dumeresq has picked up a bit, with Yellowbelly biting well on bait, and the Condamine River continues to fish well for Yellowbelly and Cod, with most of the weirs and popular holes, throughout the system proving to be quite productive.

Offshore fishing has been a bit quiet, but the36’s and 50’s have produced some quality Pearl Perch, Kingies and Amberjack, while the close artificial reefs have been good for Snapper. Inshore fishing has seen Jew, Tailor and Trevally in the Seaway on the run in tide, good numbers of Flathead on soft plastics and trolled lures throughout the Broadwater and also at the Pin, quality Whiting at the Council Chambers in the Nerang River, Tailor off the beaches and a few Sand Crabs have started to show up in the southern end of the Broadwater.

SUNSHINE COAST

Offshore fishing has again been pretty quiet, with only low numbers of Snapper and Parrot Fish taken on 8 and 12 Mile reefs and Caloundra wide has produced Snapper and Kingfish. Inshore fishing has seen plenty of big Whiting around the Power Boat Club, quality Flathead on soft plastics at the bar entrance, small Trevally in the Pelican Waters canals, some decent Bass in the upper reaches of the Mooloolah River and in the Noosa River, Tailor are hitting surface poppers in Woods Bay, big Flathead and Whiting throughout, some nice Jewies to 80cm in the deeper holes and the upper reaches have seen some nice Mangrove Jack getting about.

FRASER ISLAND

Good numbers of Tailor, Whiting and Dart getting about the exposed beaches, with some really good quality Tailor starting to show up.
