Fishing Report 28-12-2012

FISHING REPORT   – 27-12-2012

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY PERIOD HAS BEEN BUSY

There has been plenty of activity on our waterways this Christmas, and with the weather over the next week not looking to bad, apart from a few storms getting about, our dams and waterways are going to remain fairly busy. I thought I would take this opportunity to go over a few boating safety rules. If you are going boating over the break, make sure your PFD’s (Personal Flotation Device) are in good condition and up to the latest Australian Standards, you must have a PFD for all persons in the boat and all children under the age of 12 must wear a PFD at all times, while the boat is underway. A boat is classed as being underway, most of the time, apart from when it is anchored or nosed onto a bank, in January this year a new rule was introduced regarding signage for PFD’s, if your PFD’s are not visible, you need to have a “LIFE JACKET” label fixed near to where your PFD’s are stowed. All persons on your boat must know where the PFD’s are stowed, and they must also know how to put the PFD on, as the skipper of the boat, this is your responsibility to ensure all passengers know these things.  Boat ramp rage is another issue that arises at these busy times of year. There are a few things we can do to avoid these situations, make sure you have your boat ready for launching before moving onto the ramp, offer to help, if someone is launching on their own, or even having difficulty backing the trailer, not everyone can back a trailer as good as we all like to think we can. There will be a lot of boats, kayaks, canoes and people on the water, so make sure you stay alert, if everyone does these few simple things, we should all have a safe and happy Christmas period. With the weather looking not too bad and a full moon tomorrow night, the fishing should be good, so good luck to everyone heading out for a fish these holidays and make sure you send your photos to mullet_gut@bigpond.com or drop them into the shop, you never know, your photo could end up in the paper.
