Fishing Report 24-01-2013


FISHING REPORT   – 24-01-2013


 

BASS

Cressbrook Dam has again produced a few Bass this past week, they’re still not out in big numbers, trolling LittleMax blades along the buoy line and slow rolling plastics off the drop-offs at the Cressbrook Creek end of the dam, has produced the most fish, there has also been the odd one caught off Deer Island on bait.  Boondooma Dam has had a slight change over the past week, with the Bass moving into deeper water, due to the hotter water temperature. The fish have tended to take trolled deep diving lures and heavier Spinnerbaits, rather than cast lures, Pelican Point and the Junction have been the pick of the spots. Bjelke Petersen dam again produced large numbers of smaller Bass, with the odd bigger in amongst them, casting small blades and spinnerbaits around the points and timbered edges throughout the dam has worked best, live shrimp have been good as well, and at Somerset Dam, the timber at Kirkleigh is producing a few Bass in amongst heaps of Yellowbelly, while Bay 13 and Queen Street have again seen some quality Bass landed on blades, soft plastics and mask vibes. Cressbrook, Boondooma, Bjelke Peterson and Somerset have again produced good numbers of Redclaw.

 

YELLOWBELLY AND COD.

Cooby Dam is still producing a few fish on bait off the banks, and also on trolled lures and Spinnerbaits, working the drop-offs and weed edges throughout the dam, at Boondooma, using live shrimp and casting spinnerbaits are working well at the start of the timber in the Boyne and Stuart arms, while trolling hard bodies at the junction and balancing rock has produced some decent fish as well. Good quality Yellowbelly have been out in numbers at Bjelke Peterson, casting and trolling spinnerbaits around the timber has worked well, while blades and ice jigs have also produced decent fish, there’s also been some cracking Silver Perch, up to 50cm taking trolled lures towards the wall end of the dam. Still good numbers of quality Yellowbelly have been taken on live shrimp and trolled and cast lures at Glenlyon this week, afternoons have produced the most fish and some nice Cod up to 112cm have been hitting hard bodies and spinnerbaits. Coolmunda continues to produce good numbers of Yellowbelly, trolling the old creek beds and along the wall has worked well, live shrimp, crays and frozen saltwater yabbies have both been successful for the bait anglers. A carbon copy of last week at Leslie Dam, Yellowbelly have again been out in good numbers, they have been taken on frozen saltwater yabbies, live shrimp, trolled lures and spinnerbaits, and there is still plenty of Jew being landed using bait. And for the rivers, the Balonne at St.George continues to fish well for Yellowbelly, even though the water level has dropped, dark coloured spinnerbaits have been producing the most fish, the water is starting to settle and the fishing is improving in the Macintyre River at Goondiwindi this week, anglers have been picking up a few Yellowbelly on bait, while some bigger Cod have been landed, using lures and bait.

 

GOLD COAST AND TWEED

 

Spotty Mackerel everywhere off the coast at the moment, with 20-40 gram Arma metal lures working the best and around the 50m line, trolled skirted lures have produced good catches of smaller Black Marlin, Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna and Dolphin Fish, while inshore, the Tweed River has seen good numbers of Flathead and Whiting behind the golf club, Jacks around the bridges and Trevelly are still active at the river entrance, while up around Southport, there’s a few Whiting and Dart off the beaches, plenty of Jack’s in the Coomera River and around Sanctuary Cove, the Seaway has again produced Mulloway on soft plastics along the north wall, on the run in tide and there is plenty of Muddies at the mouth of the Coomera River.

 

SUNSHINE COAST

 

Offshore fishing has seen plenty of Yellowfin Tuna and Spotty Mackerel taken on chrome lures at 3 and 5 Mile Reefs and if you venture out a bit wider, there are some quality Pearl Perch getting about, while inshore fishing has produced Whiting at the bar entrance at Caloundra, little Queenies, on surface poppers at the Power Boat Club, Trevelly in the Pelican Waters canals, Flathead in the passage and the Maroochy River, small Dart off the beaches, a few Jack’s in the upper reaches of the Noosa River and the boardwalk at Caloundra has produced some decent Bream on Hardy Heads and Whitebait.

Fishing Report 17-01-2013


FISHING REPORT   – 17-01-2013


 

BASS

Bjelke Petersen dam again produced large numbers of smaller Bass, with the odd bigger in amongst them, casting small blades and spinnerbaits around the points and timbered edges throughout the dam has worked best, live shrimp have been good as well, and at Somerset Dam, the timber at Kirkleigh is producing a few Bass in amongst heaps of Yellowbelly, while Bay 13 and Queen Street have again seen some quality Bass landed on blades, soft plastics and mask vibes. Cressbrook, Boondooma, Bjelke Peterson and Somerset are all producing good numbers of Redclaw.

The Yellowbelly are schooling up in Bjelke Peterson, some quality fish have been taken on spinnerbaits and live worms. Still good numbers of quality Yellowbelly have been taken on live shrimp and trolled and cast lures at Glenlyon this week, afternoons have produced the most fish and some nice Cod up to 130cm have been hitting hard bodies and spinnerbaits. Coolmunda continues to produce good numbers of Yellowbelly, trolling the old creek beds and along the wall has worked well, live shrimp, crays and frozen saltwater yabbies have both been successful for the bait anglers. At Leslie Dam, Yellowbelly have again been out in good numbers, they have been taken on frozen saltwater yabbies, live shrimp, trolled lures and spinnerbaits, and there is still plenty of Jew being landed using bait. And for the rivers, the Balonne at St.George continues to fish well for Yellowbelly, dark coloured spinnerbaits have been producing the most fish, bait has been the most productive in the Macintyre River at Goondiwindi, with good numbers of Cod and Yellowbelly taking live crays and frozen saltwater yabbies, trolled hard bodies and spinnerbaits have produced a few fish as well, and the Dumeresq River up and downstream at Texas has fished reasonably well for Yellowbelly and Cod using lures and bait, there’s still quite a few Carp downstream of the township.

Offshore fishing has been a bit patchy this past week, due to rough seas, but there have still been a few smaller Black Marlin about and also the odd Mackerel off Palm Beach and around the Gravel Patch, while inshore, the Tweed River has seen good numbers of Flathead and Whiting in the upper reaches, Jacks and Trevelly are still active at the river entrance and around structure, while up around Southport, Flathead and Whiting have again been plentiful, just north of  Crab Island, plenty of Jack’s around Sovereign Island and the Runaway Bay canals, and the Seaway has produced Mulloway on soft plastics along the north wall, as well as a few Trevelly and Yellowtail Kingfish, the run in tide has been the best time.

 

SUNSHINE COAST

 

Offshore fishing has seen a good mix of Mack Tuna, Spotty Mackerel and Black Marlin getting about, while inshore fishing has produced heaps of good size Flathead in the Noosa River and around the bar entrance at Caloundra, Whiting early morning along Golden Beach, some nice Mangrove Jack and Trevelly in the Pelican Waters canals, Noosa River and Bells Creek and the boardwalk at Caloundra has produced some decent Bream.

Fishing Report 10-01-2013


FISHING REPORT   – 10-01-2013


 

 

 

BASS

 

Cressbrook Dam has produced a few Bass this past week, they’re not out in big numbers, but the quality is certainly there, if you happen to hook a couple, slow rolling plastics off the drop-offs at the Cressbrook Creek end of the dam has been the most successful.  Boondooma Dam hasn’t changed much over the past week, with quality Bass taken off the edges, Blades and Jackalls have again been the most effective, spinnerbaits and bait are still working in the Stuart and Boyne arms, while trolling hard bodies around the junction has again produced some fish as well. Bjelke Petersen dam again produced large numbers of smaller Bass, with the odd bigger in amongst them, casting small blades and spinnerbaits around the points and timbered edges throughout the dam has worked best, live shrimp have been good as well, and at Somerset Dam, the timber at Kirkleigh is producing a few Bass in amongst heaps of Yellowbelly, while Bay 13 and Queen Street have seen some quality Bass landed on blades soft plastics and mask vibes.

Cooby Dam is still producing a few fish on bait off the banks, and also on trolled lures and Spinnerbaits, working the drop-offs and weed edges throughout the dam, at Boondooma, using live shrimp and casting spinnerbaits are working well at the start of the timber in the Boyne and Stuart arms, while trolling hard bodies at the junction and balancing rock has produced some decent fish as well. Bjelke Peterson is still producing quality Yellowbelly, trolling hard bodies in the deeper water has worked well, while casting spinnerbaits, using live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies around the timber has also seen some decent fish caught. Big numbers of quality Yellowbelly have been taking trolled and cast lures at Glenlyon this week, afternoons have produced the most fish and the Cod are starting to become a bit more active, after being a bit quiet over Christmas. Coolmunda continues to produce good numbers of Yellowbelly, with a few smaller Cod in amongst them, trolling the old creek beds and along the wall has worked well, live shrimp, crays and frozen saltwater yabbies have both been successful for the bait anglers. At Leslie Dam, Yellowbelly have again been out in good numbers, they have been taken on frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp, trolling deep diving lures has worked as well, there has also been quite a few smaller Cod and stacks of Silver Perch and Jew landed using bait. And for the rivers, even though it has dirtied up a bit, the Balonne at St.George continues to fish well for Yellowbelly and Cod, casting spinnerbaits around snags, as well as trolling hard body lures has produced good numbers of fish, bait has been the most productive in the Macintyre River at Goondiwindi, with plenty of Cod and Yellowbelly taking live crays and frozen saltwater yabbies, trolled hard bodies and spinnerbaits have produced a few fish as well, and the Dumeresq River up and downstream at Texas has fished reasonably well for Yellowbelly and Cod using lures and bait, there’s still quite a few Carp downstream of the township.

Offshore fishing this week, has again seen good numbers of smaller Black Marlin around the 30 metre line out the front of the Pin, Yellowfin Tuna and Mackerel are hanging about 9 Mile Reef, and out wider has produced some decent Wahoo and Dolphin Fish, while inshore, the Tweed River has seen good numbers of Flathead near the golf course and Whiting at the anchorage, Jacks and Trevelly are still active at the river entrance and around structure, while up around Southport, Flathead and Whiting have been plentiful, just north of  Crab Island, plenty of Jack’s around Sovereign Island and the Runaway Bay canals, and the Seaway has produced Mulloway on soft plastics along the north wall, as well as a few Trevelly and Yellowtail Kingfish, the run in tide has been the best time.

 

SUNSHINE COAST

 

Offshore fishing has seen the inner reefs producing a mix of smaller reef fish, while the wider reefs are producing a few Spotty Mackerel and Striped Tuna, while inshore fishing has produced heaps of good size Flathead in the Noosa River and around the bar entrance at Caloundra, Whiting early morning, along Golden Beach, some nice Mangrove Jack also in the Noosa River and Bells Creek, Trevelly at Military Jetty and a few Threadfin Salmon up to 70cm have shown up in the passage at Caloundra.

Fishing Report 03-01-2013


FISHING REPORT   – 03-01-2013


 

 

Firstly, from all the team at Mullet Gut Marine, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, I hope it is filled with many successful fishing trips, maybe a PB or two, or even a new species crossed off the bucket list.

 

BASS

 

Cressbrook Dam has again produced some decent fish this week, rolling blades through suspended fish in the deeper water has been effective, while trolling hard bodies through the same areas has been successful as well, darker colours seem to be popular at the moment. Boondooma Dam has seen some quality Bass taken off the edges, with Blades and Jackalls proving to be the most effective, spinnerbaits and bait are still working in the Stuart and Boyne arms, while trolling hard bodies around the junction has again produced some fish as well. Bjelke Petersen dam again produced large numbers of smaller Bass, with the odd bigger in amongst them, casting small blades and spinnerbaits around the points and timbered edges throughout the dam has worked best, live shrimp have good as well, and at Somerset Dam, most areas from Pelican Point through to the timber at Kirkleigh are holding fish, there have been some big numbers caught over the past week, soft plastics and blades have worked well on the suspended fish, while hopping soft vibes along the bottom has produced the bigger fish.

Cooby Dam is still producing a few fish on bait off the banks, and also on trolled lures, working the drop-offs throughout the dam, at Boondooma, live shrimp are working well around the timber, in the Boyne and Stuart arms and trolling hard bodies in 30-40ft of water is producing fish as well. Bjelke Peterson has seen some quality Yellowbelly taken, trolling hard bodies in the deeper water has worked well, while casting spinnerbaits around the timber has also seen some decent fish caught. Good quality Yellowbelly are still taking darker coloured lures at Glenlyon this week, there have also been a few smaller Cod about, with bait and lures working on these fish. Coolmunda is producing good numbers of Yellowbelly, with a few smaller Cod in amongst them, trolling the old creek beds and along the wall has worked well, live crays and frozen saltwater yabbies have both been successful for the bait anglers. At Leslie Dam, Yellowbelly have again been out in good numbers, they have been taken on frozen saltwater yabbies and live shrimp, trolling deep diving lures has worked as well, there has also been quite a few smaller Cod and stacks of Silver Perch and Jew landed using bait. As far as the rivers go, the Balonne at St.George and Surat continues to fish well for Yellowbelly and Cod, casting spinnerbaits around snags, as well as trolling hard body lures has produced the most fish, the Macintyre River at Goondiwindi has fished well this past week with good reports of Yellowbelly taking spinnerbaits and bait, there has been a few Cod about as well and the Dumeresq River at Texas has fished reasonably well for Yellowbelly and smaller Cod using lures and bait, there’s still quite a few Carp about as well.

Offshore fishing this week, has again seen good numbers of smaller Black Marlin taking trolled lures in 25-30 metres of water, Yellowfin Tuna and Mackerel are hanging about 9 Mile Reef, and the 50 Fathoms have seen good numbers of Wahoo, Cobia and Blue Marlin, while inshore, the Tweed River has seen good numbers of Flathead and Whiting throughout, Jacks are still active around structure, while up around Southport, Flathead have been taking hard body lures around Crab Island, plenty of Jack’s around Sovereign Island and the Runaway Bay canals, Whiting at the council chambers and in most of the creeks, Sand Crabs in the southern parts of the Broadwater and the Seaway has produced Mulloway and Trevelly along the north wall, on the run in tide.

Offshore fishing has seen the inner reefs producing a mix of smaller reef fish, while the wider reefs are producing a few Spotty Mackerel, Cobia, Wahoo and Yellowtail Kingfish, while inshore fishing is much the same as last week, with good size Flathead landed off the Boardwalk at Caloundra, Whiting at the Power Boat Club and throughout the Maroochy and Noosa Rivers, some nice Mangrove Jack and Barramundi also in the Noosa River, Jack’s up to 50cm have also been taken around Bells Creek, and the Pelican Waters canals have been alive with smaller Trevelly and Queenies.
